You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

WHY does the normal desktop version of mnet never let pics open large enough? It's never easy to read what people share on there. I'll have to read that one later on my phone.

I'm not looking forward to when we need to test here. The boss says that it's ok, we'll get instant tests and really quick results. Because we are teachers, she says, we will be prioritised.

Except today our local test centre had issues and had to shut down whether you had a test booked there or not as their IT system went down.

And, listening to the news on the radio earlier, NHS and care worker staff will be prioritised and then it will be 'everybody else' so not teachers.

One of our kiddos was off yesterday and it was on SIMs that they were off getting a covid test. Kid has no recollection of having a test yesterday when asked whether it was something that he didn't mind having to have or whether he'd hated it. So either he is the most blase kid going, or (more likely) it was a handy excuse for a day off. Or, more worryingly they didn't take him for the test he needed. Hope it's not that one!

@starrynight19

So the school closed and the head sent this Shock
W.T.A.F????!!!!
Downton57 · 15/09/2020 21:50

@starrynight19 wow. How on earth are you going to be able to work together as a staff team after that?

starrynight19 · 15/09/2020 21:51

Just for info it’s not my school but my local one. This is the absolute icing on the cake for this year. I honestly have no words.

Danglingmod · 15/09/2020 21:53
Shock
Piggywaspushed · 15/09/2020 21:53

OMG that letter from the head! Determined to prove it is not what (s)he did.

It is a salutary thing about how easily it does spread mind. Big spike in Maine atm because of one wedding.

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/09/2020 21:56

@RobertsUncle - as an LSA I am on my 4th timetable. I have had several room changes in addition and I know that my timetable will change tomorrow due to further room changes and again after Friday when we lose a member of staff.

We've been spread very thinly with additional students coming under our dept. We've had to prioritise those with ehcp but we do our best to support all students in those classes who need help but haven't got an ehcp. Keep reporting back that these students need support otherwise as I'm sure you know, they could easily get lost in the system as a 'bad kid'.

GravityFalls · 15/09/2020 21:58

Wow, they really put the head in nobhead, huh. At least they’ve shown where their loyalties lie! No need to ever feel guilty about putting yourself first any more if you work at that school, because the school sure as hell don’t give a shit about staff.

eitak22 · 15/09/2020 22:03

Wow! That letter, seriously wtf? Our head tried to tell us we couldn't leave site during day but has now said we can to go home (a lot of staff v local) or to go for a walk but to try and avoid shops.

I dont remember NHS staff being told they couldn't have a social life but apparently those of us in schools shouldn't Hmm

In other news I have a bloody cold... 7 days in.

RobertsUncle · 15/09/2020 22:06

@minisoksmakehardwork
There is no money, no one to help. We've lost 4 adults in our school since last term . That's a big number for a 1 form entry.
We struggle with the basics on a good day (playtime, lunch). Fortunately no trips this year.
Of course I'll raise it, but I won't be telling them anything they don't already know.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/09/2020 22:09

That letter is appalling!!! My head may be many things, but he'd NEVER send anything like that to the parents. Even if he had something to say to the staff involved he would ALWAYS back us up to the parents.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 15/09/2020 22:09

Bloody hell - stand by for resignations at that primary! Not the actions of a leader.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2020 22:12

Can’t believe that ht! That’s outrageous

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/09/2020 22:13

Wow - I've managed to read that letter now and it's a definite WTF!

Ours tried telling our staff not to leave site. Then one, who pops home to feed their dog checked they could still do that. They were told yes, as long as noone else was at home...as in the same people she lives with and sees before and after school. That makes NO sense. Nor does not going to the shops at lunchtime. What's the difference between me going to the shop before school for a sandwich and getting it at lunchtime instead?

ohthegoats · 15/09/2020 22:14

y2 have to do the missed y1 phonics screening test in a few weeks

We've got a mock test this side of half term, and tests on 9th November.

winewolfhowls · 15/09/2020 22:14

My flabber is completely gasted by that letter. Poor poor staff.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/09/2020 22:15

Another primary in the area with a covid case, and the other secondary in our town (not the one my child attends) also has a case.

But, but, but... we all were told children rarely transmit it or suffer from it.

This is proving differenly is it not?

ohthegoats · 15/09/2020 22:19

Oh my fucking god - that letter.

Everyone should just resign at the same time. I'd resign straight away. It's ages to find a new job, and I wouldn't work for that person.

Has he been following the guidelines without exception?

ohthegoats · 15/09/2020 22:22

Why didn't the deputy get to that letter before it went out?

starrynight19 · 15/09/2020 22:24

ohthegoats maybe they were at the event Confused ?

Augustbreeze · 15/09/2020 22:24

Narcissist head?

noblegiraffe · 15/09/2020 22:25

But, but, but... we all were told children rarely transmit it or suffer from it.

And yet, England is not excluding children from its Rule of 6. Despite what they always told us about children not being a vector.

Agree that letter from that head is appalling. Did they pass it by anyone I wonder? The staff should all tell the head where to stick it.

ohthegoats · 15/09/2020 22:25

Hahahaaha... I can't think for a moment why the head himself wasn't invited total bellend

A union issue, anyway.

Downton57 · 15/09/2020 22:26

Glasgow's Director of Education, Maureen McKenna, emailed headteachers to say a 'ridiculous' number of teachers were getting Covid and "astoundingly we have repeated examples where the adults are not physically distancing from each other - in staff rooms and at meetings". This email was naturally leaked to newspapers and was reported as the truth. I think this situation is just going to worse. Teachers will be blamed for getting ill, even when they're in school, never mind socialising or picking up their lunch in the shops.

ohthegoats · 15/09/2020 22:27

Thing is, the staff who caught it at school will be running around telling everyone that they weren't at the event, so the ones who were will end up being named and shamed. If they handed in their notice, the head would presumably be up shit creek - they've closed the school becaues of their absence, and who would work for him?

Is the letter in any (other) public domain? If so, it'll go viral.
