Telegraph:

‘Sources close to the Sussexes told The Telegraph that the Royalty and Specialist Protection Unit within the Metropolitan Police shared the letter with the Duchess, and she was assured that UK authorities were pursuing the investigation.
The Telegraph understands the letter was sent to the Duchess in the summer of 2018, after her wedding to Prince Harry in May.’

Sometimeroyalist · 23/10/2026 13:01

People are getting the Meghan timeline wrong. According to her statement, the letter went to the Met and then the Met contacted her.

Let's see what the Met say........

QuirkyStork · 23/10/2026 12:54

Yes, she has now involved the British authorities and potentially the RF, so allegations will have to be investigated. Not just a personal/family matter. Really bad move.

Surely this must be true that the Palace and the met were aware of the allegations as that can easily be proved or disproved?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/10/2026 13:01

None of you know them,

Do people still seriously come out with this teenage guff? if people didn't post about people they don't know, 99.999% of social media wouldn't exist.

Did everyone else see the picture of Harry at the GQ interview?! 😱
He is 42! He looks like he's been in a 10 day stag do in Krakow, accidentally fell in a skip, woke up in Bratislava, ate a 3 day old kebab and hitched a ride on a rubble lorry. Then fell off the ferry, got pulled out and slept in a doorway. Then went through some bins, drunk some cider and then staggered home.

Who hasn't?

So the BBC (you couldnt get more mainstream media) are asking us is this why they returned to quickly to the UK?

Which I don’t really understand why would they would say that unless they have some idea what’s going on. They say that Markle Snr is in the US.

Could it be, if Meg n Harry were on US soil they could be questioned by US authorities? Compelled to be witnesses if there were charges/court case etc. But in the Uk they can’t?

I have zero legal knowledge on this, but I can’t think why the BBC is putting this info out there.

‘With such question marks over her estranged father - and he has denied any wrongdoing - it also raises the issue of whether that played a part in the Sussexes' hurried return to the UK in late summer.
The Sussexes' spokesman has not responded to questions about whether that was a factor in their decision to leave the US, where her father was living.’

Edited

I can't either. Lately the BBC have been very pro-HAM in their reporting choices, and in this instance I don't see how it fulfils that aim.
The one thing this might do though is explain the hurried move back to the UK from Megan's perspective. That's puzzled me all along, as I've posted several times before, because I can see why Harry would want to return, but not why Meghan would, and I can't understand why Meghan would give in when she previously held all the cards with the kids being resident in the USA. If there was some advantage to her not being in the USA when this came out, I can sort of understand it, though I'm still not clear on what that advantage would actually be.

I am wondering about this as well

BigWillyLittleTodger · 23/10/2026 13:07

Also why didn’t the Markles in the US know of the allegations? Why has it taken this discovery by TMJ?? I presume Meghan has nieces and nephews, possibly great nieces and nephews?? Have they been left vulnerable?

Hard to prove a negative though. If the Met or the Palace are to say they didn't receive any letter, they can't prove they didn't...

It would be a much nicer place for one thing. You can post about people you don't know without needing to be horrible about them. Probably how it was when it first started but all good things get tainted.

What, so certain people are above criticism? Because they're royal? I'll be critical of people's words and actions, no matter what their status.

MajesticMeanderings · 23/10/2026 13:11

Unfortunately I can't remember who it is but one royal commentator has been saying for several weeks that there is a story that H&M are hoping won't reach the press

I'm wondering whether this is the story or whether there's another one to come?

Oh it's just used to shut down discussion. I do wonder how these people vote if they limit themselves so much.

MrsLeonFarrell · 23/10/2026 11:29

For everyone who is looking for inconsistency with her statement and everything they have ever said about her father. I'm not sure what your point is.

Are you saying that because they didn't tell the truth about why she cut off her father then we can't believe the statement?
Are you saying the accusations are false?

The statement is perusal the best she could say at this point, knowing that she has given a different narrative publically. That doesn't mean they she isn't being truthful now ant the letter from the police and the distancing from her father.

I don't agree with a lot of what the Sussexes have said and done but in this my sympathies are with them. This is an impossible situation to navigate in public knowing that you are divisive figures whose every word is analysed.

My opinion is that people shouldn’t be allowed to muddy the waters if it suits their narrative re Harry and Meghan. There are very sick people out there who will think nothing of using the alleged abuse in order to make Harry and Meghan start smelling of Roses.

Rhaidimiddim · 23/10/2026 13:12

Heyelpheyelp · 23/10/2026 12:43

Shouldn’t the Mexican police have investigated though?

Absolutely. I was reacting against a post that put that on the US authorities.

But, if the Met were informed - as MM's statement avers - then the assumption is that they were informed by a police force in the relevant jurisdiction that was making enquiries.

SiegfriedSassoon · 23/10/2026 13:03

The only other thing I can think of, is they left the US for the UK because they knew this was coming out and thought they’d maybe get wider protection from the RF, using their resources/MIGS etc to help deal with it?

Right now Liam is firefighting on his own and it’s been a bloody disaster- dragged the Met into it, revealed she’s known for years and never said anything.

But not Rose we don't mention her !

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 13:15

Someone online pointed out she didn’t need hard evidence to speak out on her father.

In the Oprah interview, all she had to do was allude to racism allegations. She didn’t actually say anything: she was out to destroy and knew how to do it, let Oprah do the talking.

BUT she couldn’t to allude to allegations about her father??

Hello @jeffgoldblum

@TheTwerkingDuchessOfMonteshitshow said this ‘Hopefully a new thread won’t be started and posts will die a death here. I feel ashamed that I posted on such an awful subject’ as part of the discussion that a few of us had on @OrdinaryGingerBloke’s concern about the way the discussion around the crimes against children was going last night.

I took her comment to mean that she hoped a thread on that subject would not be started, and that posts on that topic would die a death.

The discussion moved on, and we all agreed that the thread is for discussing Sussex PR responses and behaviours, rather than other details.

(Sorry if this has already been cleared up - I’m still having problems with the site)

Thank you @bluegreygreen

That’s exactly what I meant.

Except alot is speculation and gossip. I never said it would be perfectly nice I never said you couldn't criticse but even then when you do criticise it doesn't need to be done in nasty way.

So long as you have all the facts go ahead except here we can see people didn't have all the facts did they, especially when they made vile comments about why she went no contact with her father. Are those people apologising for being wrong, making a misake in making those comments. Surely now knowing what you do its a good thing she distanced herself and her children or will you maintain that its still an awful thing she did.

That makes sense. It must have been known about by the press (and more) before now.
