You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

My eldest goes through periods of fiction / non fiction exclusively. I love it when they ask you to read a book you also enjoy Smile
I had to hide a few of middle child's favourite books when she was little - I hated reading them so much! Blush

SaltyAndFresh · 22/09/2020 21:33

Where's the anger at what we're being asked (well not even asked; told) to do?

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2020 21:34

Thanks Oh.

Your setting sound desperate. How the fuck is catch up meant to happen in places like yours without extra REAL funding?

Your descriptions do remind me of a school where I used to work once.

Police used some of the school grounds once for an armed stake out on a house nearby.

WhyNotMe40 · 22/09/2020 21:35

@SaltyAndFresh

Where's the anger at what we're being asked (well not even asked; told) to do?
I forgot that! Yes - you're right!
  1. Denial/disbelief
  2. Fear
  3. Bravado
  4. Anger
  5. Resigned to whatever fate may come...
  6. More anger

Does that look better?

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2020 21:36

Anger is 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5.

WhyNotMe40 · 22/09/2020 21:37

@NeurotrashWarrior

Anger is 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5.
Yup!
TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 21:43

Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing... Indeed.

Though a bit of blame the people for government failings AND make the people responsible for fixing your failings and of course the obligatory inclusion of an idiom. Does he think those folksy sayings make him sound like a man of the people?

Not sure shutting pubs an hour early equates to a meaningful ‘stitch’ in anything.

I find that you can go up and down those emotions stages Why. I thought I was at 3/4 but running across the school ill yesterday to arrive at a lesson virtually incapable of teaching sent me back to disbelief and fear. As did trying to get a test today.

Head has got a test for me, a colleague/friend is going to bring it round in the morning. Hopefully I get a quick negative result so ds can go back to school even if I’m not well enough.

My chest is feeling really heavy and? Don’t know the word to describe it. It’s like having a weight on you that you’re breathing against. In January my chest then started crackling loudly and I couldn’t lie down flat. Hoping this is milder and doesn’t get that bad but it’s the same dry, wrong sensation through my airways. We can’t see doctors so what happens if you have a chest infection? Are you meant to just stay at home without treatment?

Must stop worrying.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 21:44

@NeurotrashWarrior

Anger is 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5.
Yes! But not for long as futility kicks in.
SaltyAndFresh · 22/09/2020 21:46

Yes, you fixed it Smile

ThrawnCow · 22/09/2020 21:48

Dismayed at how we're turning ourselves inside out at school to keep bubbles separate, but parents happy to tell us a parent from another bubble is collecting their child after school, for a play date. Don't they realise every day in school is so precious right now? And they'll be the ones complaining when the schools close.

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/09/2020 21:49

honey if you get a negative result and still feel as if you've got a chest infection you should be able to get a video/phone consultation with your GP, and they ask you to come in if they think they need to see you in person. It has been working really well at my GP surgery afaik. Dd1 liked it when she needed to speak to a doctor, and dh got a prescription for a pre existing condition that flared up. Hopefully your surgery will be running a similar system and you'll be able to be seen if you need it.
Flowers for you. I hope you get a negative result and are feeling much better, very, very soon.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 21:50

The .5 stages are a quick cycle through anger, futility, despair for me then I either go back to 1 or 4.

Apologies for whinging on about symptoms and trying to get a test today and thank you massively for the get a test, it’s not your fault you’re ill etc. I needed that Flowers

WhyNotMe40 · 22/09/2020 22:09

HoneyBadger you're not whinging. It's scary being ill during a pandemic!
I think we all had it in march - and yes had the tight chest, weight on the chest, and a burning feeling when I breathed in.
Even after I "felt" better, if I tried to do too much, the bad hurry chest would come back.
So rest! Take care of yourself as well as you would if it was your child xx

WhyNotMe40 · 22/09/2020 22:09

Hurty chest. Not hurry!

CallmeAngelina · 22/09/2020 22:17

Hope you feel better soon, HoneyBadger.

And I'm glad to hear your dh agrees for you to stop, colourofblue.

HipTightOnions · 22/09/2020 22:17

6 of our staff share a house.

Guess what...

CallmeAngelina · 22/09/2020 22:18

Noooo!

WhyNotMe40 · 22/09/2020 22:18

@HipTightOnions

6 of our staff share a house.

Guess what...

Oh no..... How many positive?
ohthegoats · 22/09/2020 22:20

We considered our options in our key stage meeting tonight, watched a few Oak lessons and shoved the spelling, grammar etc links onto our class webpages. Things like spelling rules - no point in us doing them ourselves. We're only going to do the reading and writing lessons ourselves I think.

Piggywaspushed · 22/09/2020 22:20

I'm on 4 but then I get the anger stuff.

WhenSheWasBad · 22/09/2020 22:27

Get well soon honeybadger hope you are taking a bit of time off even if it is negative. You sound really sick (you too salty and get well soon).

I’m cycling through the grief stages fairly regularly. Although I seem to miss out the Bravado stage - too much of a wimp.

Our school is fully open. But plans are being put in place for teaching online if needs be.

HipTightOnions · 22/09/2020 22:28

Oh no..... How many positive?

None so far. All isolating but only one with symptoms i think - I imagine he’s been given one of our previous tests!

HipTightOnions · 22/09/2020 22:29

Previous -> precious.

CallmeAngelina · 22/09/2020 22:32

Nearly time for a new thread...

DreamingofBrie · 22/09/2020 22:41

Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I was chatting with ds tonight and we were listening to Boris together. He learned the word "bellend" and was laughing about how I had a proper "angry face" on. All puff and no substance. Can't stand him (Boris, not ds!)
