The royal family

Harry & Meghan - what does the future hold?

I’m not really sure whether I can articulate this very well, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I think I support a route for Harry and Meghan to find a route back into the fold of the royal family, and find that odd and conflicting given everything that has happened.

I found the Oprah interview, the freedom flight, the Spare revelations awful. It felt really unpleasant the way Meghan came into the royal family, was active for so little time and then criticised it all so publicly and in a way that seemed a bit of a cultural miss (I’m not referring to the racism allegations here). I think that her American mindset perhaps did not fully understand the tacit consent nature of the royal family and the constitutional delicacies with which the titles are held. This is why it makes commercialisation and speaking at round tables about ‘power’, jarring.

However, despite ALL of this this, I see two human beings. One man who has grown up, without any consent, in a strange institution, in the glare of the spotless, completely traumatised by the death of his mother in horrendous circumstances when he was a young boy. A veteran too. Although not comparable to this, Meghan clearly has also had a dysfunctional childhood too. These latest revelations around her father mean that from the outside, none of us really know what’s going on.

I would like them all to just be happy. I feel like collectively it would be awesome as a nation if we could give the family the framework to sort it all out by just saying ‘look, H&M, you did some crazy shit, it was hugely damaging and cruel. But we understand that you guys have gone through crap too. Let’s look forward- try and sort it out’.

I’d honestly like to be done with the drama and for everyone to just get on. Does anyone else feel like this? I know it doesn’t really work like this in practice, I’m just trying to get across how I’m feeling.

Please also try and be a bit kind in your responses. I think this is coming from a place where everything just feels really negative/heavy in life at the moment and the need for some positivity,

I also disagree with you op, your focus is purely on Harry and Megan and rhe public forgiving and you completely and utterly fail to recognise the people they hurt, his family, with lies, exaggerations and private information and they sold it, for high sums, spite, revenge for not getting their own way and fame,

they count too, there is no way back for them, neither should there be,

what they need to do is stop trying to be famous, stop trying to get as much media attention as they can, they have plenty of money, just go and live their lives as private citizens, do charity work they don’t seek publicity for, raise their kids.

but they need to stop, the responsibility for their own happiness is in their hands, and riding rough shod over the damage they caused and expecting his family to just take it is incredibly narrow minded, there are more parties in this than the public and them.

the people they hurt should have the loudest voice and you took that voice away

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/10/2026 12:51

When people say "will Harry and Meghan ever be accepted back into the fold of the royal family", they really need to explain what they mean, because back in the fold of the royal family could mean two different things.

Do you mean that, in their private lives, Charles and William will reconcile with Harry? Not necessarily to go back to how things used to be, but to have a relationship of some kind again, however distant. That's up to them and isn't our business really. Perhaps for Harry's kids' sake, it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to have very occasional contact with their grandfather, uncle and cousins.

If you mean bringing Harry and Meghan back into the royal fold, with them performing official royal duties, appearing on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, doing the Sandringham Christmas walk, that kind of thing, I think that's wholly undesirable and very unlikely to ever happen.

CoffeeCantata · 24/10/2026 12:51

No way back.

Not everything is reversible or mendable. Life's not a soppy film with a redemption scene.

They made stupid decisions, they used malice and lies to defame their relations (H's relations), and that was made far worse because of the status of his family. They in effect damned the current HoS and the future Queen of the UK as racists...and the rest.

They've done crappy, tasteless things to gain attention (grief tourism and exploitation) and they've worn out the goodwill of many wealthy friends through grifting and scrounging and expecting handouts.

They're getting on now - both middle-aged. No longer wide-eyed, helpless young things.

Sorry - no way back. They need to take their considerable wealth and find a way to live quietly and wisely with their children. They are lucky, lucky, lucky compared to most people on this planet.

i have to ask op. why start tis thread? it will just go the way any thread about them goes.
it will not be positive.....see pp.

How do you think it could possibly be positive? I'd be interested to hear suggestions!

I think when you resign from a job, you can’t continue to enjoy its benefits or expect to get it back. Life is a one-way journey and they need to move forward, learn lessons from their mistakes and regrets, then make better decisions.

They are now, of their own choosing, private individuals who are closely related to the royal family and have aristocratic titles, but they are not part of the royal fold.

With that in mind, I would advise them to live an entirely private life for a good five years or more. This means choosing a private career. I’m sure Charles would find any education or training required and any shortfall in reasonable day-to-day living costs to help them succeed in a new private career.

Before doing that, however, I think they’d do well to publicly acknowledge how badly they messed up, how they lashed out because they couldn’t have their cake and eat it, how they told lies about Harry’s family and the British public and how they convinced themselves these lies were true. They should say they now understand that the Sandringham agreement was reasonable, that their paranoia was unfounded and that they deeply regret the hurt they caused to so many people, including Harry’s grandparents and his brother and Catherine.

In essence, they need to make an unreserved apology, then vanish and do something worthwhile for a good chunk of time. Maybe until their kids have grown up.

They are not related to the Royal Family. They are members of the Royal Family.

Maybe they aren’t lying.

How do you know they aren’t racist?

Ho do you know anyone isn't racist? It's notoriously hard to prove a negative, as I'm sure you area aware.

It depends who you want to believe and I believe KC and C were character-assassinated by Meghan, and by Harry, because of both HaM's crazy jealousy. They have been shown to have lied and lied again over many issues.

I don't believe KC or C are racists. I think H probably was, though.

I know H & M are habitual liers.

You pays your money and you takes your pick.

What's the difference between being related to someone, and being a member of the family? Dumb comment.

Of course they were lying. Are you not aware of their record on lying over the last 7 years?

AlwaysRightISwear · 24/10/2026 11:37

I do think the latest revelation may help to explain how Meghan became the person she is.

But she and Harry both seem to be such damaged individuals I don't think there is a place for them in public life.

There never could be. H has shown himself to be a major security risk - he could never be trusted in official/royal roles again.

He will blab about anything and anyone for dollars. You can't do that and expect to have an official role. He's made his bed...he'll have to lie on it! After all, he got the freedom he so wanted, so he needs to settle down and enjoy his millions with his family. Of course M & H can live happily and comfortably - but that's not what they want. They want fame, attention, status, adulation.

I don't think there is any appetite from the general public to see them back in the RF.
I'm sure some sort of low key role could be found in the Military - Not promoting himself or talking about his 'experiences' but actually a proper job. Could he get involved in the recruitment of cadets/promoting the Army as a career choice for Commonwealth citizens or something like that? I think he'd get more respect doing 'service' in a role like that rather than jetting round the world talking about mental health or sustainable travel (!). I don't see M interested in a role like that though

What have they lied about?

Well, shall we begin with them saying they got married in their back yard 3 days before the wedding we all witnessed at Windsor. This put the Archbishop of Canterbury in a very difficult position as he had to contradict their story as it would have been illegal for him to have conducted a wedding in the way they described

We could then move on to the New York car chase which caused a lot of embarrassment for the Mayor & New York police who inevitably got caught up in the story

We could talk about Meghan's claim to only wear beige whilst being a working royal despite being photographed in a full rainbow of other colours

Do you want me to carry on?

Another dig at the media? the same media who have written awful articles about her from being estranged from her father. 🙄 yeah to bloody right so she should.

Well, quite.

And now look what’s happened. She’s inserted herself into something that has absolutely nothing to do with her, and now it’s her who is facing questions.

The Met have issued a statement confirming that they received a letter about Thomas in January 2019, not 2018 as she claimed. Naturally, this has led people to question the accuracy of her statement, as well as raising further questions about the “Dear Daddy” letter and whether she shared those details with other organisations amongst other things.

In her determination to get her own narrative out before anyone else and stick two fingers up at the press, she appears to have rushed ahead without properly checking her facts or considering the potential inconsistencies, contradictions and inevitable follow up questions her claims might generate.

And that’s her biggest problem. In her desperation to control the narrative and get ahead of the press, she undermines her own credibility. Instead of achieving what she intended, she’s potentially opened up an entirely new can of worms for people to scrutinise.

Sometimes, silence really is the best response.

Oh please....you'll have to do your own research.

Start with the OW interview....there are quite a few beauties in that.

Then Spare. I never watched the awful ND documentary, so can't comment on that.

Thanks, Majestic - I don't know how many times Sussex supporters have had me typing this stuff out for them.

Where have they been for the last 6 years? It's been out in the public domain for ages, just how many bloopers (er, that's putting a kind interpretation on it..) and outright bollocksing lies the pair told in the OW interview.

Than Harry claiming he was somewhere he wasn't at the QM's death, and the rest.

How do you know when Meghan and Harry are lying? Simple - it's when their lips are moving.

I think reconciliation would only be possible if there were genuine apologies and solid evidence that they have changed.

They have had 6 years to show that they have changed and with every move they prove they have not.

How could William and Catherine ever trust them? Every meeting or phone call would have them walking on eggshells, wondering if it would appear later in a book or interview in some twisted form. Who could live like that?

IdaGlossop · 24/10/2026 14:14

Whatever the truth of the Thomas Markel Sr CSA story (and we may never know what happened), it will not change any of the lies of the last eight years. It will not change the spectacle of the Netflix curtsy. It will not change the high staff turnover since they got together. It will not change the arrogance of 'Service is universal' or 'They both hate the phrase 'working royals''. It will not change Prince William and the Edinburghs arriving at Balmoral too late to say 'good-bye' to QEII because Harry was arguing with his father about Meghan not being allowed to accompany him.

I just wish they’d return back to the US. I’m still not sure why they’re here, but imagine it’s either some sick payback attempt - wanting to be on the inside of the Uk pissing out instead of outside pissing in, as being outside wasn’t working for them. Or the money was running out in the US and they think more money can be made over here. I liked and supported their initial want for privacy, and pictured them living in America in their nice private bubble, just living their lives.
