Ok, so were Offstood (I know that isn't the right past tense) and no one outside of SLT knows result. Is this normal? Last full inspection was years ago when we were told the next day but things may have changed. It's an odd feeling.

How many days was the inspection? If only one day, then your rating will be the same as it was.

They shouldn’t tell you but they should give sly an indication of what the report will say. We were done this week too.

Yes, I think we have been given an indication . We were outstanding. I suspect we no longer are.

We have just had ours and the staff were not told until the official paperwork arrived which took 10 days or so.
I am a gov so dont know if that is uaual practice or not !

Can’t you guess from how SLT are? It’ll either still be outstanding, and the second day was to verify, or downgraded to good (or below). SLT must be extremely discreet if they’re able to completely hide this!

My DD's primary school was inspected at the end of September and they still haven't told the parents the result (said would send out a communication when they heard)...they sent something out just before half term to say they still hadn't heard but it all seems very strange to me!

I thought it only changed into a two day inspection if the grading was going to change. So seeing as you were outstanding it would imply that's no longer the case unless they managed to provide enough evidence on the second day but it would be very unlikely.

I've never heard of the teaching staff not being told the outcome. I know we used to have to keep it confidential until the official report came out but to not be told at all seems very strange. Does anyone know if this is official guidance? We're due any day Confused

Yes. I’d agree with above poster. You can’t still be outstanding if you had a 2-day inspection. So it’s either good or below.

We had ofsted a few weeks ago and teachers were told the result the same day. We were told we couldn’t say anything to anyone else though.

We weren’t allowed to be told. The head did tell us she was very pleased and we all sort of “knew” we’d gone from good to outstanding by the mood of the governors and SLT but nobody was allowed to tell us that or confirm it. It was really annoying.

The official guidance is very definitely that only the staff in the final briefing should know until the report is ready for publication. Officially the HT and governors, usually extended to include SLT.

No,not the case. A school that is outstanding on day 1 (section 5) can be told that not enough evidence had been gathered and so it turns into section 8. the second day is given to you to attempt to prove your status : so they sent in 5 more inspectors and watched about 30 more lessons etc. The second day doesn't guarantee a change of status - but it does rather intimate it is in the offing.

What on earth is the reasoning behind this? Are teachers s beneath contempt that we are not to be trusted?

I might not mind so much if the school had actually told us they can't tell us...

A school down the road got an RI. We all knew this within days. Report published six months later.

It might still be outstanding, if the second day did not confirm that you should move down.

The not telling anybody thing is a bit daft when a one day inspection of a good school isn't extended to two days. Because once you know they're not coming back, you know the outcome!

I tend to think if there's no hint from SMT it isn't good news and they are putting off telling.. or appealing.

It's because the report goes through various drafts before it is released, and if there are concerns about how the inspection has been carried out, for example, these are reported and dealt with before the judgement is known. Teachers aren't beneath contempt, but the more people you tell, the more likely it is that it gets out. And the Lead Inspector definitely swears every one to secrecy in the final meeting.
