Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

@AnnoyedAsAllHeck some of what you are saying is simply untrue. Do you know it is? Pr are you simply repeating what you have read others incorrectly posting?

Actually, it's all quite true. You may not like it, but you can't change it.

OVienna · 20/09/2026 07:45

@OneLilacHedgehogThere are plenty of people out there able to gaslight others with their version of "but you said this" . I get CS doesnt like PC but he "took notes" - my ass.

OVienna · 20/09/2026 07:48

This book is his years later embellishments of a difficult conversation.

He's now saying he didn't take notes.

No, I don’t believe it for a second.

Im not a particular royalist nor fan of Charles and can believe he’s said/ done many unpleasant things but this doesn’t ring true even slightly.

I agree, the reported words simply don't line up with what we have heard and seen from Charles over the years. I do believe it would have been believed nearer the time but we now have perspective.

MrsLeonFarrell · 20/09/2026 07:52

Cathandkin · 20/09/2026 07:49

He's now saying he didn't take notes.

And Richard Kay is apparently now saying that the reported words were not told to him exactly.

Memory is fickle and fragile.

It's true that you are never free of it, the urge is always there but the goal is to get sober and keep sober. Which is what he has done.
He should have kudos for that.

2025
that is last year!

I would believe Rory Stewart over Spencer any day…we’re talking about a man who sells signed copies of ”the eulogy” for profit at his stately pile here. What a repulsive specimen Soencer is, just ask the estranged kids and the many ex wives.

This is the problem many are having with Charles S, and it is interesting to see people who actually know the King coming out to say what lots are saying, the words reported simply don't sound like something Charles R would say.

Yes, and grief and hurt make it all worse.
Plus the intervening years, and bad feelings.

I didn't watch the interview but having read some of it in the broadsheets today I am convinced Spencer is not quite sane.

Comparing the treatment of Harry and M to Diana?
Really?

How low can he go?

H&M (and D) both court(ed) the press when it suited them. That's a common factor. Everyone notices the disparity with H&M over 'we want privacy' but a day later there are Instagram pics of them online.

I find CS despicable. The King is unwell- his cancer is still being treated- and anyone who kicks a man when he is down shows his true colours.

Exactly, zero credibility.

Also, I agree with a pp no alkie is a 'former alcoholic'. Even if he resisted his compulsions and stopped drinking in 2025 he is and always will be an alcoholic and they are always such unreliable sources.

I so hope Kuenssberg challenges his absolutely horrendous, shit stirring claims but the clips suggest otherwise. She seems to have taken on an Oprah style stance of 'oh really poor you!' 🙄.

Yes, I agree, I think it's all got too much now.

ANNotherWriter · 20/09/2026 08:27

I think the best thing to happen is for the media to ignore him.
All the 'press' makes him think he has some credibility.

And to use the word 'cancer' when we all are aware of the KIng's health and Catherine's- has the man no decency?

What does he want? Charles won't abdicate. But the stress certainly won't help his health. Is that what CS wants- to bring him down that way?
Abhorrent.

As an aside he looks very old for someone 62- he could be 10 or 15 years older. Drink ages people.

Good points, it's all got too much now. The claim that the Sussexes have been treated like Diana?
It's getting worse.

He looks awful, sounds awful and is just acting like a hissing psycho with a massive axe to grind.

Diana would be turning in her grave with how much this will be distressing William. It's like Harry and Spencer are showcasing the dearanged Spencer gene for the whole world to laugh at.

Why doesn't someone tell them both no one, other than equally damaged people, believe them and it's time to move on.

I really think Spencer will be hoping for a Netflix show next.

Agree!

I don't know why the BBC gave him an interview at all.

No one cares or wants to know his opinion.

It does make us wonder if they are anti- Royal.

It sounds like he’s gone down a rabbit hole. Like the pp I have no idea why he needs to be interviewed and given air time.

I suppose because he's a well spoken aristocrat. He's appears to be eloquent and well informed. The BBC, and many posters on here, seem to be impressed with that.
Spencer is a very damaged, abused and abusive man; I'm glad that he's getting support and treatment for his many problems and that he can deal with his horrendous school experiences.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · 20/09/2026 09:11

I didn’t like Charles Spencer before the book, and I like him even less now,

His personality seems quite similar to Harry’s, and I’d trust his claims and ‘his truth’ as much as Harry’s too

Yes, I'm beginning to realise how similar they are.

pilates · 20/09/2026 09:18

The more I hear from him the more I think he has embellished the truth. The alcohol over the many years has clearly fuddled his brain. He is a weak man with a weak moral compass. H&M stayed with him over the summer. Are you telling me this wasn’t discussed? It smacks of a conspiracy which will cause further rifts with KC, William & Catherine.

I think as the dust settles his writings will be viewed with a bit more scepticism. That’s not to say there is NO truth in them - but I think his judgement in writing this book, his grudge-bearing, vengeful character and frankly, his hypocrisy, considering his own shocking record as a nasty husband will make people view it differently.

I mean - Charles may have said things he would later regret but Spencer himself is a shit of the first order!

Helenbelena · 20/09/2026 09:21

There seem to be a lot of Royalists on this thread trying so hard to defend King Charles!

Yes, I think that's a fair assessment!
