Still interested, still not bored….a small request please 🙏…can we try to keep criticism to actions and behaviour and rather than getting personal.😁

This was the Buckingham Palace statement, with the note to editors about which Royal patronages were removed

It is a performative, wealthy saviour form of charity. No idea why Malala got involved.

I too have wondered why Malala got involved.
I can only think that the meetup must have been presented to her very differently to the impression that we have received via pap photos, and any inside information.

When I saw that table laden with overpriced tea cakes etc, I could only feel that it was wrong on such a fundamental level.

Of course meeting in a luxury hotel no one could expect anything less.
However when you add in the extremely expensive and definitely noteworthy outfit purchased for the meeting, and the fact that the side entrance to avoid photographs of them both wasn't chosen, and when you know Ms great desire for security, it just screams the usual message "look at me"!

It is such a shame that H&M aren't self aware of how they come across, time and time again.

Nothing wrong with meeting in a luxury hotel. Plenty of people do it. Myself and my friends go for tea in luxuy hotels in London instead of coffee shops from time to time. Sometimes I'll go to hotels for cocktails too. Its just a nicer, quiter environment.

As for expensive outfits plenty of us could say the same too. Let's see today I had on clothes from Reiss approx £800 worth, lets also add in my jewellery a diamond ring worth £5k, my designer handbag £3k as its Chanel. Most of us have iPhones or expensive smartphones costing upwards of £800 and if you add in a smartwatch or an iPad its even more.

If someone can afford to buy it and wear it that is their choice, their money. Policing how people spend their own hard-earned money...shesh. Just because you wouldn't spend you money that way doesn't mean its okay to criticise others on how they spend theirs.

I must move in poor circles because nobody I know spends £800 on a phone!

I would agree with this, @LifeIsTooShort247 - I think if it includes your jewellery, watch and handbag, the total can seem high. Nothing wrong with a luxury hotel, they can have more space and privacy.
If I was meeting Malala I'd take her to the Dorchester for dinner if she wanted!

Hard earned ? You referring to Meghan??

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 11/10/2026 16:28

I wouldn’t have a serious meeting in a see through top, but as we know, they are not serious people

I'm actually not surprised she got involved, but to stay on topic, it seems like a big palaver for a very small return.

So 'net proceeds' from a single day's sales of tea as well as 'jam', which Meghan doesn't actually sell will go to charity? Big deal. We know 'As Ever' isn't shifting huge quantities so that is not going to be much money. Far less than was spent on that day out in Claridges, especially when you include the 3 car convoy. And as you say, she deliberately chose to use the front entrance knowing she was going to be photographed. Same antics she favoured as a wannabe small time actress a decade ago. You think she'd be above that sort of thing now, what with her being a Duchess and all that!

Good chance to get in a bit of bragging there, though.

It doesn't matter how much the outfit cost, it was a faux pas. Meghan has a fabulous figure & should invest in the services of a good tailor to get these expensive items fitted to her shape or else go straight to designer for made to measure clothes.

She has had some really good fashion moments but this wasn't one of them.

But this wasn't a private meeting of friends was it? The photos taken at the tea are being used to promote a charity day for the education of girls living in poverty. It seems wrong to flaunt your wealth and spend £200 on tea an cake.

It's like hosting a 7 course banquet for world hunger day! 🙄

I said most because most do have iPhones or a Samsung and thats what they cost regardless of buying it outright or via a contract where its baked in. Most doesn't mean all.

I am not policing other posters at all, I am simply saying its wrong to criticise someone for buying clothes if they can afford them as its their money to spend as they wish. Should we start judging you on how you spend your money or the job you do, what you wear etc.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 11/10/2026 16:46

What about your shoes ? Waiting with bated breath 😉

smilesy · 11/10/2026 16:47

If they have money to spend on clothes and luxuries, why do they seem to want taxpayers to fund security for them? Surely they should budget for that first?

Honestly going for tea or a cocktail in these hotels is generally on par with the cost of going to a good bar or coffee place. So why not go to nice hotels instead. Lots of people go for afternoon tea too.

Especially as there is no way either of them will have tucked into that spread (as I would have done, for example!)
Ostentatious waste of money.

TheOvertGardener · 11/10/2026 16:52

It’s not the price of the clothing for me but the fact that all put together it looks like a costume and the overall picture leaves the sense that it was not a simple tea with a friend but a performance. A spectacle for the masses, if you will.

Same here! I work hard for my money and spend it as I wish, though not on stupidly expensive things (I would say that of course 😄) Anyone is free to criticise me for aspects of that, and I'm free to ignore them. Same goes for Meghan. Freedom of speech, I think it's called. If you think talk guidelines have been broken, please do report.

Is it really? I don’t live in London and would be hard pressed to find a place where I could spend that kind of dosh at a coffee place.

I don’t think that’s reality for most people, even in the western world.

Half on half off.

Wouldn’t be wanting half in half out so much here I suppose.

Or would they?
