You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Do you know what's really going to piss me off???

Being in work (primary) and having the usual bollocks, staff meetings (on Teams, obv), email directives, pressure for data & stats, SATS bollocks (parent complaints🙄), etc, etc. as if everything is normal.

With no acknowledgement that we're at risk every. Bloody.day. Just business as usual

I feel just the same. I'll do well not to be sacked this term. I'm simply not asking MIL, who's 70, asthmatic and cares for FIL who's all over the place with a combination of dementia and diabetes, to pick the DCs up from school. Not doing it.

I've just been sent this, and in the absence of any word on mitigations to make schools safer, I've signed it.

How the fuck does a clinically vulnerable teacher minimise their contacts Angry

SaltyAndFresh · 31/10/2020 19:30

Hang on, I'll put that right

Due to local restrictions I haven't met another person outside my immediate family since 17th September.

BelleSausage · 31/10/2020 19:32

I am so, so, so angry.

And utterly fucked. Am now alone with DD and trying to teach ‘normal school’ while sorting everything out myself. I have no idea if my childcare arrangements are covered by exemptions.

I don’t think I can manage the next 4 weeks.

The same way I minimise mine in a department of 150 people designed for half that number. Which is not much, I'd imagine Angry. Except without masks.

God, he's tried to start explaining the R number. 'It's above 1, but it's not that much above 1'.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/10/2020 19:33

I really don’t want to catch it. However I already feel that I may need time off for stress (Not in a piss take way - just to get my blood pressure down !)

Apparently it will be safe as we have a shed load of fancy quick tests coming our way, delivered by the army.

I'll fucking believe it when I fucking see it.

I was told that lie by my neu rep in July. 3 months on and fuck all there.

Saucery · 31/10/2020 19:33

DH put it on, so I ended up watching it.
Pffft. Don’t really know what to say that hasn’t been said already.
They are hoping to have enough hospital beds to cope with the spread in schools, basically.
And starting it on Bonfire Night? Don’t they have advisers on social issues, are they listening to them if they do?
It sounds like the start of the fucking Purge out there right now as it is Sad
Even Dumb And Dumber on the other side isn’t making me laugh tonight.

MrsDanvers123 · 31/10/2020 19:34

Why are none of the journalists referring to the transmissions data for schools? I feel so angry and disenfranchised.

Augustbreeze · 31/10/2020 19:34

He didn't even clearly say WFH if you can, did he?

I do think we need to wait to see the published guidance though, it usually clarifies a few things.

A minor point but important in our house:
Anyone have any thoughts on peri instrumental teaching at secondary? Our school is about to resume this week, which I was slightly surprised at anyway. Do you think decisions like that might be reversed now or not? I think they should but doubt they will be.

monkeytennis97 · 31/10/2020 19:34

It didn't seem as 'serious' in tone as the March one.... maybe it will be added to?

Saucery · 31/10/2020 19:34

Yes, the tests! Parachuted in by the Armed Forces. Ffs. They really do think we’re stupid, don’t they.

FrippEnos · 31/10/2020 19:35

@theluckiest

yup, with a little bit of 'we are doing stuff honest' thrown in for good measure.

Piggywaspushed · 31/10/2020 19:35

You won't be surprised to hear that most peri lessons were already happening at my school, including singing...

motherrunner · 31/10/2020 19:36

Wish I could be furloughed at 80%

motherrunner · 31/10/2020 19:37

I don’t care about Christmas - I want to make it to Christmas healthy.

starrynight19 · 31/10/2020 19:39

Salty I think you need to speak to your head about your childcare issues. Surely you should be allowed to protect your vulnerable as Boris stated ?

I don’t know what to say after that announcement , not surprised but don’t think “thanks” quite cuts it Boris.

I feel so pissed off right now.

Usually I would have spent half of this half term working. This time, I think my school is fucking lucky if I just turn up and go into the classroom. If I do that, they are getting a lot more from me than I think I should be giving them right now, and they can sack me if they don't think it's enough.

Rock bottom morale here.

motherrunner · 31/10/2020 19:44

DH is actually crying. I think it’s hit him with two teacher parents that our children are at real risk of losing one of us - maybe not our lives, but who they know is as healthy parents.

Fuck Boris.
