The royal family

Harry & Meghan - what does the future hold?

I’m not really sure whether I can articulate this very well, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I think I support a route for Harry and Meghan to find a route back into the fold of the royal family, and find that odd and conflicting given everything that has happened.

I found the Oprah interview, the freedom flight, the Spare revelations awful. It felt really unpleasant the way Meghan came into the royal family, was active for so little time and then criticised it all so publicly and in a way that seemed a bit of a cultural miss (I’m not referring to the racism allegations here). I think that her American mindset perhaps did not fully understand the tacit consent nature of the royal family and the constitutional delicacies with which the titles are held. This is why it makes commercialisation and speaking at round tables about ‘power’, jarring.

However, despite ALL of this this, I see two human beings. One man who has grown up, without any consent, in a strange institution, in the glare of the spotless, completely traumatised by the death of his mother in horrendous circumstances when he was a young boy. A veteran too. Although not comparable to this, Meghan clearly has also had a dysfunctional childhood too. These latest revelations around her father mean that from the outside, none of us really know what’s going on.

I would like them all to just be happy. I feel like collectively it would be awesome as a nation if we could give the family the framework to sort it all out by just saying ‘look, H&M, you did some crazy shit, it was hugely damaging and cruel. But we understand that you guys have gone through crap too. Let’s look forward- try and sort it out’.

I’d honestly like to be done with the drama and for everyone to just get on. Does anyone else feel like this? I know it doesn’t really work like this in practice, I’m just trying to get across how I’m feeling.

Please also try and be a bit kind in your responses. I think this is coming from a place where everything just feels really negative/heavy in life at the moment and the need for some positivity,

The majority would to Elizabeth II. Most people would have bowed or curtesied as its a cultural and good manners respectful thing. She represented our country and thats who you are being respectful to.

Many people did not curtsy to her over the years. It isn’t cultural at all. It only applies to the royal family and it’s ridiculous, and Meghan found it ridiculous. But did it anyway. I cannot see the issue.

It was not culturally insensitive. Many Brits couldn’t give a flying fuck about the royals.

But many many people do care in the UK. Shown by the huge sadness when the Queen died. She was head of state (and of other countries too) and represented the country. Thats what you are being respectful to. MM didnt need to curtesy of course. But she didnt need to mock people that do. It would be like a British person refusing to stand and sing the Star Spangled Banner while in the US and then taking the piss out of anyone that does. Highly offensive to many.

Brace yourself and have some pearls ready if needed or even salts of ammonia in a cut glass bottle.

I don’t think there’s any way the RF could have them back, even if on a personal level they wanted to, which they definitely don’t. They are so unpopular, so demonstrably unsuited to serving the country, Meghan using photos with sick children and survivors of a terrorist atrocity to sell clothes, now using this story about child abuse to advertise her candles and bookmarks, Harry the drug user and racist embarrassing himself with his geopolitical pronouncements, slapping the arses and tweaking the nipples of strangers, squeezing as much money out of his mother’s death as possible. They have deliberately undermined the RF and its senior members for years, sharing all sorts of private information about others while whinging about their own privacy. They are both proven liars, having both lied in court. Harry accused a judge of corruption. They claimed the Archbishop of Canterbury had performed an illegal marriage.

The RF already have their work cut out managing Andrew. Charles and William want a smaller set up. There’s absolutely nothing for the RF to gain by allowing these two back, even if they liked them.

Absolutely agree with this

It was culturally highly insensitive!

A major misjudgment by M and wow…dim H knows it, from his expression, but is too wimpy to stop it.

There is no rehabilitating these two. Ever.

They've shown themselves to be egotistical money hungry lazy wasters, who will use sick children and wounded veterans to their own gain.

Not to mention disaster zone tourism and being utterly incapable of telling the truth about anything.

Ah well. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

I have seen it before but I’ve just watched it again. She’s taking the piss out of herself.

Hmmm. May I just remind you that she is one half of a couple who have returned to the UK and seem hell bent on carrying out "Royal" engagements one way or the other. So "taking the piss out of herself" as you have perceived it, by mocking one of the Royal conventions isn't the brightest of moves, is it?

How do you think it could possibly be positive? I'd be interested to hear suggestions!

from the OP. they asked for positivity.

i am saying that will never happen on mn

I didn’t notice any huge sadness. There were the people who went and queued and there’s no denying that it was the end of an era, but most people weren’t personally sad.

Why? lots of other people have represented our country over the years, particularly in the fields of the arts, sports and entertainment and nobody curtsies to them. Many of them have achieved great things through talent and hard work and we are not expected to genuflect to them. But we are meant to bow and scrape to royaltly simply because they arrived in the world from the "right" womb or married the "right " person.

In which culture do you curtsy to your partner’s granny?

Mocking her attempt to curtsy and it becoming too low?

Erm? The culture of the royal family, which Meghan willingly married into.

Do you think Harry thought it was ignorant to follow the protocol?

You stance on this is obtuse. The Royal family is an institution. Like all institutions, it has its own customs. Curtsying is one.

Butteredtoast55 · 24/10/2026 15:11

I too want them to be happy, but not at the expense of others. They've proven to be deceitful, cruel and untrustworthy. They really can't be trusted.
You cannot assume they would be reintegrated into the RF (which, in any case, would be at total odds with what they've said about living this way) and not cause complete mayhem again. I mean, let's face it, they're still causing mayhem now and will tread on anyone in their efforts to be top of the pile (for clarification, I'm not referring to the latest developments with Thomas Markle but to their return to the UK).

I can't imagine what Meghan is going through right now, and it must be awful for her to be doing so seemingly short of friends and family, but that doesn't mean either of them would welcome the support of Harry's family. In fact, sadly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this isn't eventually spun as another way they let H&M down.
I think it's a terribly sad situation, but the best thing they can do is find purposeful and meaningful roles outside of faux royal existence (which TBF Meghan has tried to do, albeit trading off royal adjacency), love and focus on their children and try to be grateful and respectful of their enormously privileged position. Otherwise they'll never move forward.

What about older people who were her contemporaries in the war for example? You must have had your head under a rock.

Mocking her attempt to curtsy and it becoming too low?

Was she mocking herself when she had someone introduce her to an empty room?

Took a made up surname and admonished a friend for not using it?

TheHatTrick · 24/10/2026 15:13

Commissioned a logo for herself with an M and a crown?

Signed a note to a friend with HRH?

TheHatTrick · 24/10/2026 15:14

Oh my word! People were sad globally when Queen Elizabeth passed away.

valeriy2 · 24/10/2026 15:14

Meghan in hindsight was mad to marry into this monarchy something I assume she knows now all too well. But the Wales children will go through hell if they ever decide to go to University. I can't see in the world of mobile phones and big money for media that they will be able to live any sort of normal life. It's cruel now at least in the old times they could do pretend jobs and appear useful unnoticed by most.

That's inspired an As ever product idea. Tattoo transfers of her Royal cipher, the As ever logo and aphorisms in her distinctive script. The Sussex Squad would buy them and apply them.

Just take a look at the inane look on her face - it tells you all you need to know.

Could I also remind you about Sarah, Duchess of York? Whilst visiting the USA she 'knighted' a friend's dog with a dinner knife. Look how that ended!

We expect high standards from representatives of our country and M doesn't seem to understand how to behave respectfully.

CoffeeCantata · 24/10/2026 15:16

On the topic of the OP, I just don’t understand why anyone, Team HaM or RF sympathisers, wants HaM to reconcile and return to royal life. Can anyone explain?

They loathed being in the royal gilded cage and have gone on about how awful it was on many occasions. They say their rellies are racists.

Go back to the US, HaM, and use your millions to live a comfortable private life.

You are not wanted in the UK.
