Was it you who mentioned at the start of the posts re the Claridges meet that you had misgivings about Malala because of her selective support of some issues but not others? Someone did, and I've been meaning to do a bit more research on her and her stances on different feminist issues. She's always been a bit of a saint-icon on the periphery of my interest, but now I'm looking a bit harder.

No, I saw that but didn’t write it. It made me think though. I think most people held up that was are probably just normal people with the same flaws as the rest of us.

jollygreenpea · 11/10/2026 18:58

I have to said I was surprised to see Malala there, she's a very intelligent woman. I find it hard to believe she allowed herself to be used by Markles.

BasiliskStare · 11/10/2026 19:04

@Lifestooshort71 - hello . I like @jeffgoldblum double check the user name 😊
@Rhaidimiddim - Re the dog bowl incident , I give you this 😂 Now , people can have more than one dog bowl I'll admit , but here https://www.hellomagazine.com/homes/20230106161007/prince-harry-meghan-markle-kitchen-nottingham-cottage/

One thing I will say is , to be fair , when M's outfit cost comes out at a silly amount of money , I think the cost of her watch which was a present from her DH and she wears all the time should be deducted. It detracts from a more serious argument. I don't think what M wears in public is beyond comment because one of her commercial ventures is selling outfits she wears on Only One , in which she is an investor. (No idea whether the Claridge's one was on there )

If M is giving 1 day's worth of net profits to Malala's charity , well good. Where I think the PR has failed is that she appears to have spent more on items of clothing, afternoon tea , never mind about the security guards, on being photographed outside Claridge's with Malala than one day of sales ( I think) will generate. It does look like a PR stunt ( to me)

Thanks for the new thread Jeff

Regarding the three car convoys, it occurs to me - has Meghan ever been photographed driving? On the Oprah interview wasn't one of her complaints that the Royal Family/MIG machine confiscated her driving licence along with her passport and assorted other items (?keys)? I think I've seen a photo of Harry driving in Monecito/LA but I can't ever recall seeing evidence of Meghan driving. Maybe she lost the ability when she married in. Obviously she loves the importance of having a driver along with her security but I find it very odd. Most of the Royals seem to value independence and drive, either with Security as a passenger or following behind in another car. Princess Anne has been fined for speeding. I've seen The King driving, near Tetbury, security following behind. The Queen loved to drive. Princess Diana used to drive. Catherine drives.
Only Meghan seems to have lost the ability. I find it rather affected and feeble.

I thought that the Sandringham agreement included no commercial activity in the UK? That’s certainly what Fergie had for a long time.

Never heard that. It would be a bit strange to require that of them as it would mean they were not able to earn a living unless they were outside of the UK, effectively exiling them. I'm also not sure how it's legally possible to ban people from commercial activities.

Charles even underlined in his clarification that that are private individuals with their own commercial and charitable interests. So, clearly they are free to pursue their own commercial activities.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was no commercial activity using HRH or in other words using their titles directly for commercial use.

@ShamedBySiri I'm pretty sure M was filmed driving during the WLM series - I think to the flower market.

There won't be a market in the UK, so many myself included make up own jam especially this time of year & there is a massive artisan jam market. The likes of Daylesford etc have captured the luxury market..

Daylesford would have gone bankrupt years ago, without continuous Bamford cash injections.

They're not permitted to use HRH in any public context. As for linking the title Duchess to commercial activities I don't think it's a condition of the Sandringham agreement that she can't and Meghan was using it on the Instagram post with Malala in a supposedly charitable context, but she still sneaked the subliminal message "buy my jam!" in.

I wonder is she hoping places like Harrods or farmhouse in the Cotswolds will become As Ever stockists as I doubt she will get much UK business from online alone.
Many here in the UK wouldn't associate Meghan with As Ever & may just see it as posh jam & purchase? Could work to her advantage if she finds stockists?

AlwaysRightISwear · 11/10/2026 19:44

the worst thing about those trousers was that they were too long. She looked as if she was going to trip over the hems. The width was not my style at all but they are having a bit of a fashion moment I think.

FancyKitten · 11/10/2026 19:47

I’ve always noticed that about artisan food or beauty brands. Unless there’s big money behind it (which there initially was with As Ever & Netflix) it’s not gonna last. Even successful fashion designers will tell you that. There needs to heavy bankrolling, to keep it going.

Too late to edit but that should say Soho Farmhouse!

They most likely have 10 years before William is King. That's a long time to grift

fridaynightzzz · 11/10/2026 20:08

Her food doesn’t make our standards does it - jam that isn’t jam, chocolates that didn’t declare may contain nuts…..

bluegreygreen · 11/10/2026 20:10

Re Malala: she may regret the association.

One of the Royal YouTubers has decided to have a look at the finances of the Malala Fund.

Who owns Harrods these days?
Fortnum & Mason stock Highgrove products, so she's not getting in there.
I don't think the US version of the jamspread was very posh, was it? Not handpicked organic or anything. Where is she sourcing the products for the UK market? Setting up her own production line? (Doubtful) Buying in bulk from an existing producer? Flying it in from the US, when we make perfectly good jam here? No doubt there are already journalists looking into it.
Whatever, I don't see supermarkets queueing up to stock it when there are plenty of quality homegrown products.

Her UK business model will be interesting as I can't imagine online sales will be good here. Jam is a big deal in the UK with people enjoying making their own & a saturated luxury jam market.. where is she going to fit in & Highgrove is our royal brand...
Independent local farm shops perhaps? Pop up stores?

Two interesting photos from social media today of Catherine and Charlotte riding the Elizabeth Line with low key security

bluegreygreen · 11/10/2026 20:19

The only UK media outlets that I can see that have published the Catherine & Charlotte video are the Sun and Hello.

Other outlets have left it well alone.

There is still plenty of comment against it on TwiX.

ETA Crossposted with @WilliamsExtraSausage. The images/video were apparently originally a TikTok from a fellow commuter, given an exclusive story in the Sun by Matt Wilkinson.
He's getting a lot of criticism on TwiX, and I suspect the Sun may have breached Clause 6 of the Editors' Code.

TheOvertGardener · 11/10/2026 20:24

Know they shouldn’t have published it but it is lovely to see them just having a normal experience.

It seemed like Charlotte clocked the person making the video.

As part of an episode, I think you are right.

But IRL, I don’t recall.
