You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

When it doesn't even Seem to be happening for the town centres, I can't see it happening at a school, unless it's well into the 20's?

They don't seem to have the spare capacity.

20s, @NeurotrashWarrior ?
starrynight19 · 18/09/2020 19:52

Thanks Neuro ds hanging on to the hope that he gets a good mix in his house as they can socialise together.
Only year 8 and 12 in now. Minus the ones who have travelled in on numerous buses who are isolating to from those year groups. It’s a massive worry feels like I’m sending her in to catch it.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2020 19:53

Matt Hancock said that sending an entire year group for a test due to a positive case was unacceptable so it would be entirely in keeping with this government's competence levels if it had been a govt testing bus sent by PHE who did it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/09/2020 19:54

@Augustbreeze

It's interesting, it doesn't assume that the class or year group has been sent home to isolate, does it?
Iirc they thought they'd be able to contact trace etc.

It seems in practise that PH teams knows there's a shit show ok it's way and are just sending everyone home.

I know a woman in Germany where exact that has happened though I think she was even tested with her daughter? Certainly the whole school were tested after a few positives and also other schools locally had positives (secondary.)

starrynight19 · 18/09/2020 19:55

Thanks August guess the problem (never minding the fact there are no tests) is in the word ‘may’.
It’s just spreading between them and school are pretty helpless. I did see two staff on duty at the end of the day today wearing both masks and visors outside. They must be so worried.

monkeytennis97 · 18/09/2020 19:56

I literally cannot bear this mantra of 'keep the schools open come what may'... when are the unions going to call for a walkout?. Thank you everyone who have been lovely today. I just know I won't cope with going into school if I can't see my DC.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/09/2020 19:57

20s - I'm plucking a random number from the air just as this government like to pluck random shit and say it's following the science.

Would it take 20 cases for a mobile unit?? What's the threshold?

But if you're all SI at home, and get symptoms, you'd be getting tests elsewhere rather than piling into school?

Though my friend described queuing up in the car park.

hedgehogger1 · 18/09/2020 19:58

SLT have finally given a response to the "there's not enough room to be 2m from the kids in lots of classes". It is "wear a mask".

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/09/2020 20:00

Monkey, I wonder if the rules will be different? It's just too harsh Thanks

It must be extremely stressful as a teacher working with that many cases around you.

I'm finding it hard knowing there was one case in a group I have no contact with. And not wearing masks or visors, and no SD beyond trying desperately to keep
Further away from staff than we used to.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2020 20:02

Everyone has seemed so knackered today, it's been a long week and the news has just been unrelentingly depressing going on about closures and cases and potential lockdowns.

I hope everyone manages to carve out a little bit of sunshine this weekend Wine

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/09/2020 20:10

Evening all. Sending best wishes to everyone. I'm finding things hard but so many of you have much trickier stuff to deal with and I'm hoping you all manage to stay safe and find ways to be with your families.

I am doing a quick visit to my parents tomorrow. We will be outside and a minimum of 3m away and peeing behind a bush but at least I will get to see them.

Viciouslybashed · 18/09/2020 20:11

There's another we hate teachers thread in aibu. I am not a teacher, I'm school staff and it is driving me nuts. I am just gonna end up getting banned for being vile to all the fools on here.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2020 20:14

Well this made me laugh. Couldn't you chat to them or something instead? Grin

Piggywaspushed · 18/09/2020 20:15

My DS's football manager has just sent an email telling parents to SD because authorities are observing matches and reporting non covid compliance to FA....

When are they going to snoop on schools?!

GravityFalls · 18/09/2020 20:16

I’m totally exhausted tonight. It’s like the last days before March 20th but worse somehow. Also with all the pressure of the start of term and trying to pick up some pace and do everything right.

I know this is selfish but the thought of this potential two week circuit break thing over half term is crushing me. To spend all this half term slogging towards a holiday which will involve sitting in the fucking house for a week or two - what’s the fucking point of anything if it’s going to be like that? My birthday is the first weekend of half term and the plan was my mum would come and babysit and we could get our first child free night since Christmas, and it really doesn’t look like that’ll be happening. Wah. Oh well, forget the self-pity, I’ve got Prosecco.

GravityFalls · 18/09/2020 20:17

I WISH someone would snoop in my college! I’d bloody love it. There’s already rumblings on local FB groups about the lack of SD...

Piggywaspushed · 18/09/2020 20:20

Our nearby secret testing site can visit schools. It seems to be up to the school to organise.

Appuskidu · 18/09/2020 20:21

What’s the betting that even if they decide to make October half term a two-week holiday instead of one, we’ll be providing KW childcare during it as well.

MrsHamlet · 18/09/2020 20:25

If that's a thing, I'll be self isolating! I'm on my knees already

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 20:36

OK @Piggywaspushed what is it with the local secret testing unit?? Spill!

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/09/2020 20:37

Utterly selfish first world thought but I blooming hope we are able to go to the very isolated cottage we booked. It was the only thing getting us through the last few weeks of going back to work/ school/ nursery etc.

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/09/2020 20:38

@monkeytennis97 and @motherrunner Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 18/09/2020 20:41

I can't . It's secret . Like Area 51.

Apparently it is also really creepy.

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 21:09

But you can tell us, @Piggywaspushed, we're your gang.......
