You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

@Piggywaspushed

A primary school in Derby has closed when 7 members if staff tested positive! I am assuming these are infections picked up at half term. No children have tested positive. Only one of these staff members had symptoms, it seems.

I think the gov't would ordinarily have only advised the bubble to get a test but it looks a bit like everyone did.

In other news Prof Ferguson says if we have a second spoke it will probably be in September. Marvellous...

Why were they tested if they had no symptoms?
Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 14:26

I am assuming the head told them to, or Public Health.

Mistressiggi · 02/06/2020 14:27

Finish at the end of June Famingo, back half way through August though can be a little earlier. This year it's the 11th, which is a week earlier than many areas were meant to be.

StrawberryJam200 · 02/06/2020 14:30

I presumed the Derbyshire school staff had contracted it before half term, presumably were tested because they'd all had contact and the report said one had symptoms.

I wonder if some children or parents also had symptoms and tested positive but that can't be reported on because of confidentiality?

minisoksmakehardwork · 02/06/2020 14:31

Because they were in the school on the same day(s) as the first person to become symptomatic...

Mistressiggi · 02/06/2020 14:31

There's no summer half term, just two bank holidays, between Easter and summer.

FlamingoAndJohn · 02/06/2020 14:54

What I meant want the Autumn term. My mistake.
It’s a long way from mid August to Christmas with only a week off.

fuckweasel · 02/06/2020 15:26

Some authorities in Scotland have two weeks off in October. We do.

Asuitablecat · 02/06/2020 15:39

Thought of youDr when i saw it on the local news site last night. I.want nice time off with the kids in summer. I don't want them back in to.do a massively long term, even if they get 2 weeks off in October. Especially if they get 2 weeks in October cos that's a childcare disaster. People really don't get the logistics of schools. My two are doing well-being week this week, which appears to mean making a mess in the ho u see while I work in.the garden. There's a massive lump of ice in a bowl too. Not sure what that's all about. Although dd is playing house with her mates via whatsapp!

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 15:49

I am sure I read no children or parents tested positive.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 15:52

I am so fed up on every thread of being compared with nurses!

I wonder if doctors get fed up of nurses being singled out as almost literally the Nightingales?

I have so much respect for nursing as a career and admire the long battle the RCN had to get professionalised but why dies no one ever compare teachers to post grad professions such as law?

Could it be because they think we are all a bit dim?

If they were honest they'd admit the same thoughts about nurses. A bit dim, generally female, expected to be saintly and now brave. Must never complain.

tadjennyp · 02/06/2020 16:07

Anything that can be classed as a vocation, piggy. I also chuckle when I read people's comments about getting rid of all left-wing teachers. As if people on the right are banned from entering the profession! Or maybe they are out earning more money...

CallmeAngelina · 02/06/2020 16:30

My word, there's a goady fucker on the summer schools thread!
Trying not to respond...

Asuitablecat · 02/06/2020 16:30

It's hard to distance from nurses, cos then you'll get accused of thinking they're not very bright. But I think.there a lots of routes into nursing where you don't need A levels. And back.when I was doing a levels, you could get into nursing with a couple of E and D grades, whereas I needed A and Bs for my subject.

I think there's also a distinction between between being trained to do a specific job and developing critical thinking etc. My degree didn't train me for anything in.particular, but the essays were a fuck site harder than the ones on my pgce or any subsequent training I've done.

mlou93 · 02/06/2020 16:37

Why is no other profession being asked to give up 20% of their salary so that nurses can have meals and go away? Go away where exactly?!
Unbelievable.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 16:52

I find the battle lines drawn by NHS staff in opposition to us dispiriting. I am optimistic that they in no way represent a majority view held by NHS staff towards the very people who have been keeping their kids in school.

Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 16:52

Numbers are not good today.

TrickyWords · 02/06/2020 16:55

First day with the kids back today. 3/4 of those we expected turned up. It was beautifully calm and relaxed. We spent a couple of hours on how and why to wash your hands, did a bit of English and some art. Extended lunch and break. Just lovely really. I may get a tape recording that just says “DISTANCE” over and over but apart from that it was fine.

Perhaps tomorrow we can move them on to putting their used hand towels in the bin rather than on the counter top.

Mistressiggi · 02/06/2020 16:57

@FlamingoAndJohn

What I meant want the Autumn term. My mistake. It’s a long way from mid August to Christmas with only a week off.
The ones that get a week off in October get a week in Feb too. The ones with two weeks in October get a day or two only in Feb. In my experience anyway.
MossWalk · 02/06/2020 17:06

Christ, how do you get from August- December with only a week off?! Shock you must be on your knees!

Day 2 done- 8/10 in. It’s mentally exhausting. I feel on edge all the time. Constantly clock watching as well so we don’t miss our playground slot etc.

Children are fine and cheerful but asked for proper playtime. Poor pets.

Danglingmod · 02/06/2020 17:09

Oh I so nearly bit on that thread.

I'm paid 0.8. I normally work 1.0 easily. At the moment I'm definitely working more like 1.4. So I require a 75% pay rise. Isn't that how it works?

MossWalk · 02/06/2020 17:12

Ironically I’m working less now we’re back. HT has been very firm about people not lingering in the building and we are much more formal. I’ve been home at 4 two days in a row!

CallmeAngelina · 02/06/2020 17:21

@Piggywaspushed

Numbers are not good today.
Which numbers do you mean?
Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 17:23

324 deaths. Not good for their 7 day rolling average...

CallmeAngelina · 02/06/2020 17:36

Oh, the last I saw was 160 something.
