The royal family

Harry & Meghan - what does the future hold?

I’m not really sure whether I can articulate this very well, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I think I support a route for Harry and Meghan to find a route back into the fold of the royal family, and find that odd and conflicting given everything that has happened.

I found the Oprah interview, the freedom flight, the Spare revelations awful. It felt really unpleasant the way Meghan came into the royal family, was active for so little time and then criticised it all so publicly and in a way that seemed a bit of a cultural miss (I’m not referring to the racism allegations here). I think that her American mindset perhaps did not fully understand the tacit consent nature of the royal family and the constitutional delicacies with which the titles are held. This is why it makes commercialisation and speaking at round tables about ‘power’, jarring.

However, despite ALL of this this, I see two human beings. One man who has grown up, without any consent, in a strange institution, in the glare of the spotless, completely traumatised by the death of his mother in horrendous circumstances when he was a young boy. A veteran too. Although not comparable to this, Meghan clearly has also had a dysfunctional childhood too. These latest revelations around her father mean that from the outside, none of us really know what’s going on.

I would like them all to just be happy. I feel like collectively it would be awesome as a nation if we could give the family the framework to sort it all out by just saying ‘look, H&M, you did some crazy shit, it was hugely damaging and cruel. But we understand that you guys have gone through crap too. Let’s look forward- try and sort it out’.

I’d honestly like to be done with the drama and for everyone to just get on. Does anyone else feel like this? I know it doesn’t really work like this in practice, I’m just trying to get across how I’m feeling.

Please also try and be a bit kind in your responses. I think this is coming from a place where everything just feels really negative/heavy in life at the moment and the need for some positivity,

Sorry about the lengthy post

TLDR: I don’t think Harry and Meghan are bad people, and I’d love to see reconciliation, but their constant clap backs, need to control the narrative and victim mentality create unnecessary drama. They need to stop competing with the Royal Family, take accountability and focus on their charitable work rather than their grievances. Sometimes the best PR is knowing when to say nothing and letting your actions speak for themselves.

I thought your post was brilliant - really well written and captures exactly how I feel about the situation. Thank you 🙂

Here's a helpful tip, just ignore it, I never read any articles about them, just take in the headlines and read some of the stuff on here to try and undertand why they evoke such intense feelings. I am truly mystified by it, it reminds me of teenagers rowing about which band it the best. As i have said before, I think we should abolish the monarchy, it clearly affects too many people in a rather unhealthy way as well as being not espcially good for the royals themselves.

It’s not the monarchy which affects people in an unhealthy way!

Trooping the Colour cheers me up every June.

Idealist3 · 24/10/2026 20:17

I sense it will be a Wallace Simpson-Duke of Windsor outcome and they will be exiled to France or somewhere and live as jaded ex-royals

People really have lost all sense of perspective.

Spot on.

@Bluejumperdog no long post from me . No they're a pair of fuckers. Many people have difficult backgrounds ( as per your post) and they don't act like these two.

I think it evokes interest as its like watching a carcrash in slow motion. They do so many self destructive things it's hard to look away sometimes. It also has so many themes as old as time. Younger brother's jealousy for the older successful brother, unsuitable marriage to a scheming wife (obviously that's a matter for people to judge themselves) or perhaps kissing a prince and turning him into a frog, hubris, pride before a fall. Even an Oedipus complex. They are very interesting (probably not for the reasons they think they are) while being so disliked.

Your post has been put together so thoughtfully & eloquently but I have to disagree with you.

I dont think there is anyway back. Firstly H&M made the Queen & Prince Philip's final month's & years absolutely miserable. What type of absolute scumbag does that to their grandparents?

Secondly Meghan may not have been aware the royal family is not a commercialised position but Harry knew.

Thirdly after accusing people of racism there is absolutely no way back & rightly so.

Harry & Meghan are so very unpopular the vast majority of the British public do not want them even in the country never mind paying for the trouble making, money grabbing pair of grifters!

MeghanAndTheSeals · 24/10/2026 21:27

You know when a kid asks a question, you give an answer and they say “why?” So you answer the why and they then respond “but why?”. So you patiently answer again and they respond …. Then half an hour later you can’t decide whether to bang your head against a pebble-dashed wall or neck a bottle of wine at breakneck speed.

Thats what a lot of this thread has felt like - I’m opting for the 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

BrambleyHedgeAutumn · 24/10/2026 23:28

I don't think it's possible. I feel really sad about these latest revelations and what that must be like to deal with and have to reassess a huge part of your childhood. I've always found Meghan performative, found their behaviour as a couple baffling, frustrating and frequently very tacky. But I think she probably is compensating for a lot of quite messed up stuff behind the scenes and tbh I admire her tenacity in just ploughing on over the years. Harry I just find vindictive, and frankly neither of them have the ability to get on with things in a low-drama way, or could ever be trusted again.

The best case scenario is some kind of private, iron-clad agreement with the RF in which they are given enough money that they can leave the grifting circuit, in return for proper NDAs, serious ground rules, voluntarily relinquishing their titles. Then maybe there is a foundation on which they can build some kind of cordial relationship that allows Archie and Lillie to at least have some connection with the rest of the family. But they will always be kept at arms length, and rightfully so, because Harry has put the boot in time and again and has zero qualms or self-awareness about it.

Dollymylove · 24/10/2026 23:35

Lifecircle · 24/10/2026 17:27

I feel the same as you.
Harry is very damaged but behaved badly.
If William could be forgiving then maybe then maybe Harry and Meghan could be brought back in to the fold.
If Diana was alive it would break her heart to see her boys at loggerheads.

Diana would probably have banged their heads together had she been alive 🙄

ForMintBee · 24/10/2026 23:39

Are we all so removed from the me too movement to ever imagine that that level of control or manipulation cannot happen in plain sight. What they say may be uncomfortable and may go against the grain for all things British and all things royal but perhaps in years to come they will be commended for having spoken out. And as a nation we will feel horrible for having neglected victims when asked for help. Perhaps the very institution they have criticised is the same institution we have all subconsciously defended without knowing a single thing that goes on within it. We could all be being duped and they have been made the scape Goats time and time again!

I don't give a flying fuck about the dates of whst haplened where its a moot point there are enough reasons for her to have cut off her Dad and it doesn't excuse all the headlines the media out out or all the horrivle comments made on here.

I'll think you'll find the Police will care about the dates..

The letter came in January 2019, which coincides with this:

”During the sit-down interview on CBS, Meghan revealed that she experienced these severe mental health struggles while she was pregnant with her son, Archie, placing the timeline of her crisis around January 2019. She noted that she reached a breaking point on January 16, 2019, the same day she and Prince Harry attended a performance at London's Royal Albert Hall.”

HaM have plenty of money to live very well indeed already. Don’t worry about them.

What they haven’t got is enough to live like Elton John or Hollywood A listers with private jets, yachts and the ability to take any case to court without even considering the cost. That’s tough - but they don’t have a God-given right to such a lifestyle despite what they may think.

They need to decide which side of the Atlantic they prefer, buy a ranch in the US or a small Manor House in the UK and settle down to a peaceful, dignified life, focused on their children. That ought to bring happiness to any reasonable person, but the problem is, both HaM feel the world owes them more, and both wither without the oxygen of attention and adulation.

i wish for their sakes that they could learn a bit of wisdom and understand what really matters in life instead of letting thei jealousy of others consume them.

I wouldn’t know where to start unpicking the lies they’ve both told. They think we’re stupid! And that’s going to be a problem going forward.

I think Meghan assumed she was marrying into that lifestyle. When she discovered not, she thought she’d go out & get it. But moving straight to the top of the Monopoly board isn’t how it works… Moving back to the UK & living a quiet life might have worked, but they are clearly out of money. And now this…

And that vulgar greed is one of the reasons I dislike M. It was apparent from the outset with the obscene cost of that dress she charged to Charles for her engagement publicity. I think the outfit in total came in at a smidge under 100K. What sort of person thinks that’s OK when someone else is paying?!😳. Think how useful even that amount would be to a small charity.

She is very elegant and attractive - she could have looked fab in a 2K outfit, as C often does.

I got her number early on.

Vulgar to bully and be rude to their employees too. Sign of being ill-bred.

It’s the old trope about the Victorian nouveau riche being mean to their servants! Sometimes cliches and stereotypes exist for a reason.

I'm not worried about them. It would just be the most mutually beneficial arrangement IMO, and most of what they've done appears to be money motivated. The RF need to find some way of drawing a line under their constant drama! It's not good for the status of the monarchy to have them behaving the way they do, particularly while being back in the UK.

Harry and MM are a real problem for the RF. One I don't know how they will solve. Their antics distract from the good works of the RF and take publicity away from things like the Earth shot prize or Aberfan or diplomacy which will benefit the UK like the Omani visit. Things that actually matter to and affect the people of the UK.

But H and M's contributions to public discourse are never positive and the latest scandal means that attention is on MMs awful family and the timeline of MMs knowledge of his actions. Now we have daily reports of MMs reaction to developments with the Met police. On the basis the RF probably want nothing to do with MM or her family its very difficult to have that association constantly brought up.

If H and M wanted what was good for them they would as a PP suggested have a quiet life..but they obviously don't want that. So her association with the RF association will continue to tarnish them and their work as goodness knows what else will come out about her and her family. And she doesnt seem to think that the fact her own family is absolutely appalling means she needs to hold back complaining about minor things that happened to her during her very brief time in the royal fold.H and M don't seem to care about other people unless being seeing to care benefits them. So they don't care that they are taking attention from charties and causes the RF support that actually need it.

The obvious solution was to take away their titles and I thought that was going to happen if they carried on doing fake Royal "engagements". But the timing of these revelations is very convenient for H and M. Does removing their titles look too unkind to someone whose father looks like he may be a paedophile? Many will be sympathetic to the humiliation she must now feel and that her children will have to bear at their new schools. Its a tricky one. The RF must rue the day one of their formerly most popular members met the disaster of MM.

An older friend of mine who worked at the BBC for years has a very interesting insight into William and Harry. When William met Catherine, the Middleton's became his family and provided him with a great deal of support, stability, love, care and showed him what a relatively 'Normal" family are like. Remember the piggyback story. Harry on the other hand had none of this stability and spent his young adult years adrift and partying.

Yes. And also Meghan having that knowledge for 8 years totally contradicts the image she tries so hard to portray as a global humanitarian..
