So continuing on from our boycott/flowers we need to continue to defend our profession. This is teacher/school staff chat - if you do not fall into that category please start you own thread elsewhere.

Yet another thread where someone has discovered that their child isn't as delightful as they thought and shock horror, they have to parent themselves because the teachers are all sat doing nothing whilst be paid an fortune.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 30/04/2020 07:31

Just on facebook and a friend had shared the article about phased return in June. Pretty much every single response was negative- as in I dont want my children going back, how can they socially distance, it won't be any good anyway for workers if only certain days. And so on. So outside the mumsnet bubble it does seem that a lot of people are not so keen to put us back out there

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 07:37

Yes, somewhere between 10 and 11% want schools back, depending on which survey you read. I think, again, it is mainly to do with convenience and the economy as in they don't want part time hors and hassle. But it is important parents are prepared for this sort of thing! And ,a s for the kids, they will hate it. It's such a mess.

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 07:58

Right, so that new thread is irritating but not trending yet so STAY AWAY. Hopefully, it will fizzle out. Even non teachers are bored of the thread repetition now.

I just wrote a comment and deleted ; proud!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 30/04/2020 08:13

@Everytimeref - just ignore those threads, each time we comment we just seem to attract more baiters. It is not worth commenting as no matter what we say we just add fuel to the fire.

People are frustrated with their kids, but instead of doing the sensible thing today and blocking their kids for being lazy shirts, they take it out on us.

No fractions today, so the Sensiblecat house should be complete harmony.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 30/04/2020 08:23

The teacher threads are incredibly boring now. From both sides. They're literally all the same. Talk to your DCs school if you've got a problem, not MN.

What a joy it was to read this comment

Have a great, or at least as good as can be expected under the circumstances, day everyone and stay away from AIBU in order to keep those stress levels down Brew

Thanks Enjoy staff. I haven't seen the thread but that's a good comment.

CarrieBlue · 30/04/2020 08:58

I think the problem it that schools have mothballed buildings so they will have to at least run taps and flush loos a few times. During most holidays things do happen in most school buildings but we have all been closed since before the Easter break.

Our school has a fortnightly flush through of all water outlets - I guess that’s probably the same for all buildings - and carried out by the caretaker.

Appuskidu · 30/04/2020 08:58

I know I shouldn’t believe everything I read but I’ve just seen on another thread that Wales/Scotland and Ireland have already announced they won’t be back until September, but England hasn’t (and has just mentioned a phased return). Is that actually true?

LolaSmiles · 30/04/2020 09:05

I saw that comment and I wish I could hi 5 that poster.

Common sense says that if you're not sure about your child's provision, contact their school in a reasonable way and ask them.

Ranging on Mumsnet with a smattering of goady anti-school/teacher comments isn't going to get you a resolution.

Then again you could write a textbook guide to parents seeking advice about school Vs parents seeking wanting to fan a 5 hour hate on mumsnet whilst doing nothing about the problem in real life.

Cantaloupeisland · 30/04/2020 09:12

The buildings/maintenance is definitely an issue- speaking to our premises manager this morning, the amount they need to do before any reopening would need a good two weeks notice at least and we've still been open to key worker kids! Some of the work would need to be completed and signed off by specialist services, which of course every school is then going to need once we're given an opening date

pfrench · 30/04/2020 09:53

I totally lost my temper on that thread in AIBU. Horrible, horrible people.

shampooandtea · 30/04/2020 10:20

Awful people. Seen about three threads in Tom Moore. Sad

TubereuseNordlys · 30/04/2020 10:37

I have to say I am feeling a whole lot better for hiding threads. I'm enjoying this one, listening to all your experiences and reminiscing Smile

It's sad to see so many negative and judgemental threads - teaching, Captain (Colonel!) Tom, nurses, people who don't follow an arbitrary set of rules made up by the poster... I'm hiding them all!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 30/04/2020 10:38

Just taking a quick break from marking and report writing before I start a Year 12 double lesson.

I am not even going to look at the Capt Tom threads. I really don't understand all the negativity that comes from some people and think it is incredibly unhealthy and draining to be constantly raging and spiteful. I reckon some of them must be rather fake in real life and all 'are you alright hun' whilst really meaning give me the gossip so I can have a real bitch about you later.

So, I just went to Sainsburys (I know I know bashers, on a working day!). Anyway, they have now put up big, HUGE barriers between each queue to keep customers apart, as well as the Perspex screens to protect their till staff.

How on earth could even 11 % of people think schools could operate when we see that at a supermarket?

Piggywaspushed · 30/04/2020 10:44

Colonel Tom (as he is now!) is a nearish neighbour of mine and my DS used to play cricket with his grandson. Claim to fame!

I have written his grandson's name many times on a cricket scorebook!

bettybattenburg · 30/04/2020 11:04

YY to school workers. As I am a lowly TA I didn't feel entitled to post in The Staffroom really until this thread which was said in the OP to be for school staff.
