Ofsted outcomes

Ok, so were Offstood (I know that isn't the right past tense) and no one outside of SLT knows result. Is this normal? Last full inspection was years ago when we were told the next day but things may have changed. It's an odd feeling.

We were Ofstedded last week. Governors and SLT know the outcome, most staff don’t but our head said they should have figured it out. We had a two day inspection and were told report can take up to 28 working days. Single day section 5 reports are coming out in about a week here, by looking at inspection/publication dates on the Ofsted website.

HMI were very clear in the final meeting that the result must not go beyond those in the room until the report it published.

If you’re secondary then your school’s P8 score will give you a good idea of the rating you’re likely to get. If your score’s above average or well above average then it’s unlikely to be less than “good”. If your score’s below average then it’s unlikely to be better than “requires improvement”. This graph shows the correlation.

Our P8 score is quite controversial as we don't game the system (no 'European Driving Licence for us!). I don't know whether it is average or below average and am not sure the national data for this year has been properly benchmarked yet?

Lots of schools don't game. Average is 0. Confidence intervals are taken into account too. What was It?

-1. something

Here will give you where you sit against the average.

Ah. The floor target is -0.5...

I’m not sure how ‘final’ the data is for 2017. If the P8 is below average though there’s pretty much no chance of staying outstanding. Not a single school with a below average P8 score in 2016 has been given an outstanding rating since the data came out and the chance of staying outstanding with an average P8 score is very slim.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 20:50

I might be wrong then. Not sure.

Results were released a couple of weeks ago. I suspect timing is not coincidental then.

it's -0.13

At -1. something you’ll be “well below average”. The most likely outcome is “inadequate” “RI”. Good or better seems very unlikely. 97% of schools with “well below average” P8 have been less than good.

Report
TheFallenMadonna · 09/11/2017 20:54

Better, but the school would have really struggled to make a case for Outstanding with a negative P8. DS's school is Good, no ECDL, P8 of 0.5.

We have ALPS of 1 at A level though...

Sorry, cross-posted. -0.13 isn’t so bad. You’ve probably still got a fair chance of being good. It’s highly unlikely to stay outstanding though.

I don't know why they bother coming if they just do it on data really she mutters darkly.

My School had ofsted last week. Previously we were outstanding and the inspectors only stayed for one day. SLT got all staff together and told us the inspection went well but we don't get an official rating for up to 5 weeks.

Report
TheFallenMadonna · 09/11/2017 20:59

I can't see how that would be enough to keep Outstanding. Unless you have done an IGCSE in English or something crazy like that.

Report
DumbledoresApprentice · 09/11/2017 20:59

It’s easier to show good KS4-5 progress when they do less well at GCSE though. Our ALPS used to be better when our GCSE results were worse. The sort of kids that used to get C grades now get B grades and the ones that used to get Bs now get As which pushes up the ALPS targets.

Piggywaspushed · 09/11/2017 21:00

No definitely no IGCSE!

Actually our GCSE results are very good. The P8 may not be great but the results are high, if you see what I mean.

Basically, an average ish set of GCSE results isn't outstanding. Unless It's Alternative Provision, or somewhere with a really challenging cohort. When it might well be.

no , I agree. I am not sure we are!

But there are other factors to a school. We have a huge and very successful sixth form.

Attainment 8 is well above average .

Yada yada.

I fully expect good. I just want to see SLT's reactions really. And know what we will be expected to do as mere teachers as a result.

Why were you inspected if you were outstanding? Was it triggered by concerns or were you just unlucky?

I want to know more about the 5% of schools with well above average Progress 8 who are inadequate Confused

Report
DumbledoresApprentice · 09/11/2017 21:15

It was only one school as the number of well above average schools inspected since the 2016 results were published was small. My guess would be serious safeguarding issues. There was also only one RI.
