You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Presumably we (England) will follow,

motherrunner · 24/08/2020 12:55

Was just going to post that link!

monkeytennis97 · 24/08/2020 13:02

Secondary teachers in England rejoice for Nicola Sturgeon!! Please let us follow suit.

@motherrunner

It’s been deleted.
Wow. It was a goblin pissed on whiskey tbf.

Just had the parent letters email from school. Children are now not allowed to wear masks Shock Exceptional circumstances should contact pastoral team.

The last communication we had was that gov says they’re not necessary but they can be worn if wanted. Presumably that means we’re not allowed them either

Appuskidu · 24/08/2020 13:20

Definitely.

Didn’t our friend 50 day she would resign if masks were brought into schools...Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2020 13:26

It was LIKE a goblin pissed on whiskey. Didn’t mean to go full metaphor there.

flumposie · 24/08/2020 13:28

The Times front page is disgusting.

The Seventeenth Republic - The Pick Your Grade Show continues as we edge towards INSET days.
AugustBreeze · 24/08/2020 13:32

Meaning from who, unions presumably??

Because we all know the propaganda is already here, from government!

The Times seems to be sinking very low at the moment.

flumposie · 24/08/2020 13:32

It has made me more determined to enjoy my trips to London and Edinburgh before returning to school on 2 weeks. Then I'll live in a box at school Grin

flumposie · 24/08/2020 13:34

Propaganda from the government and media blaming teachers.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2020 13:39

I’m nearly just plain overweight rather than obese now so that’s good. If they said bmi 40+ can shield I’d have some serious eating to do in a week but reckon I could pull it off.

On the parent email there is a strange coloured timetable diagram that is meant to explain how the staggered lunches and breaks work. I’ve stared at it for ages and can make no sense of it still it’s more information than teachers have been given.

Still no timetable and there is no alcohol in the house

plasticboxesrock · 24/08/2020 13:45

I've just been listening to the radio 4 news where 2 different contributors were urged by the interviewer to say that teachers ought to take more care than they have been doing so that schools can open. Full marks to the N Ireland woman - education or health, I can't remember - who pointed out that teachers ARE taking care and that it is everyone's responsibility to socially distance etc if we want schools to open. I was very cross and burnt my cheese on toast ...

Went into school this morning for the first time since March. It is a tip, furniture all over the place where things had been moved and not put back. The hall full of things no-one wants but is empowered to throw out. Saw some of my colleagues and we all agreed we didn't know where to start or how to get going. So I felt a bit better about that. On the plus side the PTA have been busy reorganising the outside spaces and it looks lovely.

I've gone down from BMI of 42 to 31 so still obese but not 'morbidly obese' any more. Purely done due to the fear of COVID at work.
monkeytennis97 · 24/08/2020 13:48

My DH has gone from BMI of 40 to 29 so is now in the overweight category.. again because of COVID and work.

monkey that’s some impressive weight loss.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2020 13:49

Well done monkey! That’s amazing. I am down from nearly 35 to 30.9. I gained tons after surgery last year and only managed to start losing during lockdown. That must be a lot of weight you’ve lost unless you’re teeny! I’ve lost nearly a stone and a half so far but hope to keep going.

4 stone. I knew I'd be in trouble come September if I didn't shift it.
TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2020 13:54

That’s inspiring! I’d like to lose another 4 stone and it feels like an insurmountable amount till someone says they’ve done it.

To think I used to get my knickers in a knot about a few pounds years ago.

I know I used to be the same.. still got another two stone to be in the middle of the overweight category (aiming for mid November for that). If I was still at BMI 42 I would have resigned I think. It's been hard work but it has been my absolute focus since March.
monkeytennis97 · 24/08/2020 14:01

Between us DH and I have lost 7 stone. A new diet plan,"The Secondary School teachers diet in COVID times".WinkGrin

HedyPrism · 24/08/2020 14:14

I have put on 10kg since the start of lockdown. I'm relying on the 'no time to eat and no staffroom biscuits plus running around school with my wheely trolley' regime to lose it and get back to BMI of 25.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 24/08/2020 14:16

I’m the biggest person at my work, BMI is 39... but, I’m also the youngest avoiding the issue

I know I should loose weight, I know it’s dangerous even without CV-19, but I decided to focus on my MH. Now that I’m feeling a bit more human (and hopefully, once the routine of work kicks back in) I might find it easier to eat healthily and move more.

Why is our government being so bloody shite??

The Seventeenth Republic - The Pick Your Grade Show continues as we edge towards INSET days.
StationView · 24/08/2020 14:31

@plasticboxesrock the World at One infuriated me, too Angry. How dare they bloody say that teachers have a moral responsibility to be more careful that other workers? After all the shite we've put up with from the Tories (and Gove in particular) in the last decade. If they want me to take special care they can give me my final salary retire-at-sixty pension back, thank you very much. I'll be following the moral, responsible example set by Dominic Cummings.
