A crowd has turned out to see them. It’s currently being covered live on Sky News. Why on earth would anyone do this?

They aren’t working royals. They are just a pair of chancers who have scuttled back to Britain with their tails between their legs because they have died on their arses in the US. And now people are tugging their forelocks to them here.

People really are absolute fucking morons.

I know. However some posters may be from societies and faiths with traditional gender roles, so perhaps we should bear that in mind.
Kowtowing to any royal is bad enough, but that pair?

I kowtow to no one! , it’s demeaning and for women holds a particularly negative message….i can understand if it’s culturally relevant but I still think it’s definitely not appropriate for women to do it to their partners…it’s supposed to be equal.
as for royalty…no not in this day and age…..and definitely not to faux royals.

Obviously you didn't read my post.

They are undoubtedly flawed, they have undoubtedly cocked up massively at times

No, I don’t mean that easy route. “We are all imperfect”.

I mean occasionally acknowledging specific things. For example, many here pointed out that Charlotte Griffiths wrote an article saying Harry and Meghan leaked an important event then blamed the leak on palace staff. The article had some other shocking accusations, also.

Not one of the posters that defend them would acknowledge the allegations or even the article. It was almost comical because each time it came up, folks would either change the subject or disappear.

No one could just say, “Gosh and golly, that’s awful if true and really makes some of what people say about them often leaking more understandable.”

You are making assumptions there Jeff !

You said it ! , I replied! , are you now saying that you don’t? , then why did you state you did?

I assume you are referring to the white pill that Harry put in her mouth?
yes very strange that , that is brushed under the carpet!!

I admire how they’re trying to manifest working royal status, and agree it might briefly look convincing to those who don’t really take an interest. But I don’t think they’ll be able to sustain it over the next few weeks when the working royals are busy with state visits and dinners, Aberfan commemorations, trip to India for Earthshot, Remembrance, carols, and church on Christmas morning. H+M will have what - the memory of 100 people corralled by roadworks fencing and a plastic chair in Nottingham. Photos of Meghan in a high street coat that she has either forgotten to snip the vent on, or is planning to return to the shop, vs actual royals in designer gowns and tiaras. Conversations with invited fans vs international diplomacy. Military uniforms all round at the Cenotaph as the RF leads the nation in remembrance - no sign of Harry. Instead the chance to watch him cosplaying Alan Partridge as he tells us all about being ‘a student of grief’. No sign of Meghan either, she’s too busy reading imaginary scripts 😬

It’s nice for them if they enjoy their ‘engagements’ but I do wonder what the point of them is. They’re not really centring the charities, so who gains? To me the whole thing just underlines the fact that they are not working royals, have no power or influence, no royal or military patronages, no contact with the rest of the family and are very unpopular with the public. They look a bit desperate trying to wriggle back into a life that they so publicly flounced away from and then slagged off. IMO.

(Incidentally wonder if the plan was to gently suggest that Charles had asked them to come back - not in so many words, keep it deniable - something like, yes they’re pretty surprised to be back too, but they felt it would have been churlish to refuse to help out when needed. Or something. If so, that plan was completely scuppered by KC3’s statement and now they just look stupid.)

Beautifully written that said I need to wipe the dripping sarcasm off my screen. But not as beautifully written as Hilary Mantle's piece way back when for the LRB when effectively she shined the light on the whole damn crumbling edifice.

Zara does not attend official events. Ascot, Christmas at Sandringham—these are private family events, even if some parts of them take place in the public eye.

A royal Garden party, where members of the public are invited to attend, to gawp at members of the rf is not a private family event. And she has represented the royal family alongside William and Sophie at these on a number of occasions

To represent him means to act on his behalf, and Zara has never done that

See above. She does not attend these as a member of the public. She attends these as a member of the royal family representing them. I can dig out some pictures if you like! She looked very nice last time, I think she was in pale blue.

And you think sitting in a horse drawn carriage parading up the length of Ascot racecourse along with other royals is a private family event?

Zara doesn't carry out royal engagements on her own or with her husband. That's what Harry and Meghan are doing. Which is totally out of order. And HAM have also been sending a list to the press of their public engagements.

As much as your craw no doubt sticketh, I'm afraid there are plenty of people around the world who see Harry and Meghan, in their own imperfect way, as a force for good. And that, my friend, is a problem for the Palace, because it throws shade on the remaining Royal Family.

The late Queen's decision to let them step back from royal duties didn't make them disappear. Quite the opposite. Here we are.
In the age of social media, perception can become reality, regardless of what Letters Patent or constitutional technicalities might say. You can argue about their formal status until the cows come home, but you can't legislate away public perception.

Although not the US, Canada, and Australia.

No, that’s not something I expect them to acknowledge at all. I’d faint.

But this was recent, tangible and easy to go back and see as it unfolded. Unlike the white pill, one could probably come up with a defense for the leak (but not the blaming of staff.)

But no, the name Charlotte Griffiths to a supporter of the pair is like garlic to a vampire.

She's referring to a story published by journalist Charlotte Griffiths, an editor-at-large at the Mail on Sunday, about an alleged encounter with Prince Harry in 2011.
Griffiths claimed that, during a country-house shooting weekend, Harry put a small white pill on her tongue and said something along the lines of, “Now I know I can trust you.” She said she discreetly removed it afterwards and believed it was probably paracetamol, rather than anything more sinister.

Well she was very much “in” , and feted for the support she gave them….then came the court case …..now she’s “out” and spilling the considerable beans she accumulated over a decade of close contact! , I imagine that there is considerable concern about what she might reveal……so no longer feted and best ignored by the royalists!

Ah so the rules have changed! It's fine being half in and out as long as you only do engage with "working" royals.

I don't think harry and Meghan should have been half in and out. But neither do I think Zara and mike should be.

CG famously embarrassed Harry by sharing his text messages including “miss our movie snuggles xxx” - after he had lied in court about being friends with her.

You must have some time as you are contributing to the thread? The media give them attention because readers consume it, just like this thread….

I think you have misunderstood the idiom I used there. "To have no time for someone/something" means you disapprove of it, or dislike it. I have not said I have no actual time to spend on a thread like this.

And yes, I am very well aware that I am a consumer of the Meghan and Harry media circus. It’s one of many things I am a consumer of - in the modern world, it is hard to avoid entirely.

I get it 👍🏼. That's why I dislike Meghan's Trad Wife shtick. All the flower petals and being in the kitchen, and fashion and clinging on to her man.
Also having a coronet on her notepaper and being addressed by her title?
Disappointing, really.

People haven’t forgiven or forgotten in respect of Charles though, have they? As your post just now demonstrates.

Whereas some of us don’t have much time for dishonest hypocrites - even if they like to cast themselves as underdogs while having the world’s media hanging on their every word because of the clicks they bring, and who largely confine their attacks to people that they know are highly unlikely to publicly defend themselves - but we’re all different, aren’t we?

You certainly do have a lot of time as you post alot abou them. Most people who say they don't have time dor things, their actions show they don't but your action days the opposite..some would say its hypcrocrisy

You are missing the whole point!!, it was revealed because he lied and said he wasn’t friends with her , hardly knew her and definitely wouldn’t have contacted her……I don’t recall Charles ever saying in court that Camilla was a complete stranger? Do you?

Yeah, I'm going to say that's not great, Harry sounds awful. Plus - paracetamol isn't always safe!
God what an appalling man.

She is the cat’s mother. I’m not sure if you meant Jeff or me.

The allegation that they leaked and blamed the palace is in the same article. Along with the point that they have a WhatsApp group for tipping off the media and paparazzi.

For me it’s good evidence that they routinely do this and have done for a long time.

And now it’s the time for the snark.

This is what HaMsupporters do. It’s in their rule book. When someone mentions valid criticism of HaM, they have a list of things they bring up instead to distract and justify.

As if having one’s private conversation, (which had been purposefully twisted for decades now) leaked to the world is worthy of derision, and makes any public backstabbing thing your own son does eternally acceptable.
