Earl Spencer’s book seems to focus heavily on his eulogy at Diana’s funeral and his thoughts and feelings, even though it was purportedly about Diana. So it isn’t such a stretch to think that a documentary about Diana could be based around how the children feel about her 🤷‍♀️

Someone wrote an absolutely brilliant “ review” of the book . Wish I could remember his name !

Talking to pictures of Diana
Little hands on the gravestone
Having dreams about her
Being inspired by her
"They're the grandchildren she never met and she would have been so proud"

Pretty sure she would have been proud of all 5 of her grandchildren.

Don't forget baby Archie being shown a photo of Diana on the wall and mumma talking to him about her

KilkennyCats · 29/09/2026 15:27

Why would a Diana documentary focus heavily on grandchildren she’d never met? These kids are completely irrelevant.

Can't you see it? They are Diana's only true incarnations. Obviously Megs is too. Look, forget the trapped and institutionalised Waleses. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are carrying the Spencer torch. Alongside Megs, obvs.

Scorchio84 · 29/09/2026 16:56

CoffeeCantata · 29/09/2026 08:03

Definitely!

I remember when the BBC did a drama about Henry VIII and cast Ray Winstone as H. Sounds ridiculous, but it brought out exactly the crude, macho, 'I'm hard, me' message you describe!

Oh is it good Coffee? I might watch the Jude Law one later, Firebrand, not heard much about it but I like him generally

Scorchio84 · 29/09/2026 17:16

Mylovelygreendress · 29/09/2026 09:20

Oh this should be good 😎

As an aside I love Entourage so the fact that this Ari is the basis for Entourage Ari says probably everything you need to know 😂

It was a while ago, but it certainly gave a different perspective on Henry! After Keith Michell, Robert Shaw etc. He was definitely burly and rather threatening.

Oh, I totally see it from HAM’s perspective, of course. It’s just perplexing why anyone is willing to pour money into yet another pile of shite vanity project of theirs when their previous efforts were such abject failures.

Disease mental and physical both in the ruler and society as a whole. Both Mary Queen of Scots and James II had mental collapses at crisis points in their reigns that meant they couldn't be as effective as they needed to be.

Not just syphilis, the Black Death in Britain triggered a lot of changes in English society. I recall reading some very interesting discussions about where syphilis came from - did the sailors bring it back from the New World or did they introduce it there?

I wonder if we might do a spin-off thread (either on this board or on the History Club board) about these kinds of fascinating things, @MrsDanversGlidesAgain (and others)?

We could use it to discuss the weird and wonderful historical subjects that have come up on here, but can be a bit ‘deraily’ to some posters, everything from Latin to the historical genetics of syphilis and Henry VIII’s medical issues!

She's not going to 'launch' herself until Harry is safe on the ground, ie back in the bosom of the RF and/or the British populace

If true that's actually good news, in that the very thougtht of Meghan launching herself again over here might just be enough to guarantee the RF keeping Harry well away too

As for Plastic Scobie repeating his idiocy ... given that he was the one who named Charles and Catherine as the "royal racists", do H&M really think it'll help to have him prattling on their behalf again?

Doubless they'll claim that what he says has nothing to do with them, but we've heard that before too

I don’t think she in particular has many supporters left, she’s having to use his old workplace ‘closer’ as her mouthpiece

Love Ray W and his acting vey much but we often laugh about his ‘cockney ‘accent as Henry V111 - Aeyan Aeyan I love you Aeyan 🤣 but then we are childish Northeners.

I enjoyed Ray Winstone’s depiction. Who is to say that Henry VIII didn’t have a ‘London’ accent? We imagine that all royals must have spoken RP throughout the annals of time but as we have no recordings it is impossible to know how they sounded.

Yes, and wasn't it Closer (or a sister rag) who published the topless photos of Catherine on holiday in France?

Yet another poor choice if so, but nothing new there

I honestly don't know why anyone platform would touch them. Pissing off the monarch and particularly the future one is a terrible idea. PW may in the future want to work with a streaming giant, Amazon, Netflix, etc.

Everyone here enjoyed the Latin. If it moved, it would be missed.
