You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

NI have now published their lockdown easing proposals.

MossWalk · 12/05/2020 13:02

When will NI schools go back? Do they have holidays like ours or like the Scottish schools?

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/05/2020 13:04

We need a hand sanitiser emoji! is gin strong enough? Helps the stress at least...

Thanks. Looks to be a while before they reopen then

People who are furloughed will be able to send their kids to school despite being at home themselves. I’ve never resented furloughed people but I suspect I would resent looking after their kids unsafely whilst they stayed home

reefedsail · 12/05/2020 13:13

Oh my lord, that is SO much more sensible than the English plan.

So frustrating!

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 13:14

School holiday seems to start 1 July, so I assume that would impact their proposals @MossWalk

The BBC News has just had an item on schools going back, did not mention Secondary schools at all.

Piggywaspushed · 12/05/2020 13:24

Nope. they did include the virologist from this morning, conveniently cutting out the bit about them being contagious.

Whilst focusing on children's health is understandable, at some point people do need to realise that teachers from one of the biggest workforces in the country.

pinkrocker · 12/05/2020 13:32

Slightly off topic here, my mate has a son in Y10, his school won't post out paper packs and her internet is crap in her rural area, can you recommend a workbook for Maths and English she can get from Amazon etc? He is worrying and so is she that he'll get left behind. I've said (and her school have said) don't worry about it, but she is, we kind of assumed he'd be able to access Oak academy and BBC Bitesize but they can't.

pinkrocker · 12/05/2020 13:34

He says GCSE Y10 workbooks he had were easy, he wants a challenge.

CarrieBlue · 12/05/2020 13:35

I think this headteacher has had enough and I don’t blame him!

EducatingArti · 12/05/2020 13:38

I'd recommend CGP GCSE revision books and workbooks for higher level.

borntobequiet · 12/05/2020 13:39

No hand sanitizer but here’s some soap (I think. I’m not good with emojis).
🧼

Saucery · 12/05/2020 13:40

Has he looked at the CGP books, pinkrocker? Or are those the workbooks he is finding easy?
I’m not secondary, but DS had those for some subjects as an extra.

BelleSausage · 12/05/2020 13:42

@CarrieBlue

That head is so right. Will parents feel the same once a child in the class dies. Or a teacher dies?

The risk is low for children but it isn’t non-existent. My dad still remembers losing classmates to preventable infections in the 30s.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/05/2020 13:42

CGP books are always good. Letts used to be many moons ago; I assume still are.

Appuskidu · 12/05/2020 13:48

‘The Government should only open schools in line with the scientific and medical advice... and ignore the minority in teaching unions spoiling for a fight.'

A nice comment from a Tory MP there!

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 13:51

The BBC article also didn't mention nurseries. Some of our local schools have foundation units so a nice big space for Early Years including YR. That will be fun trying to sort out small groups!

DreamingofBrie · 12/05/2020 13:53

@pinkrocker, if he fancies a challenge, the past papers from the UKMT are currently available to download for free:

www.ukmt.org.uk/shop

In Y10 he'd be looking at intermediate challenges, but he could go for the senior challenges if he fancied.

oddsbodkins · 12/05/2020 14:15

Well, we've all just been told we've got to all be back on 1st June and have to work through half term to rejig the classrooms. Marvellous!

Whitestick · 12/05/2020 14:17

Do you get extra pay for that or will it be a week in lieu? Cause if it's neither, fuck that for a game of soldiers.
