The royal family

H&M are currently doing a ‘Royal’ walkabout thing in Nottingham.

A crowd has turned out to see them. It’s currently being covered live on Sky News. Why on earth would anyone do this?

They aren’t working royals. They are just a pair of chancers who have scuttled back to Britain with their tails between their legs because they have died on their arses in the US. And now people are tugging their forelocks to them here.

People really are absolute fucking morons.

Could you not just say 'what a nice comment' without having to undermine what the very worthy Charity actually said?

Especially when the Charity is encouraging people on World Food Day to think of others.

You don’t get to tell people what to post, I’m afraid.

We know very well that Meghan and Harry seek to control what the people they visit say about them - the disclaimer they sent to a school in Harlem was published, Dr Sophie Chandauka has publicly stated that Prince Harry asked her to issue a statement of behalf of Sentable to push back on public criticism that Meghan was receiving for her actions at a Sentable event.

A nice comment made by someone isn’t always something you can take at face value from this couple. I’m always interested at what lies behind the PR.

Royalists, as such, have a set of rules: first, hope they spectacularly fail. Failing that, resort to complex constitutional formulae about what they are entitled to do and when. And when that fails, resort to snark.
Those are the rules.

And this is a good example of the many posts people write to undermine and frustrate others

✅ Name calling
✅ Talking about other posters to get a reaction while pretending it’s directed to one poster
✅ Using snark while accusing snark

I'm not telling you what to post. You always post what you want, as do I.

I am commenting on what you posted, as you do frequently with me. I just think you undermined what a Charity said about their work and a visit on World Food Day, and I didn't like it, I thought it was mean in relation to the Charity.. My prerogative to have this opinion.

I disagree, because surely it's the hardline royalists who support the Sussexes? They're the worst kind of royalty, greedy, arrogant, entitled and self absorbed. Like it's the 18thC or something.
You've got to buy into the whole hereditary business to kowtow to this pair.

It would be normal for any PR that supports an endeavour to go through some sort of collaborative discussion before it is publically released. There's nothing remotely conspiratorial or controlling in that.

As much as your craw no doubt sticketh, I'm afraid there are plenty of people around the world who see Harry and Meghan, in their own imperfect way, as a force for good. And that, my friend, is a problem for the Palace, because it throws shade on the remaining Royal Family.

I’m sure there are! We see them on here all the time, after all. 😀

I also know that there are plenty of people around the world who see Meghan and Harry as only out for themselves. And that is a problem for Meghan and Harry, because they need to be able to continue to find revenue streams and ways of occupying themselves, and in large part that is dependent on finding people who are willing to fund them - whether directly or through their business ventures.

As time goes on we get to see which way the pendulum swings. The momentum is not currently with the Sussexes, I’m afraid, but I’m always interested to see what happens next!

I kowtow to no one except my partner. My only dog in this race is a general tendency to support the underdog and the imperfect and Harry is undoubtedly both. The sheer vitriol poured onto him and Meghan makes me all the more inclined to defend them, at least in this context. It's not about blind allegiance; it's about fairness, perspective and refusing to join the pile-on

It is controlling if they effectively gag the representatives of the endeavour, which Meghan and Harry have done in the past (as we know from what they required people to sign).

What have they got to sell? Their Royal titles, and those of their children.
Is the next step is a reality show, perhaps? At Home with the Sussexes.? I know she previously tried out for Made in Chelsea, but didn't make the cut, so it obviously appeals.

That is exactly me!
I think they have been bullied unbelievably. They are undoubtedly flawed, they have undoubtedly cocked up massively at times, but the absolute hate relentlessly poured onto them is beyond a joke and I've always been one to be aware of the underdog.

Actually no snark there. Descriptive and honest.

Snark would be writing a post to someone who agrees with me as if I’m educating them about your motives and antics. And calling you a name that indicates you are part of a brainwashed team with an agenda, rather than a person with their own thoughts and feelings about what is unfolding. I think you are the latter, probably.

Then you are both stuck in a Chinese finger trap. The way out is occasionally admitting some of their flaws. It’s very freeing and will bore most people here to the point they stop responding and trying to convince you.

Whereas some of us don’t have much time for dishonest hypocrites - even if they like to cast themselves as underdogs while having the world’s media hanging on their every word because of the clicks they bring, and who largely confine their attacks to people that they know are highly unlikely to publicly defend themselves - but we’re all different, aren’t we?

Underdog? Multimillionaire Royalty? Ok.
I thought they could leave the RF and do their own thing and good luck to them.
You don't think they've been involved in vitriol and bullying? Cos I'm going to say some of the stuff they've said and done is really nasty. So I got a bit 🤔
I don't hate them, I don't respect people just because they're titled and I don't respect people who use their titles in that way.
I wish they could find a positive way forward, I really do.

You must have some time as you are contributing to the thread? The media give them attention because readers consume it, just like this thread….

I know. However some posters may be from societies and faiths with traditional gender roles, so perhaps we should bear that in mind.
Kowtowing to any royal is bad enough, but that pair?

Precisely, and the same goes for the rest of them. There's a perfectly respectable argument for the constitutional role of the British monarchy, and for sticking with the devil you know, archaic foibles and all. But the vanity, family pettiness and frankly banal behaviour of much of the current mob inevitably leave the public wondering: is this really a family we should respect, let alone look up to?
Meanwhile, the Harry and Meghan show is big box office, love it or hate it. The custodians of the institution would be better advised, in my humble opinion, to ignore them and concentrate on blowing the golden trumpets of those who remain inside the fold. Instead, they seem determined to keep the feud alive, giving the Sussexes yet more oxygen and keeping them firmly in the public eye.
But it's a free country!

LookOutLookOutTomCruiseIsAbout · Yesterday 12:51

I admire how they’re trying to manifest working royal status, and agree it might briefly look convincing to those who don’t really take an interest. But I don’t think they’ll be able to sustain it over the next few weeks when the working royals are busy with state visits and dinners, Aberfan commemorations, trip to India for Earthshot, Remembrance, carols, and church on Christmas morning. H+M will have what - the memory of 100 people corralled by roadworks fencing and a plastic chair in Nottingham. Photos of Meghan in a high street coat that she has either forgotten to snip the vent on, or is planning to return to the shop, vs actual royals in designer gowns and tiaras. Conversations with invited fans vs international diplomacy. Military uniforms all round at the Cenotaph as the RF leads the nation in remembrance - no sign of Harry. Instead the chance to watch him cosplaying Alan Partridge as he tells us all about being ‘a student of grief’. No sign of Meghan either, she’s too busy reading imaginary scripts 😬

It’s nice for them if they enjoy their ‘engagements’ but I do wonder what the point of them is. They’re not really centring the charities, so who gains? To me the whole thing just underlines the fact that they are not working royals, have no power or influence, no royal or military patronages, no contact with the rest of the family and are very unpopular with the public. They look a bit desperate trying to wriggle back into a life that they so publicly flounced away from and then slagged off. IMO.

(Incidentally wonder if the plan was to gently suggest that Charles had asked them to come back - not in so many words, keep it deniable - something like, yes they’re pretty surprised to be back too, but they felt it would have been churlish to refuse to help out when needed. Or something. If so, that plan was completely scuppered by KC3’s statement and now they just look stupid.)

I have no time for royalty. I have even less time for royals who aren't even loyal to the UK and spend time slagging everything off. Irritating.
They can do what they want. They're middle aged people and the coffers are getting low. Good luck with the jam or whatever. I just don't know why some people treat them as saints.
