You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Put my name on it and it’ll be egged by the end of the first day, MrsHamlet

The cookery section can be filled with Joe Wicks Lean in 15.

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2020 20:34

Oh no motherrunner that totally sucks. Why were you within a metre?

Hope you didn’t have any plans.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/10/2020 20:38

Oh no mother what a pain in the arse. How long do you need to isolate for now?

MrsHamlet · 27/10/2020 20:40

Oh no mother - that's a blow.
MrsAD picture books are still allowed. We teach Shaun Tan's The Arrival in year 7 and I love it.

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:40

Stuck in anyway as DS is isolating due to being in contact with a positive.

I was giving out exam papers.

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:40

Isolating until the 8th.

SmileEachDay · 27/10/2020 20:40

mother 😖

That’s rubbish.

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2020 20:42

Well, it's decent evidence for your thread, I guess...

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2020 20:42

I was giving out exam papers.

And they counted that?!

MrsHamlet · 27/10/2020 20:45

Wow! I'm surprised they've counted that - but actually, good on that head for taking it seriously. Sucks that it's the holidays though.

Saucery · 27/10/2020 20:45

Wow, motherrunner that is shit. Giving out exam papers - that’s max 5 seconds at each table, surely?

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2020 20:46

Hang on, how can you be isolating till the 8th, that’s more than 14 days after the end of term?

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2020 20:46

PHE England were very clear to us that it was any time at all within one metre. Which surprised SLT who told a boy he didn't need to SI because of a brief hug.

Of another student, not a teacher!!

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:48

I was asked whether I was within 1m for a minute. I wouldn’t have been a minute with her but most likely been around her for a minute. The girl had flagged me as a teacher who she had close contact with.

I was confused on dates too. Maybe I misheard.

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:49

But then again my son was in contact with his positive last Tuesday and has been told to isolate to the 5th.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/10/2020 20:51

So should I be keeping track of who hands things out in each lesson as well as a seating plan? I ask the kids to do it because they're all part of the same "bubble", and I stay in my box at the front of the room, but how would they know who needs to isolate because they've handed stuff out. I haven't been keeping track of that!!!

noblegiraffe · 27/10/2020 20:55

Me either MsAwesome, we were told we could get the kids to hand stuff out because they’re in the same bubble but that was back when the assumption was whole bubbles would isolate.

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/10/2020 20:55

And they won't know about the boy who sells me eggs every week either. And he certainly won't flag me up as a contact, because he doesn't even know what day it is let alone which teacher he spoke to a few days ago. He's in my class though, so maybe I'll be notified and asked if I've been in close contact.

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:57

Usually I’ve been passing resources to 1 student and then they distribute them. This was a situation where the class had been completing an exam paper over a number of lessons so I was handing them out personally due to confidentiality.

motherrunner · 27/10/2020 20:59

So messed up. I’m more anxious at the face I’ll be in trouble for breaking the 2m rule rather than I could be at risk.

Saucery · 27/10/2020 21:05

But what choice do we have, motherrunner? It just shows the impossibility of the guidance in schools.

Hercwasonaroll · 27/10/2020 21:05

Oh no mother. We definitely aren't being isolated in very similar circumstances. (Personal experience and lots of colleagues).

The 1m rule is dwindling fast in our place.

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2020 21:06

Why are there some threads I can get on to tonight and not others?

Hercwasonaroll · 27/10/2020 21:07

I the isolating until the 8th because it is from the date of the positive test and not when you last saw them? Although if so, you wouldn't be a concern if the test was today surely? All seems very confusing.

monkeytennis97 · 27/10/2020 21:11

Sorry to hear that @motherrunner Sad That's so crap. Just shows how impossible it is to stick to the guidanceSad

I've just seen in the Guardian online an article about a girl and family who felt relieved to be doing virtual learning as it gave her a break from school based peer pressure...
