But are 10A1 the same group for all subjects, including options?

OceanOrchid · 12/05/2020 12:02

Or is 10A1 an individual desk so you’d see four students a day?

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 12:19

What will you actually be doing in your small group @StaffAssociationRepresentative?

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 12:25

At least trying to work out the logistics of grouping distracts everyone from the deadly virus!!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 12:52

So 10A will be split into two groups : 10A1 and 10A2.

The sessions for all year 10 groups will be the same - general feedback on online learning and end of year exams, followed by some chit chat about the next part of the syllabus.

Therefore any no-shows will not be disadvantaged

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 12:54

So I see all my year 10.

So Johnny in my 10A group may also be Johnny in Geography 10A but that group is being called in at another time

OceanOrchid · 12/05/2020 13:24

But that means that Johnny is part of two different groups? 10A English on a Monday and 10A Geography on a Tuesday.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 13:27

Are these a one off or a weekly meeting?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 13:43

I think Johnny will have a one contact opportunity with me, then a one with geography etc so he will see each of his subject teachers physically once before the end of term. So Johnny will come into school to see each subject teacher once. He may have 10 visits to school but I will only have 1 visit

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 13:45

So Johnny sees

10A1 me
10D1 maths
10B1 English
10A1 geography
10B1 art

Etc

thunderthighsohwoe · 12/05/2020 13:47

Now I might be getting cynical in my sleep-deprived, toddler chaos haze but does anyone suspect that the government are treating this as a win win approach for them?

Either schools put in a heroic effort and manage this, at which point the masses congratulate Boris on getting childcare sorted for the under 11s...

Or, it can’t happen and Boris then insinuates that he did have it all sorted but the lazy, inept teaching profession buggered it up for everyone.

Namenic · 12/05/2020 13:51

I would be asking why the govt do not pilot a roll out of this back to school stuff. Do they have community testing ready to measure effect before they get roll out these huge changes everywhere?

Hercwasonaroll · 12/05/2020 13:54

Good point Namemic. A small local pilot would be good BUT can you see people volunteering for that?!

I think by limiting year groups they are hoping it will be a step by step roll out.

user1471468296 · 12/05/2020 15:08

How does this whole one teacher one group thing work with part time teachers do you think? I work in primary and only teach in the mornings but across years R-4.

SleepymummyZzz · 12/05/2020 15:11

My Head has completely ignored the one Teacher one group advice (probably the only bit of the whole ruddy document that would offer us any protection!) and decided the small groups will rotate around 4 adults each day. They will stay in their groups (safer for them) but the adults will be exposed to close social contact with 60 different 4/5 year olds each day. Madness!

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 15:27

@SleepymummyZzz that will backfire if unfortunately one of the children get the virus as will have 4 adults self isolating at the same time. What is your Head's thinking about rotating the children around 4 adults each day? Is that to ensure each child gets some time with their actual class teacher?

SleepymummyZzz · 12/05/2020 15:30

@ineedaholidaynow I think that is his reasoning (he hasn’t actually explained it 🙄) as half the groups will be with TAs. Good point about the self isolating implications. Should I point this out to him, he hasn’t actually asked for comments 🤣

FlibbertyGiblets · 12/05/2020 15:50

This sounds like a total nightmare. You have an impossible task, all of you; teachers, TAs, cleaning staff, maintenance team, admin, management, all of you. I'm so sorry, what a shower of shite.

Namenic · 12/05/2020 16:09

I’m sure people would volunteer, especially in an area with low rate of cases - especially if govt provide extra testing and surveillance in that area. Some people cannot wait to get out of lockdown

SansaSnark · 12/05/2020 17:53

@StaffAssociationRepresentative

The guidance to me suggests you shouldn't see multiple groups on the same day, though?

It wouldn't work for us, as we have lots of pupils bussed in, unless we organised kids by postcode, rather than ability.

There is just so much nonsense and vagueness in this advice- it is really concerning and makes it very difficult for heads etc to come up with a workable plan.

Easilyanxious · 12/05/2020 18:39

Judging by half the posts on here you won't have full classes returning but other countries seem to be slowly managing it ,

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 12/05/2020 18:44

@Easilyanxious - and we will manage also. Don’t be negative

#solidarity

Easilyanxious · 12/05/2020 18:55

I’m not being negative just pointing out that other countries are having to cope yet we seem to not want to
I have full faith in the teachers at my school schools to make it work

Easilyanxious · 12/05/2020 18:55

Should said dc school

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/05/2020 20:45

other countries seem to be slowly managing it ,

Other counties have entirely dodgy education systems. Eg Denmark has primary schools up to year 8 or 9; staff of the older years are teaching the primary lot in groups as small at 5-7.

Other Nordic countries don't start formal education till age 7 and mostly do outside learning till then.
