You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@RigaBalsam

I feel sick at the thought of tomorrow. Anxiety through the roof.
Ditto here too.
SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 11:22

I'm confused too. That's what I should have said - if you get symptoms.

SaltyAndFresh · 31/08/2020 11:22

Nooo, if you test positive!

MsAwesomeDragon · 31/08/2020 11:25

Our year 11 kids don't have blazers, but for this year only have been told they can wear bum bags because there's more stuff that they need to carry. The younger years can keep their hand sanitizer, tissues, extra stationery, etc in blazer pockets. We thought the head had gone mad suggesting bum bags, but the staff children going into y 11 have said it's a great idea. So bum bags do seem to be back in fashion, and us teachers are out of date, again.

RigaBalsam · 31/08/2020 11:38

When is everyones kids back? Mine is back at my school on Friday.

Yep it's rising ThanksCakeThanksCake
NeurotrashWarrior · 31/08/2020 11:38

Riga, not till the week after this!

CarrieBlue · 31/08/2020 11:39

We’ll all be changing and showering as we come in, luckily at slightly staggered times and we can come in via the garage where the washing machine is, straight into the downstairs shower room. There’s 4 of us at 4 different schools. I don’t think it’ll be a huge difference in terms of prevention but it will make me feel less worried.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/08/2020 11:39

It's a good idea tbh.

HedyPrism · 31/08/2020 11:44

Bum bags are in fashion but worn as a cross body bag, not round the waist.

Augustbreeze · 31/08/2020 11:45

Seen this article? Fake news spread amongst ethnic minority communities saying that if a child has symptoms they'll be whisked away from school - into the care system - without consulting parents, therefore don't send your kids to school! So highlights the lack of trust in government and specific minority's issues:

I almost admire Marsha's PoV. Like you say at least she is being honest.

It is those that are pretending that this is a new thing and are insistent that it is the only reason that they want there children to go back to school

noblegiraffe · 31/08/2020 11:51

I’m now looking at my school bag and thinking it might be too small. I deliberately bought a smaller one to make me clear out the crap that accumulates instead of carrying it around with me all year.

We’ve got two INSETs so I’m not back in the classroom till Thursday. DD is going back on Wednesday.

From @BigChocFrenzy on Daily Numbers thread:

Daily numbers, graphs, analysis thread 16 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4008387-Daily-numbers-graphs-analysis-thread-16#99607366

A S cientist pointing out why we know little and children's role in infections and why this could (is!) a problem.....

Imagine the threads 'AIBU teacher shouldnt say I need to get it from my fanny pack '

lol

The post on the numbers thread is at 10:40 today.

I've posted a study there too. But I don't want to add to any anxiety here; I don't know what that study means in reality or if it's what's already been reported here and there recently.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/08/2020 11:58

Lol staff!

TheHoneyBadger · 31/08/2020 12:03

I have a new trolley with lots of pockets. We have laptops we have to carry everywhere and I had a rotator cuff injury and had to give in to a granny trolley then.

I’m sure I’m laughed at but it’s so handy. I don’t drive so no car to transport books in.

We’re allowed trainers this term because of running about the school. My feet will be very happy.

Anxiety climbing here too. Reminding myself it’s just inset tomorrow. I start teaching on Friday with 4 lessons back to back

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/08/2020 12:07

Inset helps.

We have a lot of time to set up.

Kidneybingo · 31/08/2020 12:08

I'm considering a trolley. But I'm trying not to spend money on school. But am I cutting of my nose?

Augustbreeze · 31/08/2020 12:08

Sending prayers and supportive thoughts and virtual 🤗 (if that's not inappropriate!) to all going in tomorrow.

Does anyone actually have kids in tomorrow?

  • and continuing support to @Mistressiggi and other Scots and Leicestershire staff.
ohthegoats · 31/08/2020 12:10

I'm in tomorrow, kids in on Wednesday. My child is back on Thursday so partner and her are going to dash off to Manchester tonight to see his parents before we get back into it.

Here's the nice view I had driving home from Cornwall last night. I have to bottle those views for when things are especially shit in class. Instead of rubbing vodka directly into my eyeballs, I close my eyes and imagine those views.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/08/2020 12:12

I love my trolley. It's just a shopping one.

noblegiraffe · 31/08/2020 12:14

I’m a failed teacher who should quit and find happiness elsewhere instead of posting education threads on MN. Apparently.
