You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

@tadjennyp

Thanks for starting a new thread. My first day went well. Handed in my DBS and P45 and um, went to Aldi. Don't tell any TBs. They will have us in all summer in revenge! Hope all went well in hubs and primaries.
Sorry to hear it has got to this! Hopefully though that is some weight off your shoulders and you have a positive future! Get anything nice in Aldi? Grin

A big gold sticker for everyone in today.

I have a letter from my GP appointment which basically says "work at home". Emailed it to HR at 10am. By 11am i'd got a risk assessment questionnaire. By 11.30 I'd had an email from SLT asking how I felt about going back new it was OK for "really shielded" people to go for a walk.

I have not replied yet.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/06/2020 18:31

Phleb I would just say thanks for asking how I’m feeling. I feel that the best thing for me to do is to follow my doctors professional medical advice.

Don’t bite or give an inch.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/06/2020 18:36

Oh I’m cross on your behalf! How idiotic

flumposie · 01/06/2020 18:50

That's outrageous. Going for a walk is not the same as returning to work.

CallmeAngelina · 01/06/2020 19:00

OK to go for a walk? Mingle at close quarters with up to 15 small children who could have been anywhere with anybody in the last few weeks?
Hmm, now let me see. What could possibly go wrong?

WhyNotMe40 · 01/06/2020 19:05

Phleb that's outrageous!

Well my dd's yr1 teacher is probably not on here but I have to say I'm so happy and relieved at how it went. They had gone to huge trouble with flags and bubble machines to welcome the children back. Orderly one way system with spacing lines to drop the children off, and by the sounds of it they spent most of the time in bubbles on the school field.

My own (secondary) school has also gone to huge lengths to keep staff and students safe by looking at the enormous risk assessment I've been sent. Each classroom only gets used once per day so not hot desking. Etc I just wish it was a couple of weeks later...

tadjennyp · 01/06/2020 19:12

Butterscotch mousse was nice, Chloe !
That's outrageous, Phlebas 😮 I can't believe that was their response.
Well done moss . Zoom Guides meeting now!

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2020 19:14

phleb your HR and SLT sound like morons.

FrippEnos · 01/06/2020 19:20

I am always amazed at how headteachers, who are supposed to be intelligent can say and do such stupid things.

Asuitablecat · 01/06/2020 19:26

Because they just see their solution.and people, actual people, become a spanner in the works.

Danglingmod · 01/06/2020 19:35

I thought this would happen. I said if yesterday: employers will now expect staff back. So sorry, Phleb.

My MAT the same... Ive been wfh as dh is shielded and they'd originally said that would be the case until 30.6. Now because the govt have said shielded can go for a walk, now partners of shielded can just come back to work.

MossWalk · 01/06/2020 19:42

So sorry phleb. You work for complete tossers.

Piggywaspushed · 01/06/2020 19:45

dangling you need to speak to your union about that. They have been really supportive.

If you can work form home, you should.

Our SLT have been sending emails all day basically to prove how on site they all are!

pfrench · 01/06/2020 19:52

I'm SLT. I sent one email today saying I CAN'T WORK FUCKING MSTEAMS, I DON'T WANT TO USE IT.

I'm great me.

Well done all. I've heard really nice things from kids about school - they don't even notice the weird room stuff. My child is in a bubble of 10 in a massive room with the teacher she loves the best. I've sold it as a 'getting ready for year 1' thing with the desk and pack of pen/whiteboard type stuff. She's excited to go back. Luckily they have a massive field (part of the reason we came to live in this village - school's amazing grounds), and have permission to take them to next door woodlands and stuff. I think she'll love it.

Quick question - is it appropriate to take something like a box of ice pops (for the teachers) to put in the freezer so they can have when it's all a bit hot and sweaty? Not the kids - for the teachers after work. I'd totally do that normally, but it's not normal!

tadjennyp · 01/06/2020 19:57

Totes appropriate and really kind.

Asuitablecat · 01/06/2020 21:14

Right. Come on, own up: which one of you's been zooming kids.....from the beach? Cos that's what someone on our local pages is claiming.Grin

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/06/2020 21:23

Hi all!
Off to catch up! I think it might be ok if they're in a box pfrench? glad she enjoyed it :)

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/06/2020 21:24

Jesus phleb! can't they read the guidelines??!! Twats!

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/06/2020 21:27

Well done all who were at work today. You're all amazing!

tadjennyp are you working your notice this term then? Congrats if so!

echt · 01/06/2020 21:44

My school in Victoria has been open since last week, though only for seniors. I teach online as I fall within the DET parameters for this.

Primary schools with limited years are open. The infection rate is very low in Victoria - 1653 and 19 deaths - yet already one primary and secondary have been shut down again, though now re-opening, while two more primaries are closing down with no open date.

tadjennyp · 01/06/2020 22:02

No, neuro pre-covid my new school had negotiated a June 1st start. Would have been ideal to get going and I had two year 11 groups in my last school so not too bad from their point of view.

StrawberryJam200 · 01/06/2020 22:41

Re the Mirror report @NeurotrashWarrior : presumably some of the children or possibly parents may have tested positive too. However presumably they wouldn't be able to report this because they would be keyworker /vulnerable children, possibly a small number, and it would be reasonably identifiable.

StrawberryJam200 · 01/06/2020 22:42

I meant possibly from a small number of children who were in prior to today

AppleKatie · 01/06/2020 22:48

Flowers for all those in today.

Flowers and Gin for those who are coping with the tyranny of a shit SMT. Bastards.
