Poor Harry. As if his week hasn’t been bad enough he has now had to watch his brother appearing on the best talk show , holding his own, looking comfortable and relaxed, keeping up with the banter, making half decent jokes, telling stories against himself with humour.

Makes Harry’s attempt at tv chatting seem even more uncomfortable.

“Call me William” versus “I am a prince.”

You must be very young or maybe you’ve lived overseas? Royals have been going on chat shows since chat shows were a thing. If you do some research you’ll find lots of egs.

Nice try, though!😂

I disagree the use of emoticons and exclamation narks make a refreshing change from acres of text and the substance of your post has guts.😂😀!!!! And if you are young revel in your youth because it is soon lost.

O how the mighty have fallen! The future king of England on a tacky chat show hosted by a gay Irishman 😂 The Queen and her firm would be doing somersaults 😂 My Irish granny pissing herself laughing 😂 😜

Now can you imagine if this was his brother, the men in grey suits would be hiring full call centres worth of staff to be slating him on MN and other media platforms. Hypocrites and Double Standards!

The brother has been on more interviews and chat shows and podcasts than William has had hot dinners.

Is it the gay and the Irish you object to ?

Correct. A tame, practically sewn-up, pre-recorded interview, with a 40-something privileged man briefed and rehearsed to within an inch of his life. And he got through it without apparent error. Bravo! A King’s ransom for that. Gizza job I could do that.

All hail the King apparent, for he doth dance and prance with such frivolity, whilst the Kingdom rots !
How now, nuncle?

I’m sorry his successful appearance has upset you quite so much.

I’d take issue about the kingdom rotting, though. Things are not great in Europe at the moment- the West generally is in decline and we’re not going to like it. How do you feel about what’s happening in France just now? There’s an established republic in serious trouble. But you claim the UK is rotting. It might be in trouble, as many European countries are, but it’s holding its own in comparison to others.

Some of these posts are desperate- all because a perfectly pleasant man came over well on TV.

It’s a sign of desperation - tying themselves in knots to make out he’s evil personified and Earthsot is some kind of capitalist conspiracy.

Not necessarily a capitalist conspiracy, but it is perfectly legitimate for people to have concerns around greenwashing and PR, in fact I’d consider it naive not to.

I could answer but then I would be pissing all over the threads(TM) and I'm vaguely trying to keep on topic.

Another wonderful interview with Prince William this morning on BBC, a true genuine tribute, to both Sir Kevin Sinfeld and his efforts to raise funds and bring awareness to MND and a tribute to Rob Burrow and his family. Heartfelt and genuine comments. he is very articulate and easy. He looked great.

Blimey Harry back in town has really kicked him up the arse to do "work" - more of this and he might win me over. Now pause his tenant evictions and it's a deal.

What other worthy causes can William attach himself to? Not sure who his latest PR advisers are, but they’re working overtime at the moment!

Quite! It is so transparent, but if it gets him doing something then that is at least a start.

I’m note sure what anyone’s incontinent grandmother has to do it with, either, but at least she watched it unlike these other jokers.

🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ oh dear, thing are bad for people, when someone is being criticised for supporting and highlight a great cause such as MND.

The jealousy is quite intense and destructive for some people,

The last parliamentary debate on Windsor finances was over 15 years ago. The anti monarchy mood is growing quickly . I know the public accounts committee is looking into the duchy and I hope reform is coming .

The last debate on the Sovereign Grant Bill 2026 (soon to be Act) was on Wednesday 14th October, just under 2 weeks ago.

The National Audit Committee reviews the annual accounts of the Sovereign Grant each year, as it does for other government departments.
The Public Accounts Committee reviews the annual accounts of the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall each year, as required by their Management Acts.
All these accounts are publicly available documents.

No.

And I believe you are well aware that proper adverserial debate about about Windsor finances has NOT happened since 2011.

Why 2011 ? Because that was when the Tories set up the entire outrageous rip off and changed the civil list ( with annual proper debate over how much money the Windsors wanted) to the Sovereign grant -one aspect of which was to expressly cut the annual debate!

How convenient . Imagine how much more anger and anti Windsor feeling there would be if we still had the annual debate BEFORE the Windsors got their money.

What you are trying to class as a ‘debate’ in fact the country being told - here is how much more the greedy basrards are taking this year. All pre decided. No debate.

There was no debate because the old system meant the Windsors had to present their figures in advance and there was a parliamentary debate. The Windsors hated that debate. Charles and Elizabeth campaigned for years to get it changed and Cameron’s Tories granted their wish.

One thing I have noticed - backbenchers and others are challenging more and are reflecting the public mood. Good. More to come I hope.

Not at all, only in the minds of Republicans and Sussex fans is William’s popularity and impact denigrated.

He remains extremely popular with the British public.

There is a difference. I volunteer for a charity and give a considerable amount of my time to it. I receive neither a salary nor any glory; I do it out of the goodness of my twisted heart, because I genuinely enjoy helping others.

William, by contrast, receives what I estimate to be around £40,000 a day in after-tax income from the Duchy of Cornwall an institution whose privileges and status are ultimately rooted in the state and the hereditary system. His public engagements and PR are part of the job that comes with that extraordinary income. They serve both to justify the institution and to protect it from excessive criticism.
Let's not confuse the two. I volunteer because I want to help. William's public role is, in effect, paid work for The Firm.

OliveMyLove · Today 07:46

@Arjan If this is some fancy type of PR I’d say we could put out our own shingle and open up a PR shop. “Go on tv. Be charming!”

So easy anyone could do it. If only you could command people everywhere to just be warm and genuine and a little funny.

Most of the information available to us consists of a highly curated public image into which an enormous amount of PR resource is spent. It is a good thing to look at this information critically and dig into all the available information before coming to any sort of judgement.

Exactly, and the Republicans and Sussex fans are such a small minority, they could do with using a bit of real considerate PR strategy if they really hope to move the dial on the message they are trying to get across, using William and Catherine as their nemesis is not going to do it for them, that’s pretty obvious.

Good idea. I'll meet you halfway: the monarch should be chosen on something like the Dalai Lama model, with the Archbishop of Canterbury selecting promising candidates in their teens. After a rigorous selection process details still to be worked out the successful candidate would undergo two years of intensive training in the art of being Head of State.
At the end of that period, they would face the ultimate test: public acclaim. Pass, and they get the job for life, retiring at 60 to make way for fresh blood.
This is very much a work in progress, obviously. The job would come with a 40-hour working week, paid overtime, proper holidays and a modest £1,000 per diem.
I don't see why we should settle for hereditary privilege when we could have a properly trained, publicly approved monarch on a sensible employment contract.

Hopefully their first act would be to abolish the clocks going back subject to Parliamentary approval.

I don’t know if you’ve had much involvement with the PR industry, but like advertising it is highly sophisticated and, when executed effectively, guides public view and opinions without people really noticing (or, more importantly, questioning!)
