You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom, especially if you have not used the hand gel. Close the door quietly on your way out and put your mask on

WineFlowersGinCake to everyone who needs it.

8 members off staff with it sounds extremely stressful and the fact people are concerned teachers will be blamed rather than the government is frustrating. Hope you're ok @monkeytennis97

Kids are touching me and I have to physically manoeuvre some so I'm just marking when I can at school. I've brought some home and they're being ignored quarantining in a bag in the boot of the car.

Neuro, to be honest I am fairly sanguine about coronavirus: it’s awful of course but for me personally it is unlikely to do much other than make me feel a bit unwell.

My problem is because of the ‘new normal’ it involves collecting a class and going to a classroom, then going out again and going to my next class on the yard and repeat ... I’m exhausted and it’s causing me a lot of pain related to SPD.

I was trying really hard to keep going but I had a conversation that really upset me yesterday and to be honest am inclined to think fuck it then.

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 18:21

Interesting chat with our attendance person today. About 1/7 of students absent some days at present - wondered how this compares to other secondary schools? (Staff absence seems surprisingly low at present.)

She said it's in the main not Covid-related stuff though, just everyone catching colds from each other seemingly.

I don't think it matters what "it" is, pregnancy can be tough for some and people being twats definitely doesn't help!

And sadly spd can be very tough Thanks

Thank you @NeurotrashWarrior and @MsAwesomeDragon Flowers

I understand some people think our cases should be actively publicised but as NeurotrashWarrior said a lot of people see it as ‘staff must’ve been breaking the rules, they don’t care about pupils’ rather than ‘the government, guidance, testing, track and trace are all inadequate and schools are in an impossible position.’

DollyMixtureLulus · 18/09/2020 18:28

1/6 of my school were off at the 2/3 week mark with the cold. It’s settled back down again, although now I’ve started to worry that we’re being too complacent or missing something. Can’t win.

Appuskidu · 18/09/2020 18:36

What’s this 2 week lockdown they’re chuntering about?

We go to school for the next 5 weeks but when it gets to half term, I can’t go to the hairdressers?

ohthegoats · 18/09/2020 18:38

1/6 of my school were off at the 2/3 week mark with the cold.

Primary here, but we had almost a third of kids off on one day last week. Has calmed down a bit now, but I've got a couple with anxious parents and a couple who plan on going back in India when they can, so don't want their kids to start a new school year. Only 22 in a full class, so.... it's nice!

I’ve started to worry that we’re being too complacent or missing something

That too though.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2020 18:40

I can’t go to the hairdressers?

OH MY GOD I HADN'T THOUGHT OF THAT. I want to go to Cornwall. But HAIR?! Fuck. That awful root situation again.

DollyMixtureLulus · 18/09/2020 18:42

Nicola Sturgeon issuing dire warnings up here too.

noblegiraffe · 18/09/2020 18:46

This’ll solve your problem, goats

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 18:56

Lovely Matt as usual @ohthegoats !

The people on other threads about possible lockdown saying "schools will stay open".

How? Just how??

Schools are staffed by human beings who may get the virus and or have to isolate because of contact with the virus. Some of these humans are parents of children who may get the virus or have to isolate because of contact with the virus.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/09/2020 18:57

Spd is awful and that combined with more walking in the new normal is enough. Just keep getting signed off with spd. When had you elected to start maternity leave?

Medra · 18/09/2020 19:10

We have over 60 off now due to self isolation. Colds are already going around school, so there are even more off ill.

MrsHamlet · 18/09/2020 19:15

We're in local lockdown where I live from Tuesday. Going to spend the weekend mingling with people I like rather than people I'm paid to deal with.
Actually I'm going to spend it sleeping or napping but still...

CountDuckulasKetchup · 18/09/2020 19:21

Made the mistake of reading the phe report, makes depressing reading especially if you are a secondary teacher.

Then I made the mistake of reading my email, we're all being Trained how to use Google classroom next week in preparation for live teaching ...

colourofblue · 18/09/2020 19:22

Towards the end of November when I would be 37 weeks so if that gets brought forward to 36 weeks I’m fine with that. My main worry is getting a shit reference from them.

I had mine cut yesterday - extra short just in case.....
starrynight19 · 18/09/2020 19:38

Anaisninja what an awful situation for you all. Especially the worry of keeping it quiet and thinking you will be blamed. She really you should be just worried for one another.

colourofblue glad you got some time off to assess things Flowers

Well as of today there are 11 cases in dd school Sad. Can anyone recall what they said about testing if there was an outbreak. I’m sure they promised a bus or some sort to test everyone at the school ? Not sure if I’ve dreamt that. The heads email at close of day was really upsetting saying how tough a week it’s been.

Taking ds to uni tom. Only one person allowed in. Freshers cancelled and now we in another lockdown with a 10pm curfew and no meeting others unless they are in your household.

Sigh 😔 having a large wine I think tonight.

Bloody hell. Are the students worried? That's a lot.

Yes I was told a mobile unit could rock up, but given the one ordered to Gateshead city centre last sat didn't turn up till Sunday I wouldn't hold your breath.

Poor your DS. What a shit start to uni.

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 19:49

Sending love and prayer to aany and all for whom life is particularly hard at this time.

Yes the guidance says this:

"In consultation with the local Director of Public Health, where an outbreak in a school is confirmed, a mobile testing unit may be dispatched to test others who may have been in contact with the person who has tested positive. Testing will first focus on the person’s class, followed by their year group, then the whole school if necessary, in line with routine public health outbreak control practice."

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 19:50

That would be quite a good thing for local health authorities to start doing really wouldn't it?

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/09/2020 19:50

I wonder if that's happened anywhere yet?

Augustbreeze · 18/09/2020 19:51

It's interesting, it doesn't assume that the class or year group has been sent home to isolate, does it?
