She should have kept quiet and issued a "shocked and distressed" statement.

This is the problem or her, and her PR Liam's, tendency to pursue aggressive "clapbacks" - they speak before they have fully assessed the consequences. When he was appointed I remember discussion online about whether Liam's "pugnacious", "forthright" and "robust" for of PR was really suited to the type of diplomatic nuances they would need - and now we see the outcome.

Nobody knew about the letter apart from M who clearly had it easily available. The Met couldn't remember it. Why did she feel the need to rush to the Sun to say "Well I've known about this for 8 years but never spoke out" when she's accused so many people directly and indirectly in her interviews over the years. It was a bad idea to jump straight into the scandal.

I think it shows you she clearly panicked and shes maybe not comfortable about at how she had handled everything, so is already trying to formulate excuses. Which at the moment, is amounting to laying the blame at the Mets door.

This doesn’t sound like it’s from someone confident that they took all necessary steps and that their conscience is clear.

I mean she’s been reduced to giving her story to the Sun, they had her over a barrel clearly.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 12:13

I wonder if it occurs to anyone in the Markle/Sun camp that they have very possibly scuppered any chance of criminal proceedings against whoever that material belongs to? and if they have, are they proud of themselves?

Kingsandqueenz · Yesterday 12:14

And now they are back with their tails between their legs desperately begging for reconciliation...

A PP kindly posted a chart show ages of consent in the USA states. They all range between 16 and 18. California is 18.

I’m sorry, I’ve realised I confused that chart with states where girls can marry when they are young. Though o know most states that did allow it have now outlawed the practice. I would never wish to offend you so once again my apologies. I only realised when another poster mentioned Scotland and I wondered why.

MM probably doesn’t even know about Hillsborough - not sure what’s it’s like now, but you wouldn’t want to have been walking round Liverpool with a copy of The Sun not that long ago (obviously many other reasons to vilify The Sun apart from that)

I searched for examples of the Sun scraping the bottom of the barrel. So very many. It once ran a story that AIDS was a hoax. What is Meg thinking?

Yes, that's what I was thinking. How can there be a fair trial?

Noseyoldcow · Yesterday 12:24

Even if there were a trial, would Markle Senior be fit to plead?

Lunde · Yesterday 12:25

The Philippine Police say the review of materials will be completed next week - that doesn't seem very long or thorough

The same thought occurred to me, @MrsFinkelstein, and with notoriously corrupt Philippino agencies, the Scum and the Markles involved it's getting to the point where I'd believe nothing until it's actually proved

I see the trash rag is now claiming Roslyn wrote that Markle Snr travelled for the "12 year olds", which is clearly appalling if true, but how the hell is the Scum accessing these alleged letters anyway? It's hardly usual for material likely to be needed for a prosecution to be shared with slavering hacks, so what exactly is going on here??

M must be briefing them

Several of her WhatsApp group of friendly journalists claim to have been shown copies

AtIusvue · Yesterday 12:26

That’s was the desperation then, 3 years ago. He will be even more desperate now to get back into the fold.

The fact that even then he didn’t realise he had totally ruined, forever, the relationships with his family is mind boggling.

That he is still bleating about reconciliation now, is just really sad and pathetic.

nicegreenwillow · Yesterday 12:26

Noseyoldcow · Yesterday 12:24

I doubt it. Plus, as we've said, the Sun and TMj could easily have tampered with the evidence.

It's got nothing to do with Buckingham Palace. Harry & Meghan left the Royal Family, they aren't working royals, get invited to no Royal events or family gatherings.

The royal family owe H&M nothing they are gone, they decided to leave, they chose to be private citizens years ago.

People like Chris Ship and others need to remember this - and all the bile spewed out by the pair.

Btw can someone help me out - some people have said that MM has been working with The Sun - where is the absolute proof of this?

Several of the WhatsApp group of HAM-friendly journalists have said they have been shown copies of the letters - they have even quoted from the letter M sent TM in 2025

Given that no-one knows who the stash belongs to - and there is mor than one candidate - that might have been the desired outcome. With the added benefit that it gives the 82-year-old no chance of clearing his name, if it wasn't his.

readbutdonotpostoften · Yesterday 12:29

It did cross my mind that TMsnr may have been/or has written a book or provided material for a book, even just articles for some media outlet. Could the advance pay for Florida health costs? In the book there is info about all his children - TMjnr got wind of it and has struck first?

nicegreenwillow · Yesterday 12:29

God almighty, I can't believe they're working with the Sun, of all the awful publications! Hypocrisy, for people who claim to be on the side of social justice.

BemusedAmerican · Yesterday 12:31

Neil Sean says that Megan is negotiating an interview with the Sun and another media source that is helping to finance it.

That's probably exactly what they do want. Mud sticking and trial by tabloid, without the unedifying prospect of a very public court case where the Markle siblings would be likely key witnesses.

edit to add: I've seen some Sun apologists (incl Tom Sykes) saying that the Parks fellow from the Sun is a highly respected war reporter or some such, so we should believe what they are telling us. I'm afraid anyone who deliberately contaminates evidence by breaking the chain of custody of evidence (let alone publishing it prejudicially pre trial/investigation) does not get my respect.

Lady C set up a GoFundMe for Thomas Markle. Maybe that is paying for the nursing home.

Do you think it was timed with the Sun for it to come out Thursday evening because many kids break up for the Oct holiday on the Friday 23rd- many kids don’t do the half day, already travelling.

That the Sussex’s were able to make their exit to Portugal.

Could you imagine all this coming out with the kids at school. I think this was organised to allow the kids to be somewhat protected.

Which makes you think how much time had Meg had ahead of this. Not that it did her PR strategy any good!

Edited

Neil Sean - who seems to have good industry sources - said in his podcast on Friday that the story was originally slated for publication on Sunday (yesterday) but the Sun published early.

I think the most likely reason would be that there was a leak or that somebody they asked to comment (possibly HAM or their team) attempted to scoop them and publish their version first.
