Ironically a swan song is believed to be someone's last act; their last piece of work or performance.

But that would be way over Meghan’s head 😆

You have no proof to claim that it was sent to solely to MM - the Met said it was sent to the Office of Harry & Meghan. I am asking, not claiming nor assuming other royal officials may have seen the letter.

It wasn’t a personal correspondence sent to MM it was sent to directly to LE - I doubt it was sent on to MM as a private note from her DF ex wife of 44 years - it was considered a sufficient security issue by the Met to involve the Office of H&M. In any other workplace if police became aware of a security issue to an employee in a company I would imagine they would alert others in that company to be informed about the threat to their employee. All I am asking is what did royal officials know and do on receipt of this information. Declining to comment looks shady to me.

Well, there's one person why can clear up who saw it back then, who was told about it, who provided advice, what was done about it, if it was logged according to the office policies etc. (but she can't even remember what year she received it).

Why should the RF bother to provide this info when MM - who opened this particular can of worms - hasn't?

The reach here seems to be to get the RF on the hook for doing something wrong - which will then translate into "letting poor Meghan down".

Who do you think it is that she hasn't provided this info? Holding out for a pay-day no-details-spared interview with The Sun probably.

I agree BP owe MM nothing now but as any institution be it a school, scout camp, workplace when an allegation of such serious nature lands on your desk you have an obligation to deal with it as per your in-house policies or any other legal or best practice requirements.

It might be that ‘it was logged and we took the direction of The Met Police’ - so there would be a paper trail for 2019 when H&M were WRF members and the Met considered it sufficient security risk to share with H&M Office - even if this stopped at H&M and their private secretary or head of security.

It was sent to the Sussex head of security and discussed directly with Meghan as a potential security threat. We have no idea what Meghan and Harry chose to do about it after this.

Early 2019 was the time when HAM had ceased cooperation with KP and had hired/were in the process of hiring their own team. Only HAM know who they chose to involve in this matter and whether staff members are subject to NDAs.

Very apt for earl Spencer then!

I was very relieved, when going to Waterstone's this weekend, to find the pile of 'Swan Song' (which hadn't been shifting at all from what I could tell on my frequent visits) had been relegated from a table just inside the door to the normal shelves

Meg would have most likely, set out in her statement, those supporting and informing her decisions at that time. That would have involved naming KP if that included them.

Its telling that she hasn’t. Doesn’t mean it’s fact, but in the absence of anything else, and knowing how quickly she’s willing to throw the RF under the bus, it’s more likely than not.

BP/KP saying this has nothing to do with them, is pretty clear that there’s no involvement. They can’t risk lying over this, especially in the wake of AMW.

I suspect that their current main drive of reconciliation with the RF has ensured that she doesn’t reference the RF at all. She won’t throw them under the bus until the penny drops she’s never getting on the bus ever again. Shes nothing but self serving in every tactical manoeuvre.

BP/KP have not said it is nothing to do with them and that they had no involvement.

The letter doesn't even say anything specific or contain any indication of criminal activity. It just claims Thomas Markle said something in what appears to be an argument with his ex-wife.

The real question for me is why didn't Meghan confront her father and ask him if there is any basis for this claim. Instead, she simply cut him off, just like that, on the basis of an unsubstantiated claim by his angry ex-wife.

She'd already cut him off, though.

I think that she had already cut him off hadn't she?

Summer 2018 when she asked him to stop going to the press?

One thing that stands out is that HaM took a Freedom Flight to the USA.

While living there they had access to Governor Newsom, M cold called Senators, M visited former first lady and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, HaMs interacted with NYPD regarding their "near-catastrophic car chase," among other interactions.

And in none of these interactions did the HaMs inform US lawmakers, politicians or police of their suspicions about the activities of Markle Senior, a US citizen? Not even calling the FBI tip line?

Quite the choice, considering they felt free to screech endlessly about tights and lipgloss.

Isn't her social worker mother also a mandated reporter?

She'd already cut him off, though.

She doesn't seem to need an excuse to cut people off. Perhaps she thought that as this is her DF a valid and unanswerable excuse needed to be cooked up rather than just cutting contact.

TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow · Today 15:14

What would this mean for Harry and Meghan if Harry hadn’t been told about the letter. Not that I think he hasn’t. But what if he hadn’t?

There’s some confusion as to whether she is a qualified social worker or someone did a social work course.

Isn't that also the time when she initially said she received the letter? Before having to grudgingly admit that she got the 'dates' wrong?

Almost as if she was leaping on a chance to 'vindicate' her going no contact.

Yes, you are right! Wow. If Meghan didn't tell her mum about the 2019 and 2025 letters, Doria's off the hook. But if M did tell her and Doria never alerted the authorities in the US after TMS moved back to Florida then yes, her mum could be accused of committing a criminal offence in not reporting.

i can hardly keep up with these threads! As a complete aside I’m picturing Charles Spencer, sat in his library by candlelight, thinking “but what about my book?” Sad times.

A lovely image! It'll be pulped fiction fairly soon. it doesn't seem to be flying off the shelves anywhere.

I think she was involved in 'elder care', as it's called in the US? I don't think she was a SW in the gritty sense that it has in the UK.

Happy to be corrected!

There was a post a few days ago that said she wasn’t a qualified social worker as she hadn’t done all of the elements for registration.

There have been several differing accounts of Doria's credentialing, so I am unsure if she was actually a mandated reporter.

But if Doria was a licensed social worker at the time these allegations emerged she would have been a mandated reporter.

ChubbyCheeksCharlie · Today 15:22

I've had to jump a few pages of squabbling so apologies if I've missed anything important.
My current theories, all alleged, of course, zero evidence:

  • MM and TMJ (+The Sun?) make very serious claims publicly but "tamper" (create?) any possible "evidence" (creations?) so no one will ever know whether TMS was a paedophile, whether TMJ was a paedophile or if the whole thing was invented for publicity.
  • MM may have known in advance but equally may have invented the detail in letters to back up the "big reveal". Edited to add: if MM invented it, I think it would have been to explain away the NC with her father.
  • Harry may have known the content of letters but may not (personally I think MM prob has lots of secrets from him). He could be seriously questioning things now or he could be finding an escape (I'd definitely be on the booze myself).
  • MM may have decided a divorce was necessary but realised there would be no big payout and any payout linked to an NDA, so may have colluded with her beloved brother to make money in this way instead.

Have I missed anything?
This is for those of us who are finding it hard to believe a word of it.
(And huge sympathies to victims of CSA who must be reeling from all this being played out so salaciously in the tabloids and broadsheets).

Starryfifty · Today 15:23

I don't think she ever worked as a social worker. It's all very vague, surprisingly

diddl · Today 15:23

Almost as if she was leaping on a chance to 'vindicate' her going no contact.

Tbh it reads that way to me also.

I think the way he was running to the press he was already losing credibility & no one would have blamed her for distancing.

wordler · Today 15:23

For me the problem with the 2018/19 letter is that at the time it would most likely have been viewed as potentially just someone trying to smear Meghan’s father to put Meghan in the middle of a scandal.

Think about that time. The amount of publicity and online gossip and speculation was huge. We know there were some serious death threats from right wing crazies. The Markles were relentless from the wedding on with talking to the press - Samanther and Markle senior the worst.

In the midst of all that one hand written letter alleging CSA by Meghan’s father ends up with the MET.

Any investigation by UK police would have been focused on the threat posed by the letter writer not Meghan’s father.

At best they could have forwarded the letter to American authorities. Maybe someone did investigate that possibility but Markle senior was living abroad and the claims were decades old - they would also have considered why the person claiming to know about these crimes hadn’t simply reported to the local police.

I suspect any MET investigation would have been into the credibility of the letter writer and any reputational threat that posed to the Duchess of Sussex. As nothing ever came out in public no further investigation needed would have been the conclusion.

Neil Sean says that Megan is negotiating an interview with the Sun and another media source that is helping to finance it.

Wow, the Sun's a bit of a comedown from OW!
