You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

Remarkably sane thread on AIBU where so far- only up to p4 mind you- people are praising a HT for sending out a frank email telling people to be wary of sending their children back and outlining social distancing measures.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 16:23

Teachers who do unquestioningly do directed work in holidays and take on tasks outside what we are contracted to do eg cleaning and rearranging the schools furniture etc may mean well but will really be damaging our interests

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 16:24

Bearing in mind how long this could go on for and the adage around giving an inch.

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 16:26

It's so hard to do in reality but I agree honey.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 16:32

Apparently there’s a thread about school staff considering resigning. Has anyone seen it and can link please?

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 16:40

AIBU thread reached page 6 before we're accused of 'hysterics' and a 'carry on'. Ah well. 5 pages of general support isn't too bad.

Is it tomorrow the DfE's guidance is supposed to appear?

Appuskidu · 12/05/2020 16:48

The DfE guidance came out yesterday, @MossWalk

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 16:50

Was that it?!

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 16:51

Quite a few links for you on these pages moss if you look back .

I may also have copied bits in a frenzy Blush clav in disguise

So true.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 16:53

But it's also cuts : there was a halcyon period just after the Teacher's Workload Agreement when we did no copying, no ordering, no trips organising, no displays and admin staff did it al.

No our admin person has morphed into a cover and admin support who has no time at all to do anything other than urgent admin and lots of cover.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 16:58

A man on BBC just said people might need to open doors with their feet form now on. I foresee jaded site agents changing -even more-- much 'reinforced ' door glass from here on.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 17:02

Grr to the utter dickhead on the resignation thread. So uninformed yet so bloody confident in her ignorance. Twat.

See? I’m getting sweary again! Fuck this abuse from all angles.

Saucery · 12/05/2020 17:06

Wonder which budget replacing the multiple heavy doors at school is going to come from? And would that even be allowable as a fire door?
You can shove them one way but they have huge metal handles the other way so can’t even do the Little Finger Door Open I was taught by a First Aider many moons ago (it wasn’t on the course, he was ahead of his time and obsessed with Germs).

I’ve perfected the Kissing-Gate Shimmy on my daily walk. Maybe they could be replaced with those?

Saucery · 12/05/2020 17:10

I feel guilty even considering resignation. It’s not an option for so many people, after all. Plus, I love my job, I’ve been doing it 11 years now and to see the difference my role makes to so many children is just fantastic. Why should leaving when I’ve a good 15 years left developing those children and myself just because the govt can’t tell their arse from their elbow (also alternative ways to open doors, coincidentally)?

minisoksmakehardwork · 12/05/2020 17:12

We'll all be standing there waiting for someone to come through from the other side! Or purchasing those 'door hooks' that seem to have sprung up recently so we don't have to touch the doors. Mind, given the lack of hand washing I've seen in public toilets even before all this, maybe that's not a bad idea.

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 17:14

Most of ours just boot doors open anyway.

Maybe now they'll close it politely to make a point when they're annoyed Grin

Saucery · 12/05/2020 17:17

Many huffy children have tried to slam doors to make a point in my school. All have failed. Damn those soft-close hinges Grin

CallmeAngelina · 12/05/2020 17:19

I'm very good at going through doors backwards, pushing with my bum, as you do with a double buggy, but yeah, those heavy ones that can't be pulled with a little finger whilst also carrying a mug of coffee and a few files are a bugger.

CallmeAngelina · 12/05/2020 17:20

But I presume we can't wedge them open permanently, as they're fire doors?
Damn it - another thing those Government bods have missed.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/05/2020 17:26

Must admit I take a certain satisfaction in pointing out, “that door doesn’t slam by the way” as someone storms out Grin

Cantaloupeisland · 12/05/2020 17:27

Name changed and got involved in that thread, couldn't help it. Some serious arseholes on there!

CallmeAngelina · 12/05/2020 17:29

Oh Gawd, another thread to make me cross?

Saucery · 12/05/2020 17:32

Wonder what the reply would be to a thread about an employee expected to remove suspected asbestos without the proper precautions? Bet it wouldn’t be ‘suck it up, you have LOADS of holiday to recover and anyway, I once had to clean out a grain silo while dangling on shoelaces knotted together’
