Ofsted outcomes

Ok, so were Offstood (I know that isn't the right past tense) and no one outside of SLT knows result. Is this normal? Last full inspection was years ago when we were told the next day but things may have changed. It's an odd feeling.

Wine and Chocolate for Piggy and any other recently-inspected. Bloody awful times.

School Ofsted in March, one day inspection, extended to two days, we weren’t told the outcome for over a month (a long month of intensely analysing the Head’s every word and expression for a clue!). Turns out we had retained our ‘good’ rating. I moved to a new school in Sept and we were inspected this week, one day inspection only so we are tentatively assuming we have retained our ‘good’ status also although it is utterly infuriating not to be actually told!

Ah right if it's only 1 school that makes more sense - it looked really odd when no 'above average' schools were inadequate!

I know Outstanding schools can be inspected, that's what I meant by being unlucky. When I was in an outstanding school that was inspected, it was triggered by concerns and they came in looking to downgrade.

Still, nearly 10 years since an inspection, there must be hardly any of the same staff there!

Noblegiraffe - even Oustanding schools get inspected. Generally if your results are good they’ll leave you alone for longer though.

The good progress/inadequate Ofsted would most likely be safeguarding issues, which can immediately put you into Special Measures.

That graph only shows judgements made in schools inspected since P8 came in. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

I guess those school have got a lot better since they were inspected and will be reinspected up to good ( in fact this would describe my DS's school)

We hadn't been done since 2008 , so knew we were due the minute our results appeared to dip.

It was only one school as the number of well above average schools inspected since the 2016 results were published was small. My guess would be serious safeguarding issues. There was also only one RI.

Why were you inspected if you were outstanding? Was it triggered by concerns or were you just unlucky?

I want to know more about the 5% of schools with well above average Progress 8 who are inadequate Confused

Report
Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 21:06

no , I agree. I am not sure we are!

But there are other factors to a school. We have a huge and very successful sixth form.

Attainment 8 is well above average .

Yada yada.

I fully expect good. I just want to see SLT's reactions really. And know what we will be expected to do as mere teachers as a result.

Basically, an average ish set of GCSE results isn't outstanding. Unless It's Alternative Provision, or somewhere with a really challenging cohort. When it might well be.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 21:01

Actually our GCSE results are very good. The P8 may not be great but the results are high, if you see what I mean.

No definitely no IGCSE!

It’s easier to show good KS4-5 progress when they do less well at GCSE though. Our ALPS used to be better when our GCSE results were worse. The sort of kids that used to get C grades now get B grades and the ones that used to get Bs now get As which pushes up the ALPS targets.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/11/2017 20:59

I can't see how that would be enough to keep Outstanding. Unless you have done an IGCSE in English or something crazy like that.

My School had ofsted last week. Previously we were outstanding and the inspectors only stayed for one day. SLT got all staff together and told us the inspection went well but we don't get an official rating for up to 5 weeks.

I don't know why they bother coming if they just do it on data really she mutters darkly.

Sorry, cross-posted. -0.13 isn’t so bad. You’ve probably still got a fair chance of being good. It’s highly unlikely to stay outstanding though.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 20:56

We have ALPS of 1 at A level though...

Better, but the school would have really struggled to make a case for Outstanding with a negative P8. DS's school is Good, no ECDL, P8 of 0.5.

Report
DumbledoresApprentice · 09/11/2017 20:53

At -1. something you’ll be “well below average”. The most likely outcome is “inadequate” “RI”. Good or better seems very unlikely. 97% of schools with “well below average” P8 have been less than good.

Report
Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 20:53

it's -0.13

Results were released a couple of weeks ago. I suspect timing is not coincidental then.

You can look it up here.

I’m not sure how ‘final’ the data is for 2017. If the P8 is below average though there’s pretty much no chance of staying outstanding. Not a single school with a below average P8 score in 2016 has been given an outstanding rating since the data came out and the chance of staying outstanding with an average P8 score is very slim.
