A new thread and book not even published till Tuesday. I checked on Amazon and its only 12th on the non fiction bestseller list. Doesn't show Earl Spencer in a very good light imho.

Yes and I also don't believe he'd have been surly and unpleasant when Spencer told him not to attend the funeral, you wouldn't would you in such horrific circumstances and as PM said he knew there be every chance he was being recorded to use as ammunition against him.

In fact the lack of evidence for any of Spencer's claims is extraordinary for a 'historian' <or even a bad journalist>.

Yes, exactly. And I struggle to believe an editor of the press would even expect an invitation given the circumstances and the strength of feeling towards the tabloids. Even one as boorish as Morgan, whom Diana apparently considered to be a friend.

Actually I think his visit to the US this year was a good showcase of that. There is a CHOGM meeting taking place in November this year, so let’s see how that goes?

Really ? Now who is speculating and ‘psychic’

Of course only days ago Trump was encouraging Ireland’s reunification - Scotland to follow in leaving no doubt
. Get Charlie on the soft power something something …

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 23/09/2026 10:34

Trump only said about Ireland to avoid the shit show he’s made in the Middle East and the Epstein files.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 23/09/2026 10:36

The Royal family visited Ireland, it was quite a big deal when QE2 visited. There’s a plaque up in the English market in Cork and her speech was widely reported

Serenster · 23/09/2026 10:36

I think you are misinterpreting those words? Because I assure you there really is a CHOGM meeting in November! 🤣

And then I said “Let’s see how it goes” - i.e. it hasn’t yet happened so let’s wait for the event as we don’t know how it will go

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 23/09/2026 10:38

The RF don’t make diplomatic fuck ups like Trump.

Trump would love a British military pomp parade especially as his parade is just remembered for a squeaky tank rolling up the street 🤣

Serenster · 23/09/2026 10:38

See - no speculation or psychic powers needed. You could have used google, as you advised me to do upthread.

Yes - wow, that was some visit! I remember watching it on TV and it was so tactfully and sympathetically done, with the Queen bowing her head and acknowledging past tragedies. Symbolism is important to people - don't ever believe it's not!

I remember Jeremy Paxman said that he was sceptical about the monarchy until he saw that visit. He realised that the Queen had achieved something which it would have been difficult for a politician to manage.

Yes, and US Presidents always go there and say they want a united Ireland.

Well, I think most of us do, including the UK government!

How to achieve it, though, without going back to the 70s.

Good lord.

The implication from serenster being that old soft power Charlie will bring us a wonderful deal.

Based on what exactly ?
It doesn’t seem to have worked yet .

Btw - I’ll use my ‘psychic powers’ and again predict that William will not be the head of the commonwealth.
We shall see .

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 23/09/2026 10:49

Trump doesn’t give a shit either way until he can personally make money from it, he just didn’t want journalists asking him tough questions about Iran or Epstein and this let him wax nonsense for the whole visit

I’d say this is news to Unionists .

Please can you set out where on earth I implied that? Beacuse I think you have completely made that up.

Ukisgaslit · 23/09/2026 10:57

You are a Windsor fan and were trying to post the opposite view
But fine - you are not saying that you are sure Charles will be able to use his famed soft power to bring us a great deal.
We agree then

I said “Let’s see how it goes”.

That’s a statement which contains no bias either way. You have clearly interpreted it with your own bias. I can’t help that - the words I used were quite clear. But I stand by what I said - I have made no predictions at all.

@foxylady2 I do think the commonwealth is outdated. It’s more of a leaders Club to meet royalty. They do mostly turn up though. While signing away their mineral deposits to China.

Jamaica - it was not the chairs. It was the old Land Rover and local dc behind metal chain link fences. PR disaster and nothing to do with Russia! They won’t be making that mistake again. Is Catherine actually travelling anywhere? It’s a very slimmed down monarchy right now.

Catherine travelled to north Italy to look at the teaching methods. She didn't have another member of the RF with her as far as I know. She was two or three days there. It was earlier this year. Not Bologna or Ravenna or Milan - One of those other cities up there.

Serenster · 23/09/2026 11:14

“John Healey is due to present the first budget of Andy Burnham’s government on 28 October. Let’s see how it goes”.

Do tell me ukisgaslit - what implication am I communicating to you there?

upinaballoon · 23/09/2026 11:18

foxylady2 · 23/09/2026 08:55

Oh I didn't know that I though it was some centuries old tradition baked in imperial glory rather than a tawdry event to satisfy young Charles desire for a cut priced Coronation.

Charles's desire, not Charles desire.

thats the way the grown ups do it.

Not tantrums, tears and massive convoys, with one large vehicle at the back to carry their various grudges

Not the chain fence again, by any chance?😃
