You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

TheHoneyBadger I agree re the commaraderie (I can't spell for toffee sorry!).

I'm 11 years in and it's so different now. Mainly because people are so so busy. And the better you are, the busier you get.

Someone wrote a beautiful TES article about 'Barry' and it resonated. Staffrooms are missing their Barry's.

CountDuckulasKetchup · 23/10/2020 18:45

Happy half term everyone. My only plans are to sleep. I've never seen so many staff in tears as I have this week, everyone is broken. Doing my bit for the economy with a chippy tea tonight.

eitak22 · 23/10/2020 18:51

We normally have McDonalds lunch on last day of term but encouraged not to leave site and go to shops in lunchtime so had to not do that this time.

Think lunch at the pub sounds like a great morale boost. I've enjoyed a takeaway and am looking forward to a nice bath later.

Saucery · 23/10/2020 18:53

Slainte! Wine

I hope everyone has a good rest this half term and if you are self isolating or poorly then I hope it goes well for you Flowers

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/10/2020 18:55

Forgot the Gin Gin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/10/2020 18:57

Excellent thread title.

We made it to half term with no cases (well, no cases that triggered popping a bubble due to their timing).

We're Wales. So nowhere to go. Nothing to do. Can't leave the county and have to stay at home as much as possible. They've even told the supermarkets etc not to sell non-essential items.

AND DD is self isolating til Wednesday due to 2 cases in her secondary school.

So it's going to be lots of hunkering down, reading books, watching films and generally just chilling. A group of us from school had been booked to go to Portugal together so it's a bit of a down day for us as that can't happen.

Cracklefraggle · 23/10/2020 19:19

Happy half term all. I plan to sleep in until Wednesday Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/10/2020 19:27

Sounds like a plan except I have my smear test on Monday .

ohthegoats · 23/10/2020 19:35

I made it to the end of term with no cases in my school. Thank fuck. Cornwall on Wednesday. Vital life admin for next few days. Don't think people saying we should have lockdowns over school holidays realise how much life admin only happens in the holidays for teachers.

Vodka and a curry to celebrate.

Well done everyone!! Sorry for those isolating, what a fucker.

MrsHamlet · 23/10/2020 19:45

I'm in the real pub!!!!

ohthegoats · 23/10/2020 19:46

We go to the pub as a collective- most Friday night's a crowd goes.

We have two Barrys, which is good going for a primary school.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/10/2020 19:51

Pack wet weather stuff if you are making your way down here, oh.

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2020 19:52

Aloha!

I can't drink these days. Tragic.

I'll be designated driver.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/10/2020 19:53

@MrsHamlet

I'm in the real pub!!!!
Show off!
MrsHerculePoirot · 23/10/2020 19:55

@CarrieBlue

I loved Friday lunchtimes in the pub. I miss Friday after school in the pub. The pub scenes were the truest bit of ‘Teachers’ (though it was a bit too documentary/close to reality at times, back in the day)
So true @CarrieBlue 😂😂😂
ohthegoats · 23/10/2020 19:58

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay - Yep, just saw the forecast. Lovely!! Typical.

Bitbusyattheminute · 23/10/2020 20:00

Think my lunches were 1 hour and 5 minutes when I first started, then gradually reduced down to 30 minutes.

Our local supermarket was nuts at 545 tonight cos people had the idea that it closed at 6! Or that you couldn't buy nice things after 6. was only there for tonic water and snacks. And cake mix. And chocolate, cos dh had left them off the list. Feels like hibernation, especially with clocks going back.

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2020 20:06

So, @DrMadelineMaxwell, can you order stuff from Amazon, if you're not allowed to buy it in the actual shops?

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2020 20:09

If things remain as they currently are, we have three trips booked this week: Sussex, Kent and Hampshire.
Am all sorted for the first week back after half term so am I chuff going to do any work this week.
Dd and her bf are cooking dinner right now and the wine is flowing. Cheers.

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2020 20:09

Happy half term everyone! I plan to spend it scaremongering and campaigning for school closures(?!) in between writing UCAS references and marking. Oh, and sleeping.

I've got a bottle of prosecco and some hoisin duck pringles. Let the party commence!

Augustbreeze · 23/10/2020 20:10

(@TheHoneyBadger have just asked you - and hopefully not muddied your wise advice - a question on the 'NQT asking for behaviour mgmt advice' thread!)

CallmeAngelina · 23/10/2020 20:12

@Piggywaspushed, come one, help me out here. Who the hell is our Scottish friend?!! It's driving me mad.

DollyMixtureLulus · 23/10/2020 20:13

Hello all.

Desperately missing our staffroom and the end of term nights out. I wish I'd been a bit more social/proactive about dating before all this. It's really hard going being single.

Anyway, woe is me over, it's Friday night, I've had a good week and tomorrow I'm having a long lie.

Bitbusyattheminute · 23/10/2020 20:14

I have ordered lots from amazon. I'm a terrible person cos I never support local shops. Well I do, but they tend to be massive supermarkets or big chain stores. Don't think I've shopped in an independent shop since I used to haunt lee Louise and Quiggins in my youth.

Bitbusyattheminute · 23/10/2020 20:15

I'm sure the Scottish friend was French seal and daffodil in the summer.
