Teachers’ pay deal has finally been announced on the last possible day as MPs flee the backlash for their summer recess.

3.5% for those on the main pay scale
2% for those on the upper pay scale
1.5% for those on the leadership scale.

Anything above 1% will be funded by the DfE.

Inflation currently stands at 2.3%.

I understand that they need to increase pay at the bottom end to attract graduates into the profession, but am annoyed that loyal and experienced teachers are still getting effective pay cuts.

I'm an experienced teacher on U1 and I opted to work part time after having my twins. Hardly any part time work, lots advertised at only wanting cheaper, less experienced staff. Have been on temporary contracts for 3 years due to the state of school budgets. Good job I love my work otherwise I'd have left years ago! 2% is a step in the right direction but I can totally see why lots of my friends have left the profession.
