Maybe! I like her, I think she's intelligent and interesting and has worked very hard to promote and organise Longleat. Her cookery shows are excellent and she's very talented. However, always the one leg!

I think she has achieved a lot at Longleat.

However, she does seem to be going down the celebrity route at the moment - Ladies of London reality series, Kate Moss dress etc.

I don't know if the intent is simply brand promotion.

Emma Thynne always does that, it's irritating.

I’ve seen pictures of Angelina jolie , Meghan and a few others doing it too! , it looks ridiculous whoever does it!

I think Emma was previously a model and it’s probably a reflex from those days!

And Meghan has such a lovely red dress that would fit in nicely

She has a couple. This one:

Or from the Nigeria visit (the one thing she wore on that trip that I liked) this one:

But she'd probably go for this one:

Reminds me of that woman who screamed 'Diana!' as the coffin left KP on the day of the funeral. Well done, you're on every vid for posterity.

apart from one speech in front of Trump - almost certainly written by someone else - I'm struggling to think of anything that's gone right for his father since taking over

Didn't the visits to Germany, France, Canada and Italy go right? I thought the Canada visit in particular went off very well - it was essentially two fingers to Trump.

And CHOGM in 2024.

Plus visits hosted here - South Korea for one.

And all the routine stuff that we don't hear about.

As a Canadian, I will say that Charles’ visit, during which he read the Speech from the Throne, was a spectacular success.

What were the charity staff thinking? When I was a small child, a rather odd girl I was friendly with was told that Yoyo biscuits grow on trees. Her mum crept into the garden at the dead of night, put a dead twig in the ground, and tied some Yoyo biscuits onto the twigs. The twig was located in front of the odd girl's bedroom window.

I knew aged six that this was deception and wrong. This is even worse because HaM are grown-ups!

Now! , I must object, before he lost the plot , there is no denying that Mel Gibson was very attractive.

It's hard to think how they could have messed up so badly imo.

They had the chance to lead a funded life whilst they eased into being working royals & chose charities.

I guess that was all too scripted for M?

Although a bit like being an actress in some ways I would have thought.

Then they left for Cali with millions behind them & a regular payment from Pa & the only thing they could think of was trashing the RF?

I think she wanted to eclipse Catherine, she couldn't forgive William for cautioning Harry to slow down with the breakneck speed of his relationship with Meghan, she didn't like her vast dress allowance from Charles having a limit, didn't like having to curtsey to her majesty or having to follow royal protocol, didnt like not being paid for royal engagements or playing second fiddle to W&C, didn't feel they welcomed her enthusiastically enough.

She reminds me a little of Emma Watson (although much less educated) - she got carried away with the fleeting and fickle politics of the moment and thought she could elevate her career from professional victimhood.

Meghan backed the wrong horse and swapped the elitest kind of privalege, golden meal ticket of a lifetime for 5 minutes of tacky tabloid triumph. The one thing I will say in her defense is she doesn't come from the sort of background were she could benefit from sage and reliable wisdom and advice. As I'm sure Catherine has via her family.

I've focused on Meghan but Harry sometimes feels too idiotic to even bother talking about, I honestly don't know how to excuse his inadequateness.

I think it is. She married for love, but had to take on Longleat! It's such a huge thing, they're constantly having to develop and promote it to keep going. Her initiatives have made a difference. That reality show was shown in the USA, so that would get interest from American visitors. She does work hard.

But they made a big deal when she initially moved in with H that she was following the visa rules and wasn't asking for any special treatment.

I didn’t mean she doesn’t need one. It’s that getting one or extending it or amending it wouldn’t be a problem (as between UK and USA). Of course she did what had to be done: her aides will have done the paperwork and she will have just supplied answers to questions (one get the impression that Meghan will have seen that as her doing the UK an enormous favour by allowing her privacy to be invaded in such a way). So not a problem…until it is, of course! Which is why you see royals and private individuals expelled from countries when the two countries go to war or some diplomatic incident occurs or sanctions etc, serious stuff. In that respect these individuals aren’t “free”: they benefit from enormous privileges but these privileges can be rescinded for reasons beyond their control. Same goes for tax affairs, although with less of a leash. They’re not normal people like we are, they have fewer and greater rights at the same time, fewer and greater freedoms.

SiegfriedSassoon · Today 17:57

I didn’t have time to put this in the last post re Megan’s pose with eyes closed and hands on her chest -

the level of insincerity reminds me of waiters in California who work for tips - we were in a restaurant and the waiter was so friendly and interested in us - I realised I’d left something at the table and went back in a few minutes after leaving - spoke to him and he looked straight through me, no idea who I was and no interest in helping

It must be a horrible way to live, every relationship has to be transactional. May be going off on a tangent here but I wonder if it makes a difference to motherhood. Her children are of real monetary currency to her in a way that most people's can never be to them. It must shape the way you see them.

I'm still trying to work out why they came back. Especially as it was clearly a moonlit flit.

  1. They genuinely miss family in which case why are they still dropping leaks and being antagonistic to the RF
  2. They think that if they come back and do it well they'll be begged back in the fold again and be on the balcony etc I suppose they might think that, maybe. I don't think again they're acting like they want to be back in the RF's good books.
  3. They think if they're over here the public will uprise and insist they're back have they seen any opinion poles lately?
  4. They think that the RF won't be able to resist the allure of knowing the dc I'd expect more "they're so excited to be able to visit their grandfather" or "longing to know their cousins" "made them a card..." sort of leaks
  5. Want a British education possible - but why not wait until they're off to secondary and look at boarding rather than bring the whole family? Why now, in a hurry.
  6. They have financial issues and KC said he'd only pay if they were in the same country no. Can't see that happening, nor school fees. I know some people on here are certain KC is still funding them, I'm not sure he is. He may send them a waffle maker or a toaster for a birthday present, but I don't think he's going to be paying them anything like enough.
  7. They have financial issues and are running from them they're not exactly trying to stay incognito are they? Get me wrong, but I think the most incompetent debt collector could find them
  8. They have financial issues and are downsizing to cope with their outgoings in which case why isn't the other house on the market etc
  9. Visa issues it would explain a lot, but I don't think that is enough of an issue. They like being victims, so surely they would wait until told they had to go and play that up for all it's worth
  10. They thought if they returned full time they'd get security possibly. But surely someone must have tried to explain to them that they would only get security when they needed it. So even if they got given it now, they could lose it in 6 months time.
  11. Scandal coming out in which case I'd have expected to hear it. You don't move that quickly if there's something coming out in 6 months' time
  12. They're hoping Netflix will take them back with an "arrival home", followed by "Princess Di", followed by "Freedom Flight 2" documentaries. Possibly. I can see them thinking that. However, other than the fact they couldn't promise #3, I can't see Netflix going further than sticking with the first refusal, if nothing else because they were a pain to work with
  13. They've fallen out with everyone in US that they thought might help them Again a possibility. But I don't think here's any better...
  14. Want to be in the country for Invictus Why move the whole family over for a single event?
  15. Harry's mental health in all honesty I can see M using that as an excuse, to hide the real reason, but I can't see her moving the whole family over for that. But if that was the reason, he's surely going to be feeling far worse now.

So I'm thinking there must be something more. I do think neither of them is good at planning, but I also don't think they're very good at getting on with things quickly unless pushed.
I don't think this was on the cards for even a couple of months or we'd have been having tons of leaks about Harry missing his friends, the children wanting to meet the family and Megan being begged to come to be Director General of the BBC etc. Yes, there were a few in the last year, but not the intensity I'd have expected if they were planning it - plus they were interspersed with "living their best life" type leaks.

So I think there is something, which may or may not come out, that necessitated the quick move - and it certainly wasn't the perfect school place coming available or they'd have made it work rather than pulling out two days later.

It is absolutely fascinating. There may be serveal things at play at once. Another option could be one of them wants out of the marriage but I'm not sure about that one.

Yes, good strategy. It's like ignoring toddlers who are having a tantrum.

Problem is, some toddlers will then keep getting louder and more outrageous in an ever more desperate attempt to provoke a reaction.

Emma Thynne always does that, it's irritating.

I remember the days when every picture a person had taken meant the woman would have a foot turned out so her lower leg looked like the bottom of a K. It was so glamorous and my mum was great at it. I like doing it to this day but I’ve a long way to go to do it like my darling mum.

What word?

IdaGlossop · Today 18:27

I've just seen a photo of the press photographers who covered NottingHaM. Some of them have very large lenses and there are a lot of them. Almost too many, especially now they have established their own rota. Therec are more than 20.

Now I'm wondering of some of them are a set-up, like the 'crowd' - ordinary people paid to swell the ranks, clutch a camera, and make HaM look like superstars.

My deviousness is worrying me. Soon, I may start to think like a member of the Sussex Squad.

I think they looked rather loved up with Harry genuinely being protective of Meghan. I sincerely hope they go the distance and not only because any divorce/family breakdown be nothing like any ordinary divorce and I doubt any of them would ever get over it. They’d all be scarred for life.

SiegfriedSassoon · Today 18:29

Harry definitely on record saying he has never read a book. I don't think it's something Meg would admit to but she seems so unbelievably vacuous, I would put money on her not a fan of reading

Meghan would not see the value in reading. Harry probably hasn't got the attention span or possibly an adequate reading level. Although he did read Spare for the audiobook.
