Do you think Harry can be deported from the United States?

The Heritage foundation wants details about Harry's status.

The court has ordered the government to release the records, giving them a week to do it.

Is it likely they will do so, or will they go to court themselves to overturn that? I know Harry's (former) royal position means there might be some political will in his favour, but would it be enough for them to challenge rather than just comply?

PicturesOfDogs · 07/06/2023 08:49

Oh wow.

I really didn’t expect to see anything happen with this one

I’m not reading that. I’ve read that the judge has given the DHS a week to respond. (Not that it has a week to hand over the visa application).

I googled it, and this telegraph article came up in google

However when you click into the article it is amended.

Thanks

I only really know about US court procedures from TV crime shows, which doesn't really help with a case of this kind, and I suspect that there will be quite a lot of sloppily written articles about what's going on (and I must have tripped over one of them)

So it looks as though this one will go quiet for a week, awaiting response

Wow! The American justice system is pretty impartial I would say. Good for them.

No, the gvnt has been given a week to respond I think.

CathyorClaire · 13/06/2023 10:17

Decision due today.

I'm anticipating a shitstorm whichever way it goes.

Morestrangerthings · 13/06/2023 10:23

Would a lot Americans take much notice if they did release the visa documents? Just interested.

That would rather depend on both what the documents say (if released) and how much interest there is in Harry in the States (hard to gauge sometimes from UK - where of course it's all overshadowed by other court cases)

LadyMuckingabout · 15/06/2023 10:18

So, either he did admit drug use and he was waved in anyway, or he denied drug use in which case he lied either to Immigration or in Spare.

Immigration applications are, however, confidential and if Harry’s is released then I should think every single non-US rock star will be having kittens, if they’ve written a rock’n’roll memoir.

PicturesOfDogs · 15/06/2023 10:32

Not surprised, they were never going to release it imo

michaelmacrae · 15/06/2023 17:19

Glad to hear it. No reason why the US govt should bow down to some right-wing pressure group with a frivolous claim.

recsw · 15/06/2023 19:45

The right wing applicants are awful, but still have the rigth to legal process. The law should be the same for all of us whether it suits us or not.

Jk987 · 15/06/2023 19:48

No way. Nor should anyone with a history of minor drug use. Half the country should be deported otherwise!

recsw · 15/06/2023 19:53

I think some immigrants are held to a different standard

The right wing applicants are awful, but still have the rigth to legal process.

Why? They have not shown any evidence that they have suffered personal harm from Harry. The DHS is correct there.

The law should be the same for all of us whether it suits us or not

Yes. So why should only one person's visa files be exposed to the world and everybody else's not?

I don't see the HF demanding "transparency" when it comes to any of Trump's misdemeanours for example. Only a benign foreign prince with a grudge against their media friends.

recsw · 15/06/2023 20:25

So the DHS follows legal process and the end result willfollow legal process. Surely that;s right? The applicants can challenge and it will be heard and struck down legally if that is what the law says

Anyone and everyone is allowed to make a legal challenge. No-one should be above that in any way

recsw · 15/06/2023 20:30

And Trump's critics should be able to bring legal challenges against him that are upheld or dismissed according tot he law
