Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

So you're saying William, advising his brother not to rush into a relationship....was being racist?

I’m pretty sure they would not want to be saying anything of the kind eh?

Libel, etc.

Though throwing brown and American into the mix, you’d be forgiven for thinking that.

I am amazed at the comment to just ignore what your children want in terms of your new partner.

They were adults.

I have no idea who I believe. However, I do find the Mumsnet “the King is wonderful and can have done nothing wrong” line a little hard to take.

Edited

The whole, entirety of MN thinks the King is wonderful and can do no wrong, does it?

Well this member thinks he's probably more than capable of being a complete dick at times. As is Charles Spencer, Camilla, William, Kate, Harry, Meghan and the corgis 🤷.

I have it on good authority that the corgis can be absolute arseholes 😉

Yes, you'd think so! Quite the accusation.

Sorry I thought your point was that Charles had married Camilla “inspite of both boys begging him to not”, and that that in itself was wrong, he should not have gone against his sons’ wishes. You didn’t mention it being to do with the “long , long history of nasty episodes”, ie the reason he shouldn’t have married her was because of what had happened previously. They’re two quite different reasons not to marry and you only mentioned the first I think, in the post I responded to.
Anyway, I thought it an interesting contrast - Harry’s fury at William interfering in his relationship vs Harry’s fury at not being allowed to interfere in his father’s relationship.

Harry is very hypocritical!

Bet it was one of them who nicked poor Haz's extra sausage at breakfast!

Theoretically, but considering Haz is currently 42 and still not capable of always behaving like an adult then he was barely a toddler at 19!

Fair point.

That's an interesting perspective.
I would venture that KC hasn't actually done that much in the trenches parenting ,getting through tough times together on your own.
I don't expect he's put himself through much and harry and William were at boarding schools and had nanny's.

I wonder how many hours being there in the room Charles has notched up compared to a normal family.
Even before Diana's death we know that being ferried backwards and forward was deeply damaging to the boys / embarrassing interviews and books ! Whilst at school !
Then the worst tragedy befell them ..

It's funny how people invent narratives to suit their 'case'.

There is a lot of reputable evidence that Charles was a very hands-on parent, often away from the public eye.

He cares deeply for his sons and supposedly sought professional help for and with H, when H was going off the rails with drugs etc.

The boys were at Eton- just round the corner more or less and would be at home at weekends if they wanted to. Note how he chose Eton and not his old school Gordonstoun which didn't suit him, but Princess Anne did for her two, without any qualms. And they were away for weeks at a time, and she was divorced, so they have a step father. I doubt she consulted them on her choice.

What are you talking about with embarrassing books and being ferried backwards and forwards? What has that got to do with CS and his book?

I just wanted to tell you that on a different thread, I saw you use "PurplePorcupine" and I abot snorted my coffee! 😆

fluffydoglove · 20/09/2026 17:12

Yes I totally believe it ..King Charles is a cold hearted bastard who didn’t even hug his sons when he told them their mother had been killed.. of course he said it it made life so much easier for him

I am a paralegal. But go on tell me what great legal knowledge you have?

Actually, I remember where you said you were a criminal defense lawyer. Not sure if the thread got deleted but I know I saw it and I am betting others did also.

ArcticTrip · 20/09/2026 17:44

Charles was in love with his valet. 😳 I wasn’t it expecting that.

damnatiomemoriae · 20/09/2026 17:52

I shouldn’t imagine Charles was either. Or his valet.

I wonder though why one would state that without any proof.

Ah. Coin.

@ANNotherWriter I am in another time zone. The term flapping in the wind is an American expression which to me means …left vulnerable exposed or abandoned in a tough situation without support or protection.

But as PP and yourself have reminded Diana did make herself vulnerable with refusal of security. I always like to think Diana was going to put on her seat belt but hadn’t gotten to it or was distracted from it by the paparazzi. It certainly has been a cautionary tale…drunk driving and no seat belt with the most terminal outcome.

I do wish Charles and the Queen would have been more protective of Diana as the mother to W and H after the divorce. The US press has always made it seem they were quite cold and indifferent to her post divorce.
