The continuing story of the Sussexes and their PR issues.

Aberfan will trigger an upstage attempt. 3 of H's arch nemeses in attendance. Narc rage will kick off

My understanding is that Archie and Lilibet are UK citizens since they were born here and have a UK citizen father.

I thought that Lili was born in Cali?

She was. Twerking video was in a Cali hospital

Well, so far they've pissed off the US, Canada, and Australia. Let's see if they piss off Wales. Harry keeps calling himself the Prince of England, so Wales can say Not My Prince with impunity.

As per Sussex, does Harry know it is an actual existing county?

It's quite obvious their return was not reconciliation with KC and extended family. I really don't know what their end game is tbh. That latest statement about not signing a contract with late queen is so unbelievably disrespectful and quite nasty. In their favour, I think KC has a few good years left. PW will absolutely strip them of all titles, under the guide of restructuring etc

At the time of Megxit, didn’t they say the monarchy had no jurisdiction over the use of the term ‘royal’ globally? That was in addition to the ‘service is universal’ clap back. H should be ashamed of himself.

@bluegreygreen On the previous thread you asked why I believe Griffiths and Eden concocted a gala dinner fundraiser at Raffles for the Diana Award. Aside from the fact the Diana Award is incredibly unlikely to have anything like a gala dinner or have anything to do with somewhere like Raffles, the only mention anywhere of such an event was from Eden and Griffiths themselves and, subsequently, online chatter sparked by the claims in the Mail. There is no mention anywhere else of the supposed gala dinner, no advertising, no announcements, nothing. And the idea that it was abruptly cancelled beause Harry went weird or something makes absolutely no sense at all and would have resulted in huge costs for the Diana Award (the cancelled dining hall, the food and drink that had already been purchased would have had to be thrown away, the money for tickets sold returned).

On the other hand, Harry did make an appearance at a Diana Award panel in NYC on 23 September (a few days after the mystery Raffles event was supposedly scheduled). The CEO of the Diana Award ewas full of praise for Harry afterwards - unlikely if he had really left them in the lurch as claimed.

"The Duke of Sussex, 42, made an unannounced appearance at a Diana Award panel on Wednesday, Sept. 23, joining a conversation about what young people need to thrive in a rapidly changing world of work.

“Everyone was saying he was so funny. He cracked jokes on the panel,” Tessy Ojo, CEO of The Diana Award, tells PEOPLE. “He spoke about being 42 and not a spring chicken like the young people.”

It seems like Eden and Griffiths heard that Harry was doing something in September with the Diana Award but completely misunderstood what it was and somehow ended up with this idea of a gala dinner at Raffles. Supposedly they were going to "investigate" why the alleged Raffles event was cancelled but don't seem to have come up with anything for that. Perhaps because no such event was ever organised?

So, yeah, I'm rather sceptical about many of the claims made by "royal reporters" and "royal experts".

Thanks for replying, @BunnyBunbunbun.

We discussed the issues around the Diana Award gala dinner at the Old War Office on the threads at the time.

It was initially reported by Charlotte Griffiths in the Mail on Sunday on 30th August, and mentioned again in the DM on 31st August.
Her slant was that it was going to be a glamorous introduction for Meghan back into London society, and that there were some concerns around using the Diana Award charity in this way.

DM report - archive

That report was then denied by the Sussexes, whose spokesman said 'Despite the Daily Mail’s reporting to the contrary, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not scheduled to attend a Diana Award event at Raffles Hotel, OWO London, on 18 September.'
This denial was in the Mirror, where an insider also suggested that that Harry was considering writing a letter or appearing in a video message instead for the event.

You will note that the Mail reports give details, such as when people were asked to buy tables and when save-the-date cards were sent out, and that nowhere in the Mirror report is there a denial that the gala dinner exists.

Charlotte Griffiths video explaining what she heard of the cancellation is here
DM link - not archive
She explains that attendees had suddenly received emails saying that the event had been cancelled.

Richard Eden was not involved in the story, other than discussing it on the Palace Confidential episode of the same week.

Given that ANL have just won a very significant lawsuit around the reliability of its reporting, I think I'd need a little more evidence to suggest that they had 'concocted' such a story.

I remember some bilge like that which I'm sure he'll deny. I really don't know what he means by "service is universal "

Harry clearly doesn't know that a gentleman's word is his honour.
He just keeps on digging. His family (the Royal ones) must be watching through their fingers, aghast.

I think trying to upstage those royals attending the Aberfan anniversary would be far more than pissing off Wales. I sincerely hope HAM or one of their staff make an effort to find out what happened at Aberfan. HAM doing anything to try and overshadow it would be their biggest mistake ever.

Meg would have absolutely no idea about Aberfan and no interest educating herself either. H no doubt have any knowledge of it either. He is after all, Prince of England. Not Wales.

They’re probably quite anti Wales, given the association with William and his family.

I really hope they don't do this. The drama and media reporting would be an awful distraction from the 60th year service for the people of Aberfan. I hope the RF and courtiers are planning the most dignified response if the media covers any attempt by the HAMs to distract from the event. It's going to be tricky given it lands on day 2 of the state visit. Which it is likely HAM may try to distract from. The media will play a huge role here by choosing not to cover any visit etc that they perform. We can only wait and see.....

apart from one speech in front of Trump - almost certainly written by someone else - I'm struggling to think of anything that's gone right for his father since taking over

Didn't the visits to Germany, France, Canada and Italy go right? I thought the Canada visit in particular went off very well - it was essentially two fingers to Trump.

And CHOGM in 2024.

Plus visits hosted here - South Korea for one.

And all the routine stuff that we don't hear about.

I've never been convinced that KC3 is 'weak'.

I think that is misinformation spread by the same disruptive sources that spread rumours of splits between the monarch and heir.

There is no objective evidence of weakness in his management of the Sussexes.

On accession he wished them well in their life overseas.
On a visit to the UK he hosted them for about an hour at a non-royal residence.
On their return he responded to queries by publicly reminding government departments, military leaders and Lords Lieutenant (and indirectly everyone else) that the terms of the Sandringham agreement still stand.

OP posts:
PleasantGreenPorcupine · Today 15:02

KC isn't weak. The Monarchy is central to his life, he wants to leave a good legacy. He's not a fool.

They have mistimed their return. If they had come over at the beginning of the Summer they would have had a free run in the press as the Royals were on Summer break. Starting now, with a pretty amateur set of visits, means they are offering a direct contrast to the Royals Autumn programme which includes a State Visit, the Ambassadors Reception, Remembrance Sunday, Together at Christmas, all big high profile events, plus tiaras. The contrast between Catherine and Camilla in massive jewels walking through Windsor Castle and the Sussexes in a car park decorated with graffiti is stark.

The monarchy need do or say nothing, pictures paint thousands of words.

On a purely superficial level I can’t wait to see what big gun bling they pullout at the state banquets, presumably followed by some kind of ‘accidental’ sighting of Diana’s watch on Megan’s claw wrist…..

PleasantGreenPorcupine · Today 15:05

Did anyone see Camilla's programme about books and reading? She said she and KC both sit down and do quiet reading before dinner. She has been put off by him rocking with laughter though - I'm wondering if he was reading "Spare"?.

AutumnCrowInTheTrafficFlow · Today 15:09

It's a real conundrum for the palace. If they do nothing, Charles is accused of being weak. If they remove titles, about the only action they can take, they look spiteful.

Tom Sykes says today that the only reason for HaM wanting state-funded securidee is so they can turn up at events like NottingHaM looking Royal. I'm not sure I agree. I think they want any outing to involve a convoy that embiggens them.

Hasn’t Meg always loved an entourage, even as a minor cable actor? I believe she hired/grifted a lot of assistants and companions.

She lives and breathes entourage. It’s been part of her psyche for over 15 years.
