You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Indeed. Fuck them.

I think these people see themselves as our clients and employers. Sorry it’s state education not a private nursery but do feel welcome to take your child elsewhere if you feel you’ll get better customer service.

Asuitablecat · 02/06/2020 22:01

chloedecker fair play for patiently, trying on all the threads!

honeybadger ds has just come to tell me he's finished animal farm. He totally got it. I'm.going to message his teacher and say we did literature and. Politics instead of well being week. Mice and men next.

Or maybe not. Possibly a few too many sex references for his age .

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2020 22:07

Asuitablecat I have spotted them all haven’t I- oops! I’m just in one of those moods because I have busted a gut today to set and mark work from 5 different years groups in one day plus being a mother and worked hard to nail it and these twats who just won’t give up can be soul destroying!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 22:08

It is such a good book cat! And so quick and easy to read and understand which kind of proves the worth of allegory and fables for conveying rich meaning.

I used to sometimes wish I’d become an English teacher but then I think of marking essays!

Danglingmod · 02/06/2020 22:09

Anyone else see this in the Guardian today?

www.theguardian.com/education/2020/jun/02/home-school-in-dagenham-three-children-no-tablet-no-computer

Huge numbers (percentages) of families in many schools who don't have access to tech at home. So Vic Goddard of Passmores has gone over to paper packs for ALL students so as not to disadvantage those without devices.

TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 22:10

I used to love covering ks3 English though. 10 minutes of silent reading at the start of every lesson. Bliss

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2020 22:11

That’s both tragic and brilliant Danglingmod!

Danglingmod · 02/06/2020 22:13

I know. I think it's a great idea. Even IF schools could provide 100% online lessons and 100% of kids could access them, it just wouldn't be good for them to be hunched over staring at screens all day every day! Writing and reading is much better physically, can be done anywhere (in the garden etc).

Danglingmod · 02/06/2020 22:15

(I secretly think a lot of our families have asked for paper packs because they agree and don't want their children gawping at screens all day either. I wouldn't.)

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2020 22:21

Couldn’t agree more Danglingmod!

WhyNotMe40 · 02/06/2020 22:24

Also agree. In fact I've not done lots of the work at by my dd's school as it is all online and instead printed stuff from twinkle or used workbooks.
Speaking of workbooks - can anyone suggest a literacy/English workbook for a year 4 who is exceeding ARE as she's whistled through the one I got her.....

pfrench · 02/06/2020 22:27

I just used CGP books for mine. Was the only stuff I could get her to do. I'm very happy to be putting away the two home learning boxes from the living room.. space for a nice new armchair.

WhyNotMe40 · 02/06/2020 22:30

Thanks

pfrench · 02/06/2020 22:31

If I get to any of those threads after midnight, I'm just telling the fuck off really. I don't know mn parlance - no idea what dementor stuff is aboit.

Half 10. Has taken me since half 2 to do 3 online lessons. FFS.

Mistressiggi · 02/06/2020 22:35

I reported the 11 weeks one. Basically it's calling for people to post how lazy teachers are. Quite a few are posting positive stuff as i happens - but hardly OP's intent or they are painfully naive!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 22:41

I even reject the 11 weeks figure. It’s been 10 weeks since we went into lockdown minus Easter 2 weeks and half term week so 7 weeks of term time.

Mistressiggi · 02/06/2020 22:48

What, as well as not giving a fifth of your salary to nurses you expected time off for holidays? Shirker.

ChloeDecker · 02/06/2020 22:50

Especially when they never return (like the career teachers one too). It’s so obvious. Thanks for reporting!
Piggywaspushed · 02/06/2020 22:56

cat what age is your DS?

TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 23:25

Yep. I want the moon on a stick me.
JimmyGrimble · 03/06/2020 00:01

According to the 11 weeks one we should all be volunteering in care homes. Aaaarrrrgggghhh.

JimmyGrimble · 03/06/2020 00:06

Basically if we haven’t been zooming every day or on google classroom we’ve done chuff all. It’s chastening to see just how little regard these people have for us. I’m in tomorrow, nervous and a bit scared and I really don’t feel like going.

mlou93 · 03/06/2020 01:32

Hope tomorrow goes well @JimmyGrimble Flowers

eitak22 · 03/06/2020 07:34

Considering how hard this week has been I'm hiding here. Work has been horrible and having to stop children playing is heartbreaking.

Plus all LSAs are in (just in case) but head has nothing to do so is trying to give us jobs to fill time including cleaning and sterilising toys that hasnt been used in 3 months.

Asuitablecat · 03/06/2020 08:12

Dd is 10. That awkward bit where vocab is brilliant, but understanding of the world... not so much. Although he quite liked politics. I just throw the odd book.at him to see what sticks. Pratchett: not yet. Orwell: loved. Going Nicholas Fisk next. Dd as I've said before, is resistant to the written word. So.at least 1 won't be following in.my footstepsGrin
