You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

@Appuskidu

Its not exactly a redaction.

But its a very poor response. and the epitome of an oh shit moment.

ChloeDecker · 13/05/2020 20:51

That’s verrrrry interesting! Yes, must stick in the throat of many TB posters who have indeed as you say, shouted ‘but what’s your problem? They are just following the science!’

namechangedyetagain · 13/05/2020 20:54

@bettybattenburg. I'm a TA. I brought along my own mug and don't even drink vodka where's the gin at?

We're all in this shitstorm together Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2020 20:55

Look what I just found:

Hello from Sweden. Our teachers are on their knees over here, doing half/half classroom teaching & preparing materials for kids w symptoms who aren't allowed in school. Their colleagues are sick, they are demoralised, tired and fed up. It's not as black and white as you make out

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 21:01

None of that is surprising to any of us is it? And none of it is being widely publicised to parents who might be surprised by it in comparison to what they've been exposed to information wise.

Of course you can't expect every parent to read and comprehend all of the legislation and guidance that childcare and education providers are legally required to adhere to in normal times - why would they?

People have to be able to trust authorities to function eg. how would go to work and process mortgage applications all day if you didn't trust that your primary school was legally required to protect your children from risk be that cutting their fingers off with a misplaced knife or being abducted by strangers allowed to walk in and take them from a childcare setting.

Essential workers eg. nurses are so far having to trust that when they drop their kids of at school to be cared for whilst they fulfil essential roles in hospitals they will be kept safe. Angry entitled parents are then saying my children should be there too, even though I'm not an essential worker, even though there's an international pandemic going on, even though if my child infects an essential workers child that child's parents could go on to infect the most vulnerable in society before anyone even realises their throat is a bit sore.

I know i'm preaching to the choir here but it's madness and immoral madness - and I don't use the term 'immoral' lightly. It is pure selfish entitlement driving this.

ChloeDecker · 13/05/2020 21:01

Oh no, those poor teachers in Sweden. Sending virtual support to each and every one.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 13/05/2020 21:05

So the Head call an emergency staff meeting at 6.30pm for those who could make it.

'You have all worked really hard delivering lessons, keeping students on track, delivering extracurricular I am so proud to have each and every one of you as part of the school staff. I want to confirm that the school will not be open during the summer holidays. Please do not believe what you read on social media. It simply is not happening. There is absolutely no expectation that you will come in at all and I am not breaking the conditions of the Burgundy Book. We are all working really hard and deserve a break.'

I am in love with that man (do not tell Mr Staff)

That is so good to hear Staff.

Poor Swedish teachers. The burden must be huge.

November tiredness is so real. How many teachers are going to be dead by then?

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2020 21:17

That is the first thing I have read about Sweden, remarkably...

CarrieBlue · 13/05/2020 21:22

Staff, you have a lovely headteacher!

Rapide · 13/05/2020 21:24

Can anyone help? I've just read the email sent to our Rec/Yr1 parents and it says the "government's new strategy to allow ch'n in your childn's year group to return to school full-time from 1st June, in groups of no more than 15."

Am I right in thinking this is wrong? They haven't said this?????

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 21:26

You have a headteacher who is doing what a headteacher is supposed to do and it's so rare that people are falling in love with him. A head of school putting the wellbeing of their staff, students and community first? Should we be applauding it as some wonderful oddity or should we be expecting it as the norm? Pretty sad when you think of it and see how many of us are like oh wow he sounds lovely

roundtable · 13/05/2020 21:32

Where did you read that piggy?

GuyFawkesDay · 13/05/2020 21:33

Mine is a legend too. She's calm, measured, and is very much approaching it as part time school, part time kids. We prioritise the ones who need us most.

We only work out how many we offer school out to after we have worked out the logistics. She wrote "guidances is from 1st June, not on it. If we need more time, we take it.

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/05/2020 21:33

Your head is indeed doing what he's supposed to do staff. And it is lovely.

I fully expect my head to say pretty much the same thing, he just won't have heard it's supposed to be a possibility yet (he's not in social media). He sent an email this morning to say that the DfE statement is not what he heard Boris say on Sunday. He was quite forceful in saying that 1st June is the first possible day for any year 10 and 12 provision. He had a meeting with other heads from local secondary schools to discuss plans and attempt to have some sort of common plan for how this provision will look. He is definite that whole yeargroup plans are off the table, and will be trying to minimise contact between staff and pupils as much as he possibly can.

Rapide · 13/05/2020 21:35

But ours now appears to be saying that Nursery, Recpetion, Year 1 and Year 6 will all be in FULL-TIME from 1st June.
Can anyone point to where in the dfe guidance it says that?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 13/05/2020 21:36

Before this year he was a twat - a real walkover. There was a run-in with a couple of parents at the start of the academic year and he has been like Rocky ever since. It has been such a transformation that teachers love him, the naughty kids want to avoid him and some parents are very wary of him. It has led us to being oversubscribed for September 2020 so whatever the two families did to annoy him (he has never told us what) in September really worked (I dont think they liked the result)

It doesn’t say that.

Piggywaspushed · 13/05/2020 21:41

But who is going to knock all these heads' heads together??

Cyberworrier · 13/05/2020 21:53

Any union rep at your school @Rapide? Would you feel uncomfortable raising their points..?

Appuskidu · 13/05/2020 21:54
Hmm

Rapide · 13/05/2020 21:55

I need to be sure of my facts first.
It has also been said in this same letter to parents, that it is "the government's expectation that all Year R children will return unless they or household member is "extremely vulnerable."
Is that right? I've never seen ANYTHING saying this.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 21:55

Are you questioning the full-time or the fact that they will be starting on 1 June?
