The royal family

Harry & Meghan - what does the future hold?

I’m not really sure whether I can articulate this very well, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I think I support a route for Harry and Meghan to find a route back into the fold of the royal family, and find that odd and conflicting given everything that has happened.

I found the Oprah interview, the freedom flight, the Spare revelations awful. It felt really unpleasant the way Meghan came into the royal family, was active for so little time and then criticised it all so publicly and in a way that seemed a bit of a cultural miss (I’m not referring to the racism allegations here). I think that her American mindset perhaps did not fully understand the tacit consent nature of the royal family and the constitutional delicacies with which the titles are held. This is why it makes commercialisation and speaking at round tables about ‘power’, jarring.

However, despite ALL of this this, I see two human beings. One man who has grown up, without any consent, in a strange institution, in the glare of the spotless, completely traumatised by the death of his mother in horrendous circumstances when he was a young boy. A veteran too. Although not comparable to this, Meghan clearly has also had a dysfunctional childhood too. These latest revelations around her father mean that from the outside, none of us really know what’s going on.

I would like them all to just be happy. I feel like collectively it would be awesome as a nation if we could give the family the framework to sort it all out by just saying ‘look, H&M, you did some crazy shit, it was hugely damaging and cruel. But we understand that you guys have gone through crap too. Let’s look forward- try and sort it out’.

I’d honestly like to be done with the drama and for everyone to just get on. Does anyone else feel like this? I know it doesn’t really work like this in practice, I’m just trying to get across how I’m feeling.

Please also try and be a bit kind in your responses. I think this is coming from a place where everything just feels really negative/heavy in life at the moment and the need for some positivity,

Of course not! , nobody is allowed to discuss the golden duo ! , even in the face of children suffering alleged sexual abuse…the focus must remain on Meghan, she is the victim here, the children are immaterial ….its poor Meghan all the way for some! ….yet we are the ones who should be ashamed! ….there is a name for people who prioritise the inane criticism of a rich celebrity over the actual suffering of children….

@jeffgoldblum Meghan has not been accused of sexual abuse. did you blame the york women for their fathers actions? no. but you keep blaming Meghan for her fathers actions.

I agree of course Coffee but these wives are applying for two, some might say conflicting jobs. Actual wife and Actual Institutional Wife Professional.
Catherine did a long internship, suited both roles and, crucially, appears to have wanted both jobs. And is ass kicking at both. So did Sophie despite one big car crash. Wallis Simpson never really wanted it. Fergie could not do either job but they needed someone to take on the family oaf. Diana dwarfed Charles professionally and left him cold personally. Markle can do the wife but can’t do the Royal Professional Colleague/Wife. Camilla can only do both because the first wife died.

This is like saying to a CEO you want them to hire a head of security who is also someone you want to marry, breed with and stay with forever and who can do both jobs.

Good points, but from what I see (and that's the only evidence I can trust!) W and C are a good team. There is a good vibe between them when they're in public and it seems genuine to me, unlike the performative hand-holding and pawing and doe-eyed gazing which M goes in for.

I know - pps will howl 'Why are you slagging off Meghan again?' Well, to make a valid point. Some people are forever trying to claim that WaC are miserable together and hate each other (and worse, but let's not go there...) just because they don't do the performative, cable drama stuff which M does.

So I think they're a contented married couple, and I'd be willing to bet that W is all too aware of the value of a calm, genuine family life a la Middletons, rather than the drama of his own parents' marriage and the bonkers pantomime of H and M.

I think they both carry out their respective roles very well, despite endless negativity and nit-picking. And I think W will change things towards a more modest monarchy when he get the reins of power.

I can't see any way in which they'd be welcomed back into the fold. Both have shown repeatedly that they won't listen to advice, follow instruction and Meghan simply cannot adhere to RF protocol because she naively or ignorantly believes her way is better. They are loose cannons of the worst kind. And Harry should know better, he was born into this family. Meghan I give a little more leeway because the British RF was an alien concept to a native American.

Agree it can't happen, for a thousand reasons.

And this latest issue has meant that the RF will just sidle away and let them deal with it themselves, and who can blame them? It's absolutely nothing to do with the RF unless you think everything that happens in the world is their fault...

my hope is that they can have forgiving, loving family relationships and get over hurts, whatever they do going forward.

But that means that H&M need to apologise to their family members for the all the hurt they have caused and I don't believe they will ever apologise

I really believe H was what my DM would call "a troubled soul" long before he met M and, once he met her, things went disastrously wrong

Obviously the first few things that we knew went wrong (e.g. bridesmaids outfits at H&M's wedding) could be regarded as misunderstandings and it would have been lovely if that could have been amicably sorted out, but I'm sure there were so, so many more issues going on during H&M's courtship, engagement & early marriage that we don't know about.

And once H&M wrote a book, did the OW interview etc etc, the likelihood of them reconciling with the family members they were openly criticising (I'm being polite here) vanished into the ether

My hope is that they will reflect and make their children's happiness and security (no, not THAT sort of security) their priority. I hope they'll put any vain and trivial ambitions of their own to be A listers and celebrities aside.

I see no hope for reconciliations, either in Meghan's horrible family, or with the RF. The damage they've done is just too serious, and it's ongoing.

But they could make things better for their children and live a quiet, calm life either in the US or here on a modest, comfortable, private level.

Do I think they'll do this? No, but I live in hope they'll have learned something over the past year.

I honestly cannot see any reconciliation, there is no going back after racism accusation.
Also H&M made the Queen & Prince Philips last months & years absolutely miserable.

Catherine & William will absolutely protect their precious children from the toxic narcissists that H&M are. They cannot be trusted not to sell stories about the Wales children.
The grey rock method is working perfectly fine & long may it continue.
The royal family owe H&M nothing.

In addition, no older male would want to find themselves alone with the Sussex children.

William & Catherine are also very good responsible parents who will protect their precious children from H&Ms toxicness & lies at all costs.
Grey rocking & no contact seems to be working very well for W&C, both looking great, relaxed & happy.
They won't let their peace be destroyed again

I certainly hope they keep their distance from her side, except Doria who seems lovely.

I would hope they can have a relationship with other members of the family for whom it would be meaningful.

I would rather see them reconciled to certain family members, like his father, than see AMW strolling around at christmas church or trotted out at any future events, even ones billed as family ones, if there are press there.

I blame Meghan for not keeping quiet and making this all about her , when it isn’t!
facts matter.

You can think what you like, of course, but it is not your (or our) decision.

You did blame her for not reconciling with her dad for not talking to him and cutting him off for the kids not having a relationship with their grandad. So you were wrong to blame her then and well if you are wrong about that what else are you wrong about, her staying silent?

Let me see..if your son or Dad was accused of this are you running to the papers and telling them and everyone or are you waiting for an investigation you were told was taking place to conclude.

Its for HaM to sincerely apologise, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Yes it's William & Catherine's decision & they will absolutely protect their children from H&M as an absolute priority.
After the stories H&M sold to media about them & accusations of racism there is no path back.

Seeing as you keep forgetting that you are not supposed to tag me and I in turn ignore you …I will have to respond as I did previously!

flattered but not interested.

There is no way back, and I remain convinced they don’t even want to. Harry’s recent interview shows that, he wants reconciliation but on his terms and with no apology from either of them for what they have done. They are both still in the mentality that they have done no wrong and have been wronged..Everything is everybody else’s problem

They can make more money by pretending they want reconciliation but are being blanked by the royals, make money by selling their victim hood...

MajesticMeanderings · Today 13:10

I find it intriguing when PP's talk about a reconciliation as if it's easily achievable.

I would genuinely like to know how they think it could be achieved?

As we all know, W&C have cut off contact with H&M for very good reasons. So it would take an intermediary, trusted on both sides, to do all the heavy lifting

I can't think of anyone who would be willing to risk their reputation by dealing with H&M and I honestly don't believe W&C would have anything to gain from an attempt at reconciliation - it would just lead to a prolonged period of intense stress with no realistic chance of progress being made

George is 13 he probably knows exactly what H&M are like & the racism accusations, everything is online. He probably won't want anything to do with them either.

Did The Wales's tell you this over Sunday lunch yesterday? You cannot know what other people will do (unless they did tell you themselves!).

Again, it is up to them whether or not they forgive and/or reconcile.

If we all limited our comments here to what we know, as opposed to what we think based on intelligent (or otherwise, in many cases) observation, very few people would have standing to say anything.
