You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Just popping in quickly.

My head is going for provision for R, 1 and 6 on alternate weeks only for 6 weeks. Only 45% said their children will, come back, which probably means max I children per class. That way they have their normal teacher for 3 weeks of the summer term, and that's it. School is 8.45 - 2.30 to give time for PPA. Not sure what provision for children staying at home in those year groups is yet. Probably BBC, White Rose and Oak, and that's it.

We had training today on Teams for communicating with children and setting work. I'm pretty happy that I could do that for my phase. There will need to be some teaching for the key worker children and vulnerables, haven't heard about that. Might be volunteer - prob a year 2/3 class and a 4/5.

If I get the choice, I'm not sure which would be best - in class for the above hours with a mixed year group KW/V class, or online stuff with emails from parents all over the place. Even if I'm on online stuff, I'll go to my classroom to do it I think.

I would contact your union for guidance @- there’s so much info on their twitter streams etc at the moment. I definitely got the impression they’ve implied it’s not whole classes at once in school etc... but obviously they’ve been so vague and piss poor planners no heedance can be given to what they say. Sorry not to be more help on specifics- I bet someone could advise where to find exact written guidance.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:16

So the speaker will close the house if mps are not 2m apart but the pm wants us to go back to school with no SD. Interestingly to say the least

echt · 13/05/2020 22:19

Hello comrades. Cruising through the past weeks' outpouring by the teacher-bashers, I've notice a characteristic that's been 100% so far:
if a poster is unhappy with the work provided by the school for their DC, they have never been in touch with the school to say anything.

It's like some universal law.:o

CallmeAngelina · 13/05/2020 22:22

Nah. Much better to just come on MN and slag us all off instead.

Rapide · 13/05/2020 22:24

Are you questioning the full-time or the fact that they will be starting on 1 June?
Full-time. And that "everyone" is expected to attend (unless shielding etc)

GuyFawkesDay · 13/05/2020 22:24

Shiiiiiit this is scary.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:35

GuyFawkes: Definitely not this obscure ridiculously rare phenomena posters on here are keen to paint it as. Seems to me like an emerging conditions affecting children being recognised - dare say the docs saying we've got these weird cases of non typical pneumonia were told the same in December. Not saying this syndrome in kids will be a pandemic like covid but that we actually really do not know why this cases are springing up in different cities around the world or if this is going to increase.

But feck it - send them all to school because middle class mums want to work from home in peace.

Rosieposy4 · 13/05/2020 22:38

Evening comrades, these threads don’t half move quickly.
staff your head sounds awesome. Ours has really come into himself over this too, have been impressed at how well he has handled the whole shit show.
Not looking forward to potentially joining our Swedish comrades in their struggle.

Appuskidu · 13/05/2020 22:40

I am so angry about this.

Why isn’t this headline news??

I hope the unions will see this.

LolaSmiles · 13/05/2020 22:47

I know a probably fictional teacher who has told me they're spending all day sipping gin in their garden and it's just like being on holiday so obviously teachers aren't working.
Wink

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 22:50

@Rapide our schools are discussing whether it should be full-time or part-time, the guidance doesn't say anything on this. The guidance to parents does state that they strongly encourage them to let their children attend, but doesn't mention part-time or full-time. It does say that schools may change their start and finish time to help drop offs.

I suppose it could be argued that as nothing is mentioned about part-time that it would be full-time as normal.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:51

it's not headline news because somehow, god knows how, teacher are even bigger hate figures than eton bred tory mps. Again - interesting!

My use of the word, 'interesting' is interesting in itself.

It has become a code for wtaf, surely the whole world can see this shit, look at this screaming inequality/injustice/nonsense. Saying that's 'interesting' is less controversial but points out the glaring madness none the less I hope.

Rapide · 13/05/2020 22:54

I don't think that part-time means half days, but I suppose I was thinking 2 days on/2 days off for each group with maybe a day inbetween for proper deep-cleaning.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 23:00

Deep cleaning by whom rapide and with what resources - genuine Q and not sarcasm honestly.

Rapide · 13/05/2020 23:01

Well, exactly. Don't even get me STARTED on that.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 23:04

@Rapide have you got enough staff to cover full-time with pretty much all eligible children in?

CallmeAngelina · 13/05/2020 23:05

We had no excess cleaning going on in our place before Lockdown, so were bringing in our own stuff to do door handles and plates, and computer keyboards/lightswitches. I was using a mild solution of bleach in warm water and got told it wasn't allowed. Apparently, the "cleaner's" wishy-washy pink stuff with no anti-bac in it, vaguely swirled around 2 classrooms before being changed was preferable. Or even, nothing at all.

FrippEnos · 13/05/2020 23:08

@pfrench

Good to see that you are still about and ok.

Rapide · 13/05/2020 23:08

Just about - certainly if TAs are used, although I don't think that's fair. They're not paid enough for this.
But I think 15 to a group is way too many. And if fewer than that, then no, not enough staff. Or space.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 23:13

I think 15 is too many, but then the logistics get even worse if have smaller groups! It is a lot to ask of TAs, all day with a class with no physical input from the teacher during the day, although I assume they will be given their planning. Are they planning to teach to the full curriculum, do catch up or more like childcare @Rapide?

Rapide · 13/05/2020 23:26

Still in the early stages, but I think the plan is to continue to set Home Learning for those at home, and those on the school premises will cover the same work in class.

RigaBalsam · 13/05/2020 23:41

Again clear Hmm

Year 10s and 12s will go into school to have learning needs ‘assessed’
During the session, Williamson was asked what the government meant by “face-to-face support” for year 10 and 12 pupils, because there isn’t much detail on that part of the proposal in the government guidance.
Williamson said he wanted “all children in those year groups to have the opportunity to go into school and speak with their teachers”.
Those teachers will then “make an assessment of what learning and support that they need to have over the following weeks as we approach the summer holidays, but also making sure they set the work at the right level so through the summer holidays children can benefit from learning through those six weeks”.
“It is important to get these transition years back into schools, even if it is for not a full timetable, but this is a first step in the right direction,” he added

tadjennyp · 13/05/2020 23:44

So is Gav planning for us to be teaching over the six weeks?!
So through the summer holidays children can benefit from learning through those six weeks.
