You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If I read one more comment about year 6 deserve their end of school celebrations

I agree closure is a healthy idea at the same time, ffs, all those y6 proms were never a thing in the past. I left and started several schools without knowing a soul, it genuinely didn't affect me.Kids will be pining for it if the parent's attitude is like that.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2020 08:58

I do get cross sometimes; in the war kids turned up to school to find it bombed.

Hercwasonaroll · 11/05/2020 09:01

Shielding staff can set work for other years from home.

Logistics will be interesting, this is why he won't come up with a definitive policy. Everything will be "if" or "could" depending on the setting.

DreamingofBrie · 11/05/2020 09:03

Morning all. Unpaid day for me today, so a chance to catch up on housework!

Keen to see guidance from our SLT re. opening after half term. I have potentially 1dc going back in and 2 staying off.

Re. tents and wasps Shock, it would be carnage! But perhaps the buckets would have dual uses as both hand washing stations and toilets (not both at the same time obviously Envy Grin).

Hope everyone has a good day.

Asuitablecat · 11/05/2020 09:04

Exactly. I get the occasional twinge of sadness for them, but then think that this is all they know. I asked them last night how they're coping. Dc1 says it's just like normal. Dc2 is missing her mates and a bit bored. I've warned them that school won't be like it used to be.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 09:19

There is a poster on the Year 2 thread, who I have seen all over the place spouting bollocks , who is maintaining with some authority that all Primary year groups will be back by the end of June.
NOWHERE has this been said.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 09:23

Pah. You being defeatist again?

RigaBalsam · 11/05/2020 09:26

Already there are numerous threads about why not my year, Secondary etc?

It is comical it really is. The selfish nature if some people.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2020 09:35

Just read the bbc report; MIGHT is the key word with even the 3 groups mentioned.

You say that but I can think of half a dozen kids that are way ahead of you.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 09:41

I know. But this poster has been merrily reassuring people all over MN who are fed up with Lockdown that it's all going to be over in a week or two once teachers get their arses handed to them as deserved.

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/05/2020 09:49

I’ll be interested to read the threads started by people who had been told by their headteacher/friend/aunt’s dog/hairdresser that schools won’t be opening until September and what they have to say.

Wait4nothing · 11/05/2020 09:52

I think the plan will be all primary back before summer - not socially distancing just reducing Contact with other classes. I don’t think this will happen though. Not enough staff & expectation that teachers don’t socially distance in school but do in all other areas shouldn’t be allowed unless ppe is provided. Which it won’t be really. My head has quickly sent a message to all parents saying they don’t know how it will look and have explained some of the questions they will need answering by government before they can finalise plans (like plans for shielding staff and children)

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/05/2020 09:57

I wonder if the R rate will go up just in time for them to not open the schools and they can blame it on the public going out and not being alert enough.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 11/05/2020 09:58

I read that the government hoped that all primary schools might be back by the end of summer term.

I think some parents need grammar lessons and a clear explanation of what modal verbs do in a sentence.** They obviously do not understand the difference between schools could go back and schools will go back.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 09:59

But, maybe they have been told that! Stupid for believing anything any random person says, including Government ministers and "experts," actually, but remember that schools HAVE been open ever since Lockdown began and we STILL don't know whether they will be "properly" opening before September, or even if then.
It's too early to point fingers at who has called this correctly, as we're still in the midst of it all.

Piggywaspushed · 11/05/2020 10:08

The whole thing yesterday was absolutely deliberately jam packed with modal verbs!

oddsbodkins · 11/05/2020 10:21

Had a moment of pause this morning for my lovely Year 6 class who should have been starting their SAT's this week. We all worked so bloody hard.

We've got a virtual staff meeting tomorrow to discuss how we're going to go forward with re-opening. Whatever we do, it won't be good enough - it never is.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 10:22

I'm beginning to understand why we have such a problem with kids' comprehension skills in class if the level of understanding demonstrated by many adults on here (and all over SM, actually) is anything to go by.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/05/2020 11:05

Just watched a schools ed film being shared locally on school email on 'bucket drumming'... 🤷🏻‍♀️

SansaSnark · 11/05/2020 11:08

who is maintaining with some authority that all Primary year groups will be back by the end of June.

There are so many people spouting bollocks like it is the truth.

Our head (secondary), who is pretty on the ball about most things has said as part of our virtual staff briefing today:

-He is really hopeful about getting Y10 in for "a few weeks" this term, but it would not look like school as normal.

-He is not sure if we will be able to get Y12 back in a meaningful way before the summer.

-He is risk assessing our usual Y6 transition activities. At the moment, he doesn't expect to have Y6 visiting the school but teachers may visit feeder primary schools. (This will disappoint a lot of mumsnet parents).

-Our priority is still focusing on home/distance learning for all students and this will be the main way of learning until the summer.

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 11:09

I think that for a lot of MN parents, it's the Leavers' Disco and Shirt-signing they're most keen to have continue!

SansaSnark · 11/05/2020 11:17

Surely shirt signing can't be done, as it's not social distancing?

I know it will be really hard to manage, but if Y6 go back without any social distancing at all, it's very likely it will increase the R number a bit!

CallmeAngelina · 11/05/2020 11:20

Surely shirt signing can't be done, as it's not social distancing?
Of course it's not. Nor is the disco, or leavers' assembly, or the trip to Thorpe Park or any of it, but I keep seeing people saying how important it is for Year 6 to return for these "rites of passage" and to say goodbye.
None of it can happen.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 11/05/2020 11:22

It is the parents who feel they are missing out and in turn are creating more anxiety within their children by saying ‘it’s so unfair you are missing out ‘ blah blah blah instead of trying a post outlook
