You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

That is utterly brilliant writing. Should be posted on every school thread.

Thank you, piggy.

@DrMadelineMaxwell I'm so sorry - just read your comment on your DD. That must have been terrifying Flowers.

I have a Y10 son who is handling it fairly badly and that has been my fear too. I hope things get better.

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 13:45

@pfrench

I've just been told we are re-opening for yrs 2,3,4 and 5 from June 22nd.

On what basis?

We have some classrooms currently un-used. So, 🤷‍♀️
DrMadelineMaxwell · 10/06/2020 13:50

@BlessYourCottonSocks Thanks. It was but we're getting there now.

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 14:55

That furlough thread is hilarious. I needed a laugh.

greathat · 10/06/2020 15:02

I can understand some of them a bit more having read the furlough post. They seem to think there's only about 15 mins teaching per day and then we sit there while the little cherubs work completely independently

Beawillalwaysbetopdog · 10/06/2020 15:04

Just peeked in CV (I was good and didn't reply) and someone was suggesting a 8-6 day (for us, not the kids), all lessons filmed and streamed to non-attenders and lessons planned so well that TAs can teach them when we're indisposed.

Not sure which one annoys me most.

Staffers, can we have a new thread please?

GravityFalls · 10/06/2020 15:05

I absolutely love the suggestion that as “all” teachers are doing is sending links and using BBC Bitesized, it would be easy for anyone to do the same to a class of 15 students full-time.

Crack on then, mate!

Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 15:05

Can you imagine the complaints on here from a parents if that furlough thread came to fruition?!

‘I am absolutely FUMMING (it’s always spelt fumming when people are v cross)! My DC is being ‘taught’ in a scout hut in the middle of nowhere by a local hairdresser. The actual proper teacher is teaching the other half of the class in a proper classroom which isn’t fair to begin with, but anyway-the hairdresser has no bloody control over the class and they are running rings round her! My DS was just being your usual cheeky chap (as you do!) and chatting and throwing stuff and she told him off and then he ran out of the classroom (errrr-safeguarding-how was that even allowed to happen?!) into a CAR PARK! Nobody followed him as the hairdresser claimed she couldn’t leave the rest of the the class! And there’s no hot water or locks on the toilets and lunch has to be carried up to the scout hut by the hairdresser’s assistant! Who should I complain to?

GravityFalls · 10/06/2020 15:08

Oh it’s just ludicrous! I mean I’d rather bring my kids to work with me and sit them on tablets in the office while I teach than send them into some ramshackle operation like that. (Actually without wraparound care I’m slightly worried it might come to this...)

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 15:17

You are not far off, really ... see the already existing threads about TAs taking bubbles.

CallmeAngelina · 10/06/2020 15:21

I am lying curled in a ball at the moment (supposed to be planning next week's Home Learning) - intense anxiety about everyone coming back the week after next. I feel sick.
HOW is this going to be safe?

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 15:25

Where is this furlough thread? I fancy a laugh.

Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 15:29

Lots of nudge stuff about the 2 m rule in parliament today....

greathat · 10/06/2020 15:31

Hair dressers would be no good. You'd need someone used to dealing with shit to take on the classes. Who else is furloughed? I imagine security guards are still working...

It's in Chat. Come along and help me out. Apparently we teachers are being negative and "computer says no."
Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 15:35

It’ll be like troops to teaching all over again!

the funny thing is that if they reduced the distance to 1 mtr we would still only be able to fit half a class in.

Appuskidu · 10/06/2020 15:38

I think some people want the 2m rule to stay for everyone else, just not for schools. They want to continue WFH and not going on public transport, as it’s not safe-but it’s ok for schools.

Bouncers?
Piggywaspushed · 10/06/2020 15:42

Security guards have the highest rate of deaths from Covid 19 so I guess they'd be keen to work in the 100% government assured guaranteed covid safe zone of schools.

I'm not looking at other threads but I had to do a filmed observation on my PGCE and it was awful.

This might sound overdramatic but I don't think I could cope with my lessons being livestreamed, knowing that kids could record every mistake I made, and crucially not knowing who was watching me.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2020 15:46

Barmaids who do kicking out time are tough cookies. My favourite barmaid from my misspent youth became a fantastic maths teacher succeeding in a very tough sm school

TheHoneyBadger · 10/06/2020 15:47

Sansa there is no way on earth I’d agree to doing that. You’re not alone and there’s no way it can be forced imo.
