Where I absolutely agree with you is that University , academic qualifications are not the be all and end all. People have many different qualities and some of those don't include passing exams. Couldn't agree more.
This has been my belief too, for many years now.
University is the path forward for those who are aspiring to academic careers. Following a path in life that allows a person's natural inclination, talent and skills can bring just as much fulfillment in life.
I feel that H either hasn't discovered yet what his natural path forward is, or he thinks he has, and is currently beating us over the head with it.
Perhaps, for many various reasons, he feels that he will find his true path in the UK; he's had 6 years to think about it.
However for some, success and true happiness come later in life, after years of trying things that didn't work out.
Meanwhile, I also agree that H is indeed offering up his own personal feelings and experiences way too much, making up for his lack of knowledge in any given subject, even one as important as MH, as it is easier than doing the research.
I believe he feels strongly that the public really want to hear all about him, which is predictable and monotonous; and hard to continue making a living from.
