A crowd has turned out to see them. It’s currently being covered live on Sky News. Why on earth would anyone do this?

They aren’t working royals. They are just a pair of chancers who have scuttled back to Britain with their tails between their legs because they have died on their arses in the US. And now people are tugging their forelocks to them here.

People really are absolute fucking morons.

Telling someone they shouldn’t post about a known situation in a locale because they are not from the right place is like “go back where you came from” in my opinion.

Also humorous given that Bemused is from perhaps the most talked about city in the world and I am sure is quite accustomed to hearing inaccurate and unsolicited opinions.

Harry was trained to do this work. The Royal Family is extraordinarily wealthy, and if Harry is expected to earn his keep, then surely the late Queen and/or Charles could have ensured that he and his family were comfortably provided for, without all the fuss.

But Harry chose to earn his own living, while Uncle Andrew continues to be looked after on the royal estate pretty much ion his purse and mummy’s money and the loot he earned by selling state secrets to convicted felons. If you want to criticise someone over money and responsibility, perhaps direct that criticism at the monarch and his tight purse strings, rather than at Harry and Meghan, who are actually working for a living. Inasmuch as people need to earn a living where someone has to pay them for their labour, or they starve.

It’s strange to be impressed by Harry earning his own living by lying, grifting and moaning. Hardly worthy of respect.

Quite.
I found that particular reply quite rude and unnecessarily sneery, especially given Bemused had made a valid, factual point.

You have said ‘there has been a rat problem ongoing but it has been prioritised’ (you did not say resolved) reads to me that it is still ongoing.

These things are hard to clear up quickly so no-one is pointing fingers.

@BemusedAmerican is correct by what you have said. There is a rat situation ongoing.

They are doing their very best to deal with it by all accounts and yes, they have better things to spend money on than hosting Invictus.

valeriy2 · Yesterday 21:39

Benjithedog · Yesterday 21:29

It true that it has a rat problem as the council is having serious issues with refuse collections. That is fact.

Edited

I have had rats in my garden but I started feeding the local foxes and now no rats. Could be a solution since we the people stopped the Royals and others hunting them and ripping the noble beasts to pieces. The £500 million we spend on them could probably solve the national problem in it's tracks. I had a check - Royals or rats since we are into binary choices !

I would budget approximately £150m–£300m a year for continuing national control, maintenance, monitoring and targeted extermination after the initial programme.
That is roughly £2–£4.50 per person annually, based on a UK population of around 69 million.

Quite rude, then the subsequent attack on NYC was not the gotcha moment that was intended.

So how should he earn his money that he needs to take care of himself and his family work in MacDonalds ? Of course he trades off his heritage he is faced with no other choice. By all means criticise him but at least respect he has had to make hard choices that bring home the crust.

Seriously, you do not know Birmingham and what you call a 'rat situation'. It's rude to talk about this in such a derogatory way when you have no idea about Birmingham, its Councils, the bin strikes, which caused a problem. Yes, there are problems but Birmingham City Council is addressing it. There are council managed assessments out there trying to solve this situation, as an aftermath of the bin strikes.

I would not dream of coming on a US forum and talking about problems in your hometown NewYork city. That would just be very rude.

It has nothing to do with Invictus. Criticise the couple all you wish but please stop trying to score cheap points.

Edited

It’s immaterial if you think it’s “rude” for @BemusedAmerican to voice her opinion on Birmingham, she is free to say whatever she likes within talk guidelines, I think it’s incredibly rude of you to tell her off in the manner you have frankly.

dulwich999 · Yesterday 22:03

He would have had no hard choices to make if he hadn’t been so nasty and entitled in the first place.

He still doesn’t have hard choices to make in the big scheme of things. He has plenty of money to live comfortably for the rest of his days. He doesn’t want that. He wants more.

If he was on his uppers? Why shouldn’t he work in McDonalds? There is nothing wrong with that.

Respect is earned. And only a fool would respect a fool.

He should do what other posh boys and girls do when they don’t have any main particular skill or work experience and use the aristocratic network to get a ‘director’ position at a city firm which requires a couple of days in the office and lots of schmoozing clients - and then cut his cloth according to his means in terms of lifestyle choices.

Unfortunately that ship has probably sailed as the book and Netflix documentary has made him look petty, vindictive and disloyal which makes him a hard sell for a favour.

It was a short term gain - probably still in the heat of anger at not being allowed the half in position he wanted but it’s definitely burned more bridges than just his immediate family.

BemusedAmerican · Yesterday 22:44

I also spent the entire summer of 2025 dealing with a rat problem at my job site. I had to work with our exterminator and landscapers as well as our neighbors as rats were nesting in the trees, running across the walkways and digging holes in broad daylight. The entire neighborhood was overrun.

The previous mayor even appointed a rat czar. They are trialing special bins which will eventually knock out lots of parking around the city but which do indeed seem to be working. You can also attend city sponsored virtual rat academies. People are encouraged to get leptosprirosis vaccines for the dogs since its spread from rats to dogs through puddles. Fortunately our rats are Norwegian rats and don't spread plague.

NYC has had several garbage strikes. The most famous one was in 1968. You can easily Google for pictures and info.

BemusedAmerican · Yesterday 22:56

I actually work in a upscale neighborhood. However someone nearby to my job site died, the estate went into probate, and the house eventually became a rat motel. The rats multiplied and spread.

Another job site was in a very large, very old building. They had to close it, find and seal all holes, and kill the rats inside.

Any city is going to have these problems. The special bin situation seems to be working but will be costly to implement. Maybe Birmingham should contact our rat czar.

Why not ? There are plenty of other jobs he could do. It’s called living with the consequences of your actions and he is no exception.

Birmingham had bin strikes and a serious rat issue….but apparently bemused can’t mention it because she’s American…..perhaps as a Brit …you shouldn’t have made countless threads discussing trump and American politics then! ….don’t tell me that’s different….its not rude when you do it! ….hypocrite!

This is not how the rat problem started in Birmingham. Violent crime is up and the city is facing extremely difficult times. That is fact. The council is bankrupt and they should be spending what little resources they have on the people who actually live there not two has-beens who are on a ego trip

Think you may have the wrong poster - I don’t believe I’ve “criticised someone over money and responsibility”. I was responding to someone suggesting that it would be just the same for any celebrity couple walking down the street. I don’t believe any other celebrity couple would arrange an event like this, nor would crowds gather spontaneously, because famous people tend to be left alone when out and about. (Like when the PoW goes on the tube with Charlotte.)

I agree that Harry could have stayed to do the work he was trained for in return for a very comfortable life, as he used to, but he chose to leave and be financially independent, good for him. I’m not sure what that has to do with the trip to Nottingham though. That work, representing the king as a working royal, isn’t available to him now, so presumably nobody was paying him to shake hands with the fans. And I hope he wasn’t getting paid to visit the charities either. That’s what’s so odd about the walkabout to me, it wasn’t work, the crowds were tiny even though they advertised it in advance, they weren’t getting paid, they feel they are at risk, it didn’t seem to be about the charities, what was the point?

jeffgoldblum · Yesterday 23:36

@simpsonthecat…where are you? …come back and explain why it’s perfectly fine for you to start threads and post multiple times about American politics and shit all over trump ….but apparently it’s rude of bemusedAmerican to mention bin strikes and rats in Birmingham? …I’m waiting for you to explain why it’s ok for you but not others!!!

Are you basically saying that people cannot have knowledge of and an opinion on things they unless they are personally witness to it ? That's a bit of a strange idea.
Better call William Shirer then and tell him his book is shite 🤷‍♀️
