You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Hells bells - here we go again. How can DfE not know what Covid cases are in schools? They are forever collecting data.

10th of the school off again today.

Here I am. I have gin, haribo and the key to the cupboard where the coloured paper lives.
10% of teaching staff off today. We're going to get critical soon.

phlebasconsidered · 15/09/2020 21:16

Yay!
My village school ( not mine mine but my village mine which my kids attended) has 3 bubbles, which is 3 yeargroups, shut down as of tonight. No local news, no whisper and not even a fb whine on the village page. That is really weird because they whine about streetlamps, noisy exhausts and dog shit.

I like that @MrsHamlet

And thank fuck for the staffroom. I have been very calm for my lovely RQT and fellow team member who is also only just past RQT. But actually I am screaming and swearing FUCKING ALL THE FUCKING TIME in my head.

CallmeAngelina · 15/09/2020 21:21

I am Zen personified, since my spell in the Sin Bin.

Danglingmod · 15/09/2020 21:24

Something a bit odd with local stats. We have had more school year groups with confirmed cases (children or staff) according to local media than there have been positive cases in total in the three local authority areas they come under. So a lag in case reporting compared to school closures? But it still looks like ALL the positive cases in my area are in schools.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/09/2020 21:25

I’m finding myself tiptoeing towards the view of either shut us down until we can do test and trace properly or let’s just stop pretending there is any mitigation and just get on with it.

I really don’t think I’m willing to be forced to comply to completely unsafe work then be told I can’t visit family because rule of six. It’s a piss take. What is this magic 6 in our homes and gardens when I’m with hundreds at work everyday.

Think I might have switched over to non compliance. I stood with a mask on queuing at social distance in the street because only 2 masked people are allowed in a pharmacy the size of a classroom at a time. I’m starting to feel insulted by this shit.

Lone parent of an only child. I cannot just work in isolation and be at home in isolation. I’m not a fucking robot and there is no scientific logic.

I’m not allowed to go overseas at half term or Christmas because I’d have to take 2 weeks unpaid leave on return even if it was in a travel corridor at the time of departure. Therefore I cannot take an overseas holiday this year and I can’t use my holiday to visit family or friends because arbitrary rule of 6.

Pubs, schools, restaurants etc must pretend it’s safe but not be allowed to see their families and stick a mask on when popping in a socially distanced shop for 2!minutes.

If they take away bubble households I’m fucked. My life will be total isolation socially but thrown into a Petri dish at work. I can’t accept that.

I’ve also discovered I can’t do masks for more than a few minutes. Combination of asthma, hot flushes and propensity for anxiety attacks is too much.

I’m not going to turn into a covid denier but one way or the other. I can’t be forced to take huge risks at work but not allowed to visit family or friends because that would cause spread. It’s just bullshit now.

minisoksmakehardwork · 15/09/2020 21:26

If it's anything like our school, the welfare nurse/ school nurse is so busy dealing with potentially covid students and anyone else sent to her with a query sick that they don't have enough hours in the day to write up all the reports about students and staff reporting in sick or isolating.

RobertsUncle · 15/09/2020 21:29

Well done call me.
Adrienne (YouTube yoga guru) has a vid called 'yoga for when you're in a bad mood'. I'll be watching it soon!
Thanks for new thread.
I got a better night's sleep yesterday, so that's a plus. And I'm part time, so last day this week is tomorrow, another plus.
Will end up working another 45 hour week, so not a plus (but better than online teaching I suppose).
And I have 2 pupils with severe ADHD in my class, no TA, no back up from mgt and no consequences to give them for their poor behaviour or means to offer appropriate rewards. Not a plus.
I do however have 3 huge jars of slow gin on the make.
So do I come out in the red or the black?

Lol I really do have all those things in my kitchen right now!

Oops didn't realise we were so close on the last thread, thanks for such a sleepy new one staff!

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/09/2020 21:31

Wow Phleb, that's a lot!

Hope you're ok. It sounds tough at the mo and I understand the concern about your mum too Sad

RobertsUncle · 15/09/2020 21:32

That should read sloe (although it is rather slow)

Exactly me too. I have my positive pants on - have done loads of prep for our dept which will make life easy for us should we end up teaching remotely but also currently. Generally focused on trying to enjoy the new regime and seeing lots of different staff, different bits of the school etc... but then something happens or I remember WTAF about it all.

Me too. So much swearing.
NeurotrashWarrior · 15/09/2020 21:34

honey I have moments of fuckit.

Wandering around a small Sainsbury's with a mask on and barely any other people, then seeing only one friend in the park due to attached kids pushing over 6, and then mixing with a huge number of mask less adults and kids tomorrow.

SaltyAndFresh · 15/09/2020 21:40

I get it @TheHoneyBadger. My altruistic, public-spirited tendencies have been bullshitted into submission.

So I'm isolating at home with the kids, managed to get test today for the symptomatic kids (by just actually turning up to the totally empty testing place - loads of blokes in high vis lounging around playing on their phones....). And I'm now coughing and feel very tight in the chest. FFS.

phlebasconsidered · 15/09/2020 21:45

I have to hold my sweariness in all day although i did say "What the ruddy flip is this?" when a kid brought an owl pellet in this morning, no bag, nothing. Just owl hacking up.

When I get home I find I am sweary to the power of ten. Or 100.

Dd has just come down from her teen pit to tell me 2 maths teachers left and now she has the hairdressing and beauty teacher teaching her maths. I know this is real because it happened last year too, for a brieft period. The school had just got full staff and now this. She's only ks3 so I get why the actual maths teachers have been moved to ks4. It's just that it's symptomatic of all the shit that made teaching hard before and makes it harder now. That poor bloody woman. She knows she's a warm body in a room and she's totally reliant on Maths Mastery. That's awful . I got dumped on to do AS Psychology once and I was TERRIFIED. And quite shit.
