You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

Me too WhyNot.

Mistressiggi · 22/09/2020 16:17

If it's any help, a colleague in my department was off for a couple of weeks last month (he had no choice, contact tracing) and it really didn't increase my workload at all as they sent work in from home and the school paid for supply.

SaltyAndFresh · 22/09/2020 16:22

I asked the principal whether or not he wanted me in with a virus after a negative test and was told yes. I've made it white clear I'm not accepting responsibility for parents complaining about me coughing in class if their children have to SI with a cough / temp.

We now have to invite all SI pupils to our classes via Teams (there are a lot because of a positive case) as well as after-school revision sessions.

If anyone dares moan at me about having to WFH or having to keep DCs home I will probably give them a black eye. I am so fucked off.

Piggywaspushed · 22/09/2020 16:28

I'll join you in a Glasgow kiss!!

I had a boy back in after a negative test. Coughing everywhere ( he shouldn't be in should he....)

Anyway, bless him, he is wearing a mask for all his lessons.

Frlrlrubert · 22/09/2020 16:35

I had two year nines back today that were off all last week, they've missed the first four lessons of their GCSE content. Have they looked at the catch up links - no.

Test results are going to be dire this term with all the ins and outs and the 'non-compulsory' homework policy.

Mistressiggi · 22/09/2020 16:51

The "letter to get a mask exemption in school" mum is having her arse handed to her over on Aibu, which is refreshing.
I noticed in my "why we're not deleting" message regarding that teachers/redundancy thread from last week, that MNHQ said they had no evidence the OP was a troll (ie not who they claim to be etc) but what I was reporting for was the obvious goadiness of the post, which is a form of trolling. Troll and trolling not the same perhaps. Anyway, ancient history now I suppose but a deletion would have felt supportive.

Keepdistance · 22/09/2020 16:58

I dont see how exams can go ahead with children not being tested.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 17:22

Thanks all. Especially for the vagina story. I had half of my colon removed in emergency surgery last year so people generally didn’t want too much detail about the complications of that either.

Have set all cover for tomorrow and sent it in. Takes an age but think I’ve done it well enough that they should be good lessons if the kids try and the cover keeps them working.

Already thinking about Friday cover because all I get is the busy message online. Have emailed head but I dare say she has more important things to juggle. Will be fucked off if ds has to miss 14 days because I can’t get a test. He on the other hand...

Useless government

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2020 17:24

How can they introduce halving wedding sizes to 15, which should only happen once, and merrily keep schools to 30 +?

And make it law to wear masks but primary have no additional protection?

And all clinical vulnerabilities have magically vanished?

Teachers know only too well how important schools are. But at what cost to us???

I had the same MNHQ message in response to my report - I wasn’t reporting a troll but the nastiness of the post.
RigaBalsam · 22/09/2020 17:35

Agree neuro and hugs honey.

Do you think they will ever go to Tier 2 or 3?

phlebasconsidered · 22/09/2020 17:38

I could honestly weep tonight.
I had to pull two boys apart today fighting so had to handle. My class are 9 down (colds) and I regularly send coughers to the office for them to be sent back. Rates in my area are rising as they are everywhere. A kid in my class had a sleepover this weekend with an ex pupil whose parents are covid deniers and now home schoolers and have been all over fb showing themselves at marches. The wiping desks is bullshit when they are still having me mark their work and do face to face work. My slt act like the pandemic doesn't exist. Still in weekly meetings and they joke when I open the windows. I see no difference between my year 6 and a year 7 in terms of possible infection. It's a perfect shitstorm waiting to happen.

And now all the nans can do pick ups. I despair.

Interesting story here : read down to the reasons why women aged 20-39 is a growing group!

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 17:43

Thanks.

Just been catching up on news. So basically teachers carry on as normal despite no tests but people who can should work from home (lucky buggers). Oh and pubs will close at 10 because? London is having policing problems?

No papers mentioning even essential workers at schools which must stay open can’t get tested.

Mess. Off to check test website again

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/09/2020 17:45

Sent 2 home today when they measured a temp over 38 degrees. And another 4 because they felt unwell. I'm pretty sure it's the tonsillitis that's doing the round that's to blame for the temps, but hopefully the kids will be taken for a test due to their temp before being brought back - odds on whether any are sent back in tomorrow???

We've been told that the amount of illness in schools is raging higher than usual rates for this time of year, but that's not too surprising if they've been more isolated from each other and germs in general in classroom environments for the last 6 months.

ohthegoats · 22/09/2020 17:47

Anyone seen this one?

The Twenty-second Republic - the DfE have no idea, Gav MIA, bubbles in and out
Piggywaspushed · 22/09/2020 17:48

yup : but the pubs are to blame, the pubs!!

Piggywaspushed · 22/09/2020 17:49

Anyone had their NASUWT mailshot? the one that says exams shouldn't be happening? Where does that leave the Gavresits?

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 17:49

Have you got a link to that please goats?

Piggywaspushed · 22/09/2020 17:50

My union rep today told me she doesn't ever read the news...

ohthegoats · 22/09/2020 17:50

I had one taken out of my class today on 10 minutes notice because of family case. All very secret squirrel.

Then my runner, who has been 'alright' so far this term, tried to jam himself out of a 4th floor window because his mum was outside shouting up at him.

Now my child is playing an automatic microphone with Frozen songs on it into my ear, in between wailing about the fact she got told off for pushing a laptop on the floor.

FML.

OH is a star. We’ve had a long heart to heart and decided I’m starting maternity leave rather than go back. Feel like the biggest weight has been lifted.

Augustbreeze · 22/09/2020 17:52

Nicola Sturgeon has said no mixing at all indoors and the return of shielding (I think). It'll be informative to see when she changes anything for schools.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/09/2020 17:53

I’m not going to feel guilty anymore. I didn’t create this shitstorm and if testing wasn’t fucked and I was negative I’d only miss one day. Still getting the very busy and don’t even think of phoning message.
