It's very odd isn't it? Apparently he's dyslexic but that shouldn't impact him. The only thing H has going for him is his title. He has zero charisma, talent, personality, wit, skills. He should be praying PW doesn't take the title when he's king

Maybe Harry got that from Diana who wasn't at all well read or intellectual.

Diana (and I'm not and have never been a fan) made up for it with hard work and studying what was required of her in her role; and she undoubtedly had charisma that made up for any deficiencies in education.

Not just Major Johnny - he had two former heads of MI5 sitting either side of him behind them!

Passing Meghan copies of the notes they have on her perhaps? Grin

Never mind the couple's thunderous expressions when finding they've been seated badly though - it's the curled lips of the congregation members they pass that always amuse me. If looks could kill ...

That is what is so astonishing about Harry. Prince Philip and Charles all have and had considerable and wide ranging intellectual interests - but apparently none of that rubbed off on Harry.

if I were royal you'd have to drag me out of the archives with wild horses.

It’s not even ‘intellectual’ interests. They are passionate about all kinds of things like nature or agricultural. They have made good use of their privileges to pursue their interests. H reminds me of my MIL and BIL. They have no intellectual curiosity yet still claim to be experts on everything.

Al-Fayed was specifically looking to make royal connections. Him leasing the Villa Windsor wasn't an "organic" connection.

Oh yes, he was definitely doing it 'by design' (i.e. plotting). It seems bizarre that al-Fayed was allowed to get so close that summer in 1997 to William (the heir's heir) and Harry. (Diana was clearly a law to herself by then.) If we minions all knew al-Fayed was dodgy as hell, goodness knows what the security services had on him. Or have I been watching too many espionage films again??

I agree, but it’s typical of her. I don’t think she has any genuine, deep, longterm interests either (not in history, music, dance, environment, even actual drama!). I really do think she’s a hollow, shallow character who doesn’t even know who she is herself. She copies all the time.

A defender on another thread claimed she was passionate about food, but if you look at her history-especially The Tig- all it really amounts to is loving going to restaurants!

WellI’m sorry - but who doesn’t love going to nice restaurants? It’s hardly an original hobby or any kind of personal achievement.

She was an actress, her life was about being someone else so it's hardly surprising that she likes to portray herself as people who are recognisable and relevant to the story.

She certainly did, and made an effort to understand people she met.

Is there credible evidence she didn’t?

She supposedly picked up a lot of strange practices from China!

Quite!
Dyslexia isn’t related to IQ - that amazing astronomer Dame Maggie Aderin is highly dyslexic. It’s no excuse, Harry, especially now you’re a Big Boy.

And similarly, having intellectual interests doesn’t mean you’re Einstein. I have lots of them, but am only too aware I’m not the sharpest knife in the box! I don’t think Charles is necessarily super-bright but he’s always had a range of interests and clearly read deeply into them. Having such interests (the arts, music, architecture, history, politics, the environment etc) is a choice, not something limited by whether you’re Oxbridge material.

The China Dossier isn't secure evidence, for many reasons. It's highly unlikely that she ever took opium.

Charles has always been an avid reader, and prepared to learn from others. The problem is that Harry has no curiosity and is lazy.

"Supposedly" being the operative word. WS had travelled to China as a single woman, enjoyed herself a lot (if her autobiography is any guide) and had a lot of male friends. In 1930s Britain that was immediately enough for people who wanted to discredit her anyway to depict her as a loose living sexually experienced floozy who probably also took drugs as well.

How do you find credible evidence someone didn't do something?

The charge that she used opium is covered in this review

Well, quite! I've never used opium or scaled Everest, but I can't prove either.

And then the major problem on top of that is Meghan attempting to position herself and Harry as 'global thought leaders', which made them a laughing stock.

I suspect that Harry's dimwittedness comes from Diana, although there are also dimwit Windsors. I read in an excerpt from Charles Spencer's book describing how Diana failed all her O levels and was devastated. I'm pretty sure she was quoted saying that she was a dimwit and that Harry took after her.

William clearly takes after Charles and the other brighter people in the family, but Andrew is a dimwit with no interest in anything except women and golf and his trajectory through life has rather borne that out.

Hi @jeffgoldblum and all, thanks again for wishing me well. Flowers I’m alive!! I’m home!! And just catching up on the thread(s). Please ignore typos and daft errors in posts for a while, as I’m not feeling tip-top yet.

The current discussion on Wallis Simpson reminds me that she and David (Edward VIII) were good friends in Paris exile with Oswald Mosley and Diana (Mitford) Mosley. Diana wrote a biography of her that I’ve never read - has anyone else?

By the by, it’s Mosley money (said to have originally been stolen by Nazis from holocaust victims in WW2, and handed to Oswald Mosley, and inherited by his son Max Mosley) that’s alleged to have helped fund Hacked Off investigations and legal actions, with which Harry latterly became associated.

(I hope that vaguely makes sense.)

I’m glad you are home autumn 💐

Yes. I find a lack of curiosity is sometimes a form of arrogance - a sense of knowing it all or of dismissveness.

Yes, it was a dossier commissioned to discredit her. In the event, her favouring of the Nazi regime and close relationship to Ribbentrop actually rendered that unnecessary.

Yes, most of it debunked by more recent research.

Okay, maybe 'dimwit' is inaccurate, but I don't think she was especially bright or intellectually curious. She was certainly poorly educated, as was HM the late Queen. But to be a successful royal you don't have to be bright and well educated, you just have to learn the job, which both of them did, to dazzling effect.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/09/2026 12:53

Thanks, @Lunde; I'd been trying (and failed) to find the images of Meghan's "Oprah interview dress and Wallis's similar one, and there you've managed it Smile

It's the spiteful smirk on Meghan's face which gets to me though, and I'm afraid I fail to see any beauty in the expression of an assassin

Diana herself said she wasn't very bight academically. I would say that was neglect on her parents side though. She didn't have any guidance. In the right hands, it would have been different. However, she was whip smart and oozes charisma. I think William is like her in that way.

As far as I understand Diana was given the finest education money can buy: she went to one of the best boarding schools in England, then went onto an expensive finishing school. And yet the only qualification she got was a certificate for looking after a hamster! That speaks volumes as to her intelligence imho.
