Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

@AnnoyedAsAllHeck

If I were you I’d ask for your post of 15.36 to be deleted .

No thank you. I believe he knew a lot more of what Bashir was aiming to do than he would ever admit. Claiming he was used after the fact, is just, after the fact. Convenient, easy, but not necessarily factual.

And Charles Spencer does nothing without a cost. The "man" who said he would never profit off Diana's death sells copies of the her eulogy. Trustworthy, loyal and honest are not in the top 4000 adjectives I might use to describe Charlie Spencer.

Yep or some version of it. Maybe in reference to the press or fans or someone. I don’t think Spenser is making it up.

I do think they (the royal family) vastly underestimated the public mourning and this comment slides in with that.

Charles was stricken and grieving after viewing her body and after the transport
of Diana’s body. He was shocked by seeing her. I do think he realized his /their culpability in leaving her flapping in the wind. DIana should not have been in Paris is August.

I think this lack of security for Diana resulting in her death could influence his decisions re; Harry and family .

People are forgetting some things.

1 Diana refused security, from all accounts.
2 She courted the press and used them to her own advantage many times.
3 She didn't wear a seat belt.
4 Her driver was drunk
5 The only person in the car to survive was the one wearing a seat belt.

Can you explain the 'flapping in the wind'?

Not come across that before.

The only person responsible for her death was her drunken driver.

Excellent, thank you - have added “IntrinsicallyNavalGazing” to my new collection of usernames, along with ButeNonagenarianMadeMeGasp and LetsNotForgetQueenMary 👏👏
Love that image of KC3 wistfully gazing out at the RN.

But how does he do it intrinsically?

I admit that is a puzzle. But I think it adds to the poetry.

Maybe in the heat of the moment. We ALL say deeply stupid things at times. I don’t think he would have sounded gleeful though like is also claimed.
Whatever happened, let her rest in peace. He’s only making these claims after all this time to make money which is pretty disgusting as well

Amen to that, @PurpleBadgers

Totally agree. The self-righteousness on here is ridiculous. Have some pps never said things they wished they hadn’t?

I know I have.

BBC News showing more of the Laura Kinsberg interview and CS is rowing back slightly - using words like my assumption.

He also uses the clunky phrase I’m on my deceased sister’s boys side. Why not say I’m on my nephews side.

I explained the meaning of the kings statement to a poster who seemed to not understand it. Explaining means you don't simply repeat the words used.

Did you now 🤣🤣

Hmm..interesting. And I bet there'll be more where that came from.

This fits with a quotation I read on here (maybe not this thread) where he says something akin to "I could tell he was feeling/thinking x or y".

This particular scenario I'm allergic to because I have a family member who has a habit of telling you what you think and what you feel. It's infuriating and, in their mind, it then becomes 'fact', rather than supposition or assumption.

I honestly think: give it time and a lot of this revolting man's nasty book will start to unravel.

I have too. But I have never been unfortunate enough to have someone who may already harbour bitterness towards me and/or my family want to tell it to the world 30 years later because they have a book to sell.

Do I think it was said? I really don’t think so but not one of us will ever know apart from the two people involved.

I thankfully do not know anyone awful enough who would ever voice it when there was a chance it would hurt anyone else.

Your posts are very hard to understand. Some full stops might help.

I am not sure how Charles as a father is something you know about personally to make these calls.

We see how he has put himself first with his affair /Camila and he married her inspite of both boys begging him to not

We know how he has treated harry. A hard difficult relationship yes but he makes it worse .

He after all wrote his own books about his parents and also gave TV interview.

That's interesting because I have the same! But it's Charles w I'm getting the controlling vibes off.

Pearwoman · 20/09/2026 16:31

I don’t like or believe either of them.

At the time, Diana was one of the global icons on the world stage. The public were largely sympathetic to the way she had been treated by the RF. Her fame was literally huge and she totally overshadowed everything King Charles did and I don’t think she was planning on ever being quiet or sitting in a corner. I do not think Charles and Camilla would be married and have had the relative peace and quiet and acceptance they currently have if Diana had been around.

I can quite image that when Charles (king) heard she died he was shell shocked and realised depending on how it played out, within a few years she would be forgotten largely and he and Camilla could forge forward. He might have also realised it could go the other way and they could be (Charles and Camilla) the most hated people on the planet with ‘Saint’ Diana always young, always comparable etc

I do believe Charles was told to take a bride and he isn’t a great a lovely person - and I really don’t think he has many redeeming qualities. I think he dated many women and Diana was so young and naive and as Camilla said ‘she’s a timid mouse’ - and I believe she was selected as the brood mare to produce the heir and the spare. And then expected to put up with Charles carrying on his affair that never really stopped with Camilla.

I went through a horrific divorce and a decade on my ex and I are largely amicable and although we try to avoid conversations. I can bear to meet him with my husband and have a cup of tea with him for the sake of my teenager son. However, during our divorce I wished and prayed for him to drop dead - I’m ashamed of that now - but then the bitter court process would have stopped. The money issues would have stopped and I could have continued my life with a memory. I’m sure if he had died and I was told I would have been in shock and might of said ‘the children will forget him soon enough’ or something. I wasn’t in a relationship like Charles and Camilla.

I also think Charles had an affair with Camilla all through and before and after their marriage - they never stopped. I think Diana was besotted with him and she couldn’t turn down a Prince and I’m sure she was told she could not back out. Can you imagine? Her life was over and by the time she wanted out it was too late. She was expected to produce two children and the Nanny raise them and then expected to put up with an affair and just quietly crack on and in turn have her own.

I also believe Charles Spencer is not a nice piece of work and doesn’t know how to respect or treat women and when his sister, Diana asked him for help and a house - he said yes and agreed and then a couple of weeks later said no. Citing security risks to his own family etc she wanted a small property that was cozy and had her heart set on it at a time of deep personal unhappiness. He declined and offered her a more isolated house and they fell out. He also wanted her to pay for it - it wasn’t free. He has cashed in on her death, despite him saying he wouldn’t - reports are that he made £30 million from having her at Althorp Estate and by inviting tourists in - very ironic considering he wouldn’t let her live there due to worries about his own privacy and security. Don’t forget he was the youngest with 3 older sister (don’t get me started on why the girls can’t inherit) but this man has hundreds of millions in his personal wealth portfolio.

This is a case of two not nice men and not nice to women - men throwing stones at each other.

It means it's a natural part of him like breathing or coughing.
He can't help it,it's part of who he is.
Intrinsically naval gazing that is

damnatiomemoriae · 20/09/2026 16:33

I think Harry would be back round his father like a fly round a bride if he offered him a way back into the working royals again.

A hard difficult relationship? Absolutely. It won’t be the first fractious relationship between a father and son and it will certainly not be the last.

But there is no way back after what Harry did.

Up to the point of Spare and OW? I suspect he would have still been the darling boy.

I read an extract from the book where he talks about it being understandable that a man should hate his former wife so much that he would take pleasure in hearing of her death.

I think that says far about his attitude towards his ex wives than it does about anyone else.

Well he was right to marry Camilla. They make an excellent couple and Camilla knows that being Queen is not all about her, but about the people she is meeting and the causes she is highlighting. As for his sons begging him not to marry her, sometimes you have to ignore what your children say as they are not always right and say things in the heat of the moment. Charles did what was right for him and the boys and Camilla got along fine until Harry had his brain fart

It can't work. The RF is a closed institution, where members have to meet and deal with high-level people such as foreign heads of state, diplomats, home politicians and the secret services.

You can't be 'HIHO' with that. Absolute discretion and confidentiality is paramount and H has shown he's a world-class blabbermouth and traitor to his family.

There's no going back on an official level and I'm not sure even on a personal level now because he keeps doubling down on his behaviour.

I think by far the worst thing KC has done to H is endlessly indulging and making excuses for his appalling behaviour. Sadly, lack of normal boundaries has resulted in a 42 year old who is incredibly entitled and seemingly incapable of behaving in a responsible way

That's simply not true.
Most children are very loyal to their mother and maybe William has healed ,maybe Harry is healing but to to do your mum what they did to Diana !

Did anyone read the account by lady Annabel goldsmith re her party ? She said it was known when charles and Camilla were going to an event Diana shouldn't go.
This time Diana accepted the invite and saw the two CCS together.
She spoke to Camila who said ...what do you want everyone is in love with you /your the world's darling and she said " i just want my husband. ". ( Not verbatim ).

So sad and all the comments about how she walked into her wedding /church and saw camilla.

It's very very sad.

Oh God - what a thing to say.

My mum had a saying: You always see your own faults in other people. I think the modern term is 'projecting'.

Ugh.

Has an interviewer asked him this question

"Why have you kept quiet about these things for 30 years only to now publicly accuse a terminally ill man?"

or

"What was your advance for this book?"
