The royal family

Harry & Meghan - what does the future hold?

Bluejumperdog · 24/10/2026 09:38

I’m not really sure whether I can articulate this very well, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I think I support a route for Harry and Meghan to find a route back into the fold of the royal family, and find that odd and conflicting given everything that has happened.

I found the Oprah interview, the freedom flight, the Spare revelations awful. It felt really unpleasant the way Meghan came into the royal family, was active for so little time and then criticised it all so publicly and in a way that seemed a bit of a cultural miss (I’m not referring to the racism allegations here). I think that her American mindset perhaps did not fully understand the tacit consent nature of the royal family and the constitutional delicacies with which the titles are held. This is why it makes commercialisation and speaking at round tables about ‘power’, jarring.

However, despite ALL of this this, I see two human beings. One man who has grown up, without any consent, in a strange institution, in the glare of the spotless, completely traumatised by the death of his mother in horrendous circumstances when he was a young boy. A veteran too. Although not comparable to this, Meghan clearly has also had a dysfunctional childhood too. These latest revelations around her father mean that from the outside, none of us really know what’s going on.

I would like them all to just be happy. I feel like collectively it would be awesome as a nation if we could give the family the framework to sort it all out by just saying ‘look, H&M, you did some crazy shit, it was hugely damaging and cruel. But we understand that you guys have gone through crap too. Let’s look forward- try and sort it out’.

I’d honestly like to be done with the drama and for everyone to just get on. Does anyone else feel like this? I know it doesn’t really work like this in practice, I’m just trying to get across how I’m feeling.

Please also try and be a bit kind in your responses. I think this is coming from a place where everything just feels really negative/heavy in life at the moment and the need for some positivity,

Did The Wales's tell you this over Sunday lunch yesterday? You cannot know what other people will do (unless they did tell you themselves!).

Again, it is up to them whether or not they forgive and/or reconcile.

But how do you think they can achieve forgiveness and/or reconciliation given the circumstances they're in?

This is a genuine question as I can't see what the mechanism is for achieving it

GoodGirlFaith · Today 13:47

If we all limited our comments here to what we know, as opposed to what we think based on intelligent (or otherwise, in many cases) observation, very few people would have standing to say anything.

I agree. It's really why speculation is pointless. None of us know what will happen. I enjoy speculating because I have always enjoyed most things Royal family related.

I was answering the poster who had written factually about what they think will happen.

'William & Catherine's decision & they will absolutely protect their children from H&M as an absolute priority.' etc..

There is not 1 'I think' in there, hence my reply.

If they wish to reconcile as a family, they will. If they wish to reconcile publicly, they will.

I don't know how else to explain it? Have you never forgiven someone? King Charles is 'Defender of Faiths'; the faithful generally forgive.

Just like old times!

I'm against blood sports and will defend Jeff if anyone sets the hounds on him!

Standard deflection as per usual 🙄

Or possibly a wish to keep things on topic, and not resort to personal attacks?

Private forgiveness is not the same as throwing their arms around each other in public, or allowing H to return to how things were before. I'm sure KC hopes for some kind of rapprochement with H before his death, but that will be on a very private level, I'm sure. In fact, I bet that will be a condition of it happening at all. No photos, no tweets, no interviews.

I don't see forgiveness for Meghan - no-one in the RF is invested in her at all.

But H can forget a public re-instatement. Not happening, not possible.

As for William - that level of betrayal and cruelty to his wife cannot be forgotten or even forgiven. I think forgiveness can be over-rated, personally. H has destroyed that relationship - he did it, and he needs to understand the depth of the damage he did.

I do agree with you about people of faith and forgiveness

But I also feel, from the facts we know, that H&M are not the sort of people who study their own behaviour, think "Goodness, we were wrong", apologise and modify their behaviour so they don't repeat previous mistakes

And I also feel W&C have been badly hurt, have had to deal with C's serious illness, have concentrated on their family life and their work and have moved on from what happened so have little if anything to gain from a reconciliation with H&M

So I honestly don't understand how you think reconciliation can be achieved. You say if they wish it, it will happen but why would W&C wish it?

My2cents1975 · Today 14:05

In Christianity, repentance precedes forgiveness. The whole confessing of sins, feeling remorse and actively seeking to change one's behaviour to align with Christ's values.

So those trying to use the "Head of the Church so must forgive" stick should, in order to be consistent, inform the rest of the class of the signs they have seen indicating HaMs repentance.

Given that I have yet to see an article in People magazine or a missive from the Whatsapp-approved "journalists" or an accidentally published letter or even a tearful interview (one tear, left eye, go), I can't say I see much from the HaMs on the repentance front.

Why would W&C wish it? They may not, of course, and it would depend on so many factors, wouldn't it?

I suppose I can only answer from my own point of view and life experience; I would forgive (and have forgiven betrayal). But not everyone does, or can, or should.

Why would they wish to? For the future, for what once was (and could again, be) a good sibling/in law relationship. For their children, for the future of the family and the job, and for the people.

I do think that as a family the world watches, forgiveness and reconciliation would reflect very well on them. Unity is better than division. Unity and kindness is what the RF are all about (or should be).

To be honest with you, if W&C decide that they cannot reconcile, I wouldn't personally think badly of them. Life is all a lot of nuance and human nature after all, isn't it? We are all human, as are they; we make mistakes, we sometimes do stupid things, we can be easily lead or tempted by money and fame and let anger cloud our view and decisions. And of course, we can regret!

I think if public reconciliation does happen, there would be very water-tight agreements put in place.

Its not persoanlly attacking someone if you ask then what they would do or point out things they have said before. 🤷 if thats the case then you pointing out things h&m have said before would be classed as personally attacking them.

Thankyou . . . I understand better now where you're coming from.

But, unfortunately, whilst I agree with your sentiments which may well be applicable & appropriate in some circumstances, I think the situation between H&M & W&C is too serious, complex and long-standing for a reconciliation to take place

Even in the unlikely scenario of a reconciliation taking place, W&C would be constantly walking on eggshells because H&M have such difficult personalities. It would never be a healthy relationship as too much has happened, so I think hoping for a reconciliation for them all, whilst it would please us all, is totally unrealistic

It's good to have a healthy, polite and intelligent debate about stuff like this!

I think we actually agree on a lot.

I think regarding your point of 'W&C would be constantly walking on eggshells because H&M have such difficult personalities'; I think that's a good point (although it pains me to write it because I simply only know what I know about these people from what I read).

It might be that it ultimately suits W&C to reconcile publicly as colleagues (or just publicly as family) and not fully, actually reconcile as 'friends' and relatives that spend time privately together. Many relatives 'tolerate' family members and see them in small doses, or continue to work with them - albeit at arm's length.

And I really do think that if there is some kind of reconciliation, there will be agreements to sign and deals to adhere to (speculation, of course, but common sense, I think).

(Aarrgghh - didn't want to quote your whole post, but for some reason my PC won't let me take an excerpt.)

Re the W and C not forgiving and you thinking badly of them. I would actually think badly of them if they did. It would show weakness of character, to my mind. I believe forgiveness is highly overrated. Can it be voluntary? I mean, can you actually just decide to forgive? I would think it has to come from the heart, and not be something you just decide to do - that would be false and meaningless. Real forgiveness, I would imagine, is incredibly rare. The 'I've decided to do the right thing' forgiveness is not the real deal.

I don't know why people go on about it. Who cares? It's up to individuals and it's something which happens within their own minds - it's entirely personal, and I just do not get why any of us here would be invested in the RF's forgiveness.

I hope W and C stay strong and prioritise their own and their children's well- being. That's what matters.

Why is anyone bothered about them forgiving HaM??? I'm baffled!

And forgiveness in that religious sense isn't the same as 'let bygones be bygones, and let's pretend the last 7 years didn't happen!', is it? It's a state of mind, and that doesn't necessarily translate into Harry and Meghan being embraced once more by the family. It's not a sort of cure-all, or shouldn't be.

I remember when a particularly notorious long-term prisoner wanted to be released early and claimed they had 'converted to Christianity and were very sorry for their crimes'. I remember thinking 'Well, that's fine and dandy. So go to confession, repent and live a good, Christian life. But it has absolutely NO relevance to you coming out of prison early!'

Honestly, the more I read of this stuff, the more I think some pps have been watching too many feel-good Hollywood films. Life isn't like that.

The ALLEGATIONS against Thomas Markle may prove untrue. But reconciliation with Meghan and her father obviously won't happen, will it? So why did you ask this question? Sarcasm, I suppose. I hope my reply satisfies your curiousity!

Odd reply .. it was a genuine question so you are saying yes you did but in the light of the possible truth no? You seem unable to understand why I asked this in the light of you telling @MajesticMeanderings that she was " sad" . Are you therefore " sad" too if you wish no ?

Scuttlingupabove · Today 15:58

The useful thing from the RF perspective is that by burning their bridges with Oprah, Netflix etc Meghan and Harry have made it very clear they are seperate and forging their own (mad) path. Its very much in the RF interests to keep it that way, to mimise being dragged in to this sordid situation. There will be absolutely no impetus to reconcile.

The monarchy over hundreds of years has survived by doing what is necessary. Bringing back into the fold MM and H due to their association with the Markle family would be detrimental to the interests of the monarchy so wont happen.

My other thought is that Harry will want to protect his children from assocation with the Markles and may cut MM loose in time.
